But the most interesting thing is how a new character that would embody evil during this phase of the story appears, his name is Marik Ishtar, a man who belongs to the family of the Pharaoh's tomb keeper, a tradition that takes approximately 5000 years, and tries to pass the secret of the Pharaoh's power to the descendants of that family until the Pharaoh returns.

At this point you can see part of the plot and character development, can you imagine belonging to a family that has to live in the shadows away from everyone for keeping an important secret? It seems a noble mission, but that implies not existing for the outside world, not having freedom or a life of his own, and that was precisely what this character refused to do, even from his childhood, it all started once he saw the outside world with his sister, When he returned that night his father was punishing his caretaker for having let him out, Orion, a character with much relevance these seasons, which caused his evil side, the darkness that lived in his heart to wake up and with the help of the scepter of the millennium sent his own father to the kingdom of shadows.

Unlike other anime, here there are no fist battles, nor weapon battles, at least not to decide things, here everything is decided through the duel of monsters, which in this part of the story is revealed in a deeper way that had an origin in ancient Egypt with real monsters, which were invoked by powerful sorcerers who put their souls at stake in each duel. This is the essence of the shadow game, the winner takes all and the loser loses more than a duel, their soul is trapped in the realm of shadows forever or until they are released before their complete disappearance in said realm.

Secrets and mysteries are part of this series, and the author has managed to hide them and show them very well as the story progresses. By this time there is a woman who makes her appearance, her name is Ishizu Ishtar, Marik's sister and the possessor of the millennium necklace, a tool that allows her to know the events that will occur in the future, so based on that this character acts within the plot.

The first important intervention is when he meets with Seto Kaiba under the pretext of an archaeological convention, his main intention at that moment is to reveal to Kaiba his connection with the old Egypt, making him see that besides being the rival of the Pharaoh in those duels of 5000 years ago, the events of the past are about to repeat themselves and his participation would be crucial in this era. In addition to that, Ishizu seduces Kaiba to hold a dueling tournament, where the rest of the events would take place.

After the meeting with Seto, Yugi, moved by the spirit of the puzzle in search of his origin, goes to the museum, an event that was predestined to happen, where Ishizu waits for him and greets him as Pharaoh. And indeed so it is, it turns out that the spirit of the puzzle or rather Yami, is the Pharaoh of 5000 years ago, something that was already seen coming but after this meeting is confirmed. What remains a mystery is that he now dwells in the rooms of the millennium puzzle and his memory has been erased by the same in the past, so recovering his memories is one of its main purposes, but added to that must save the world from evil as he did in the past, and for that he must participate in the tournament organized by Kaiba.

The 3 Egyptian gods

Another of the things that are extremely important in this season and I can not obviate for anything in the world, are the three most powerful cards of the duel of monsters, the three Egyptian gods, important pieces in the battles to come but also in the mystery of the power of the pharaoh. Two of them are in Marik's possession and the other one is given to Kaiba in his meeting with Ishizu, in fact these three cards were the reason that led him to organize the tournament, his thirst for power.

The three cards have a particularity, they are very difficult to defeat because they have hidden powers and more than one special ability, also one of them can only be used by people who have connection with the past, if someone wrongly uses them will suffer terrible consequences, but the most impressive of all is that they have enormous powers on the one hand, but fatal weaknesses on the other, even so defeating them requires great skill.

The three cards in question are Slifer the Sky Dragon, Obelisk the Tormentor, and the Winged Dragon of Ra. Each one is different from the others, with its own particular powers and abilities, but they can also destroy each other, all depending on the abilities of their possessor. These three cards are coveted objects, Kaiba seeks them to become the strongest duelist of all, Marik to become a pharaoh and Yami to save the world and discover how to release his power, a secret that his enemy knows for sure.

Final Thoughts

I have not yet finished watching season 4 and 5 to conclude which of all is better, but from my point of view the leap in quality that gives the series from season 1 to 2 and 3 is huge, the author knew how to improve the story in all aspects taking care of every detail and developing the characters very well. Both the main characters that I have named in this post and Yugi's friends, who also have a lot of participation in the plot, have evolved a lot since their beginnings. At least Joey becomes an excellent duelist and May also gets it, while Tea and Tristan take their first steps in dueling monsters although it is not their main vocation. On the other hand, the fights are spectacular, the strategies used in each battle are very good, especially in those where the holders of the Egyptian cards face each other, there we can notice a high strategic level, tension and suspense. Reason for which makes me think that the author and his creative team must be people versed in the game of chess, because the moves made during the duels are extremely good.

Finally and to conclude, values are still important and taken very much into account, not everything is power and destruction, despite all the evil and greed displayed, friendship, love and forgiveness are present as a form of victory over evil, something that will always prevail, even in our real lives.

Yugioh: Juego de las sombras y una rivalidad de hace 5000 años / Temporada 2 y 3

Luego de la derrota de Pegasus a mano de Yugi en el reino de los duelistas, comienzan una serie de eventos importantes en la serie que dan cabida a las dos siguientes temporadas, Pegasus pierde el ojo del milenio a manos del espíritu que habita en la sortija del milenio de Bakura, y luego de eso hace su aparición una vez más Shadi, quien busca al culpable de este robo. Pero lo más interesante es como hace su aparición un nuevo personaje que encarnaría el mal durante esta fase de la historia, su nombre es Marik Ishtar, un hombre que pertenece a la familia del cuida tumbas del faraón, una tradición que lleva aproximadamente 5000 años, y trata de pasar el secreto del poder del faraón a los descendientes de dicha familia hasta que el faraón retorne.

En este punto se puede ver parte de la trama y el desarrollo del personaje, ¿te imaginas pertenecer a una familia que tiene que vivir en las sombras alejado de todo el mundo por guardar un secreto importante? Parece una noble misión, pero eso implica no existir para el mundo externo, no tener libertad ni una vida propia, y eso fue precisamente lo que este personaje se rehusó a hacer, incluso desde su infancia, todo comenzó una vez vio el mundo exterior con su hermana, al regresar esa noche su padre estaba castigando a su cuidador por haberlo dejado salir, Orión, un personaje con mucha relevancia estas temporadas, lo que causo en el que su parte maligna, la oscuridad que habitaba en su corazón despertara y con la ayuda del cetro del milenio enviara a su propio padre al reino de las sombras.

A partir de ese entonces su vida cambio, salió de su escondite y comenzó a idear un plan para escapar de su destino como cuida tumbas, y aunque su parte maligna era refrenada por la presencia de Orión, todos los planes de esta personaje fueron malvados, pues apoderarse del poder del Faraón y reinar como tal era su nuevo norte, y con los poderes del Cetro del milenio la tarea se podía realizar, sin embargo una serie de requisitos tenían que cumplirse, y es una de las cosas que más me llama la atención en toda la serie. A diferencia de otros anime, aquí no hay batallas de puños, ni de armas, a menos no para decidir cosas, aquí todo se decide a traves del duelo de monstruos, el cual en esta parte de la historia se revela de una forma más profunda que tenía un origen en el antiguo Egipto con monstruos reales, los cuales eran invocados por poderosos hechiceros que ponían en juego sus almas en cada duelo. Esta es la esencia del juego de las sombras, el ganador se lleva todo y el perdedor pierde más que un duelo, su alma queda atrapada en el reino de las sombras para siempre o hasta que sean liberados antes de su completa desaparición en dicho reino.

Identidades reveladas

Los secretos y misterios son parte de esta serie, y el autor ha sabido esconderlos e irlos mostrando muy bien a medida que transcurre la historia. Para este entonces hay una mujer que hace su aparición, su nombre es Ishizu Ishtar, la hermana de Marik y la poseedora del collar del milenio, una herramienta que le permite saber los eventos que ocurrirán en el futuro, por lo que en base a eso este personaje actúa dentro de la trama

La primera intervención importante la vemos cuando se reúne con Seto Kaiba bajo el pretexto de una convención arqueológica, su intención principal en ese momento es revelar a Kaiba su conexión con el viejo Egipto, haciéndole ver que además de ser el rival del Faraón en aquellos duelos de hace 5000 años, los eventos del pasado estan por repetirse y su participación seria crucial en esta era. Además de eso, Ishizu seduce a Kaiba para que este haga un torneo de duelos, lugar donde se desarrollaría el resto de los eventos.

Posterior a la reunión con Seto, Yugi movido por el espíritu del rompecabezas en busca de su origen va al museo, un evento que estaba predestinado a que ocurriese, donde Ishizu lo espera y lo saluda como Faraón. Y en efecto asi es, resulta que el espíritu del rompecabezas o mejor dicho Yami, es el Faraón de hace 5000 años, algo que ya se veía venir pero que tras esta reunión es confirmado. Lo que sigue siendo un misterio es que ahora habita en las recamaras del rompecabezas del milenio y su memoria ha sido borrada por el mismo en el pasado, por lo que recuperar sus recuerdos es uno de sus propósitos principales, pero sumado a eso deberá salvar al mundo del mal como lo hizo en el pasado, y para eso debe participar en el torneo que organizara Kaiba.

Los 3 dioses egipcios

Otra de las cosas que son sumamente importantes en esta temporada y no puedo obviar por nada del mundo, son las tres cartas más poderosas del duelo de monstruos, los tres dioses egipcios, piezas importantes en las batallas por venir pero también en el misterio del poder del faraón. Dos de ellas estan en poder de Marik y la otra es otorgada a Kaiba en su reunión con Ishizu, de hecho estas tres cartas fueron el motivo que lo llevo a organizar el torneo, su sed de poder.

Las tres cartas tienen una particularidad, son muy difíciles de vencer ya que tienen poderes ocultos y más de una habilidad especial, además una de ellas solo puede ser usada por personas que tengan conexión con el pasado, si alguien equivocado las usa sufrirá terribles consecuencias, pero lo más impresionante de todo es que tienen poderes descomunales por un lado, pero debilidades fatales por otro, aun asi derrotarlas requiere de una gran habilidad.

Las tres cartas en cuestión son Slifer el Dragón del cielo, Obelisco el atormentador, y el Dragón alado de Ra. Cada una es diferente de las otras, con sus poderes y habilidades particulares, pero a su vez pueden destruirse entre sí, todo depende de las habilidades de su poseedor. Estas tres cartas son objeto codiciado, Kaiba las busca para convertirse en el duelista más fuerte de todos, Marik para convertirse en faraón y Yami para salvar al mundo y descubrir como liberar su poder, un secreto que su enemigo sabe con toda seguridad.

Pensamientos finales

Aun no termino de ver la temporada 4 y 5 para concluir cuál de todas es mejor, pero desde mi punto de vista el salto de calidad que da la serie desde la temporada 1 hasta la 2 y 3 es descomunal, el autor supo mejorar la historia en todos los aspectos cuidando cada detalle y desarrollando muy bien a los personajes. Tanto los principales que he nombrado en este post como los amigos de Yugi quienes también tienen mucha participación en la trama, han evolucionado mucho desde sus inicios. Por lo menos Joey se convierte en un excelente duelista y May también lo consigue, mientras que Tea y Tristán dan sus primeros pasos en el duelo de monstruos aunque no es su principal vocación. Por otro lado, los combates son espectaculares, las estrategias utilizadas en cada batalla son muy buenas, sobre todo en aquellas donde se enfrentan entre sí poseedores de las cartas egipcias, allí podremos notar un alto nivel estratégico, de tensión y de suspenso. Razón por la cual me hace pensar que el autor tanto su equipo creativo deben ser personas versadas en el juego de ajedrez, pues las jugadas realizadas durante los duelos son extremadamente buenas.

Por último y para concluir, los valores siguen siendo importantes y tomados muy en cuenta, no todo es poder y destrucción, a pesar de toda la maldad y codicia desplegada, la amistad, el amor y el perdón se hacen presentes como una forma de victoria sobre el mal, algo que siempre prevalecerá, incluso en nuestras vidas reales.
