Hello Everyone and Welcome to My #featheredfriends Post Today I'm Presenting Part 2 of the Wood Duck Post

#featheredfriends brought to you by
@melinda010100

The fallowing images are the second part to last Tuesdays post The Wood Duck Family.
That post centered mostly on the ducklings and their parents.
In this post I focused( doe.. pun) on the adult ducks in the pond.

IMG_3775 (2).jpg

The Wood Ducks are really colorful birds and a treat to image.
I need to return here soon and try to get some more shots of my bright friends here.

IMG_3773 (2).jpg

IMG_3778 (2).jpg

Here is a shot for one of the two mated pairs in the pond.
I was hoping one of the females would give me a wing flap so I could show you the brilliant iridescent bands of feathers hidden when folded but no joy this time.

IMG_3814 (2).jpg

Now for some reason this younger bachelor male got on the bad side of the grand poo ba of the pond and the harassment begins.

IMG_3815 (2).jpg

Beep Beep.
I wanted to crop into these action shots but I didn't limit the ISO and it was going up to 1300 in these shots and I got a fair amount of noise in these shots that was really noticeable on an aggressive crop in.

IMG_3800 (2).jpg

This little guy is fast, way faster than the white duck.
He looks like a little jet boat out in the pond complete with two little jetovators in back.

IMG_3805 (2).jpg

The white duck and it's partner were slower but persistent and they chased this Wood Duck back and forth across the pond many many times but none of the others though, just this one O.o

IMG_3816 (2).jpg

IMG_3806 (2).jpg

IMG_3807 (2).jpg

They were still chasing this guy around when I passed by an hour later on the way out.

IMG_3845.jpg

There is an island out in the pond but only the mated Wood Ducks(and the turtles =p) use it. The bachelor males roost in the limbs of that Maple tree over the water.

IMG_3876 (2).jpg

IMG_3872 (2).jpg

IMG_3874 (2).jpg

IMG_3880 (2).jpg

There were 5 ducks up in the tree and 3 on the water that I can see.
So a total of 10 males and only 2 females... just the situation to create a few ruffled feathers <,<

IMG_3758 (2).jpg

Some close ups of one of the males in the mated pair without ducklings yet

IMG_3759 (2).jpg

IMG_3760 (2).jpg

He needs to get cracking, those eggs aren't going to fertilize themselves =P

IMG_3756 (2).jpg

Lastly are some wider angle shots of the pair.

IMG_3757 (2).jpg

IMG_3885 (2).jpg

That's it for today folks. I hope you all enjoyed the images.
I'm sure I'll visit the Wood Ducks again soon so you'll probably be seeing more of then before too long.

They hardly look real. They are so beautiful and your photos are wonderful. The shots of the roosting males are spectacular.

Hi @melinda010100 Thanks for stopping in and thank you for the support you give everyone each day, it's truly a pleasure to interact with you and the rest of the #featheredfriends community.

I'm putting around on #ecency atm... trying to figure out how to make it stop dinging and giving me a desk top notification popup every time I get an upvote . Gave me a bit of a start when it did that a bunch of times in a row lol.

Also your right the ducks almost look like they are painted in a hyper real style.

Notifications is in settings. One Ecency secret... Always look behind the little drop down arrows.!
And please ask anytime you can't make something work the way that you want. I'm always happy to help find the answers. 😊

Yeah I found it, but not before two posts got picked up and voted on by two different curation teams lol
Started to sound like a slot machine jackpot for a few minutes there lol.
The only thing I don't really see here is the ability to store post templates that can be loaded to a draft post but other than that no issues really yet the UI is user friendly just need to get used to it.
I've only been on it a few hours total si I haven't got used to where everything is yet.

I use the Ecency phone app for most everything and I have never used the peakd template thing. I just go back and use a prior draft. And occasionally I'll save something, like signatures,
in 'snippets'
The POINTS you collect will be what the airdrop will be based on when Ecency releases their token, hopefully later this year.

In Prague, in a large park Stromovka full of trees and ponds, beautiful ducks Aix galericulata have also been wandering lately. Although it is an introduced species, unlike Chinese hornets, Spanish snails and similar pests, it does no harm.
Look to my post https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/70768191

These are gorgeous! The ducks and the photos... :)
As melinda said, they hardly look real - I've only seen these up close (in a zoo) once, and am reminded how prettily "painted" they are...

Thank you @ackhoo very nice of you to say so.
Also thank you for the curation @qurator always appreciate the extra exposure it bring to the post =)

I'll have to ask if if the Zoo here introduced them here after the clean out and refill last year. I seem to remember seeing Wood Ducks there but I don't see any bands on these birds and the Zoo would have done so ( banded them) if they put them there. Waiting for the Mallards to show up, usually get a lot of those at the pond.

Thanks for stopping by @ackhoo :)

These are the most colorful-looking ducks I have ever seen. I see them, but, your edits make them unreal. (in a good way) The pictures are spectacular and the roosting males? Superb. I don't think I have ever seen Wood Ducks roost. Only some duck in Florida that they consider a pest.

Really? A pest? But, yes.

I cannot believe the speed on him, motoring across the pond like that. I have to wonder what he did to deserve that. Great work and I look forward to seeing more!

Thanks so much and have a great night!

Wow these are amazing shots. My wood ducks around here are so skittish that I can only get really distant shots of them.

Hello @sketch.and.jam the ducks here at the pond are fairly used to people and getting food from them, so they will get fairly close if they are being fed.
If I were trying to get shots of truly wild wood ducks I'd have to use a blind more than likely.

Thanks for drooping by @sketch.and.jam good to see you still active at the Hive.
