Final processing // Separating the kernels from the cobs

Hello hivans, good morning from here. I said on my last post that I would post the final processing of the maize crops we harvested on Sunday but my network carrier had so issues and it made me unable to post. The network kept going and coming and my ecency app kept going off which was so sad. While I was almost done typing on Monday, my ecency app went blank when the network issues started again and I was so pained because I was almost done with it. Unfortunately, I couldn't retrieve the data in the draft box.

The separation here don't take much time as the one we did first. My boss at work rented a separating machine and an operator to make our work easier and we got few labourers too, about 6 of them.

While the operator is pouring the crops into his machine, the labourers take the kernels from the output into the bags available which we were holding and filling. It gave me an opportunity to learn how to seal a maize bag while processing and it was a great deal because I wouldn't have learnt what I know now.

It wasnt that easy but was better compared to the first day. We started early that day too to make work easier; Since our journey was about 3hrs, my boss already called the supervisor to get the work started before our arrival. The work was ongoing before we got there and we met them on it.

After all the separations we did, there were so many kernels on the ground which could not be overlooked, we had to start taking the cobs out and pouring the remains into the machine to get more seeds.

After being done with the separation, we got 51 bags of maize and that's a really nice counts because the rain was too much for the maize plants and we are even lucky to get what we got. Some farmers over there were disappointed by what they got on their farms, though we were disappointed on what we got too but ours was better off some people.

We eventually sealed all the bags and took them into a store for preservation against crop eating insects that affect maize. It was a great work we did and a great journey.

I love to see people farming. I so much appreciate farmers.

Farming is one of the most lucrative business ever. The only drawback sometimes is not having a farm land, else one can start with a very little capital and build it up from there. No farm produce is a waste, there's always high demand, even in a deep rural setting. Keep it up, wish you success all the way!

The start always seems hard but if one could start, it's such a good business. Thanks for stopping by
