The Weekly Elf - December 9. 2022 Edition

Holiday cheer

The second week of December, everyone starts to feel the Christmas cheer around them. People are working hard now so that they can enjoy a nice holiday with their loved ones at the end of the month. At least, usually the Christmas days, while some are lucky to have a week or even two weeks off. For those that love Christmas and everything around it, this month is truly "the most wonderful time of the year". Personally, I mostly enjoy the Christmas decorations and gift part of the season while we enjoy some extra special food to treat ourselves during the Christmas days. The street decoration sure makes it a lot more fun walking outside in the weeks towards Christmas.

Santa's helpers have taken over the CineTV team!

Let me tell you a bit about the CineTV team, we have a nice group of people working on the project, sometimes we're very visible and sometimes we aren't. You probably couldn't guess all the team members even if you tried because they are also very busy with their own life. But we also have a small core team which you will find in our team discord chatting almost daily. Of course, everyone has days that they are too busy to check in there or maybe because they're on a holiday, but overall you will find a bunch of dedicated people that keeps an eye on news that's been shared in there.

Sometimes strange happened a few days ago! We were suddenly all replaced by Santa's helpers! Without any notice, team members were replaced by (mostly) Elves, one by one. I guess Santa (@raymondspeaks?) thought we needed some extra hands during this busy period of the year. But the question is, was it really Raymond changing these names? I decided to investigate this mystery myself.

Investigation time

It was a Wednesday evening where a few team members were discussing the weekly contest when all of the sudden "Buddy the Elf" made a comment to "Busy Elf":

Mind you, at this moment, "Busy (not Busty!) Elf" still had no clue what he meant because she was only scrolling through the chat quickly. Not long after, Papa was accused of the name change.

You may wonder are you speaking about Santa when you say papa? Not quite, when our team refers to papa, we are talking about @papacrusher, who is now named "Santa Crusher". It's not that weird that Raymond was the one accused because until this very day, he is one of the few team members still visible under his own nickname while the rest has been replaced by Elves or other Christmassy figures.

The plot thickens

The worst thing is, none of us was given any notice about these shenanigans, which made us scratch our heads. Especially when at some point, we were gifted with some "Very good boys" in masks, while I'm pretty sure before we had a bunch of Stick Up Boys, always up for something naughty!

Maybe they're now trying to win over Santa to earn some last-minute bonus points to receive a huge gift by Santa this year? Or were these so called "Good boys" responsible for the team replacement?
It sure looked suspicious if you ask me!

Then a baby Elf appeared:

and "She's an angry Elf" (who you might recognize as she's a famous Hiver with her own NFT!), she's very likeable by most, but within our team there's an ongoing insider joke that she's so mean and has a reputation to uphold! Hence the "She's an angry Elf" name!

We also have Dasher, Jingle Bells, Not an Elf and most fitting replacement of them all: Christmas Slippers! But who was responsible for this mess? We know Ray is not around that much, there are people with a lot more time for the team chatter every day, and it's probably @papacrusher who's responsible for this holiday cheer in the chat, as it all started with this comment:

Not much later, his name was changed into "Santa Crusher" and the madness started. Do I need to say more? It's all good though, we have embraced our new names as soon as we discovered that we weren't truly replaced by Santa's helpers after all. This is the kind of thing making our team chat a lot of fun, and good for the team spirit, I'd say.
