The three jolly friends
They all have the dream of having a bright future even when there seems to be no hope for them because of how life is treating them or should I say the kind of life they chose to live. Mark, James and John were childhood friend living in the same suburb. They have big dreams but they never know how to achieve it. The three of them were rusticated from school one after the other as if the same course is following them from their lineage. Instead of doing better thing with their life, they make a living by picking pockets, and burgling houses during the day and night. The three friends seems to be doing well in their business. They eat good food, go out with different ladies and gamble big time, all from the dosh they make from their dirty business. But they had a problem. They go broke a few week after each operation because of their lavish spending habit. They needed to make more money and what came to their mind was to upgrade and step up their game
One day, Mark came home with a box. Inside it was a snake. He dropped the box open and commanded the snake out. James and John watched the snake glide through the hole in the box and proceeded towards him opening his jaws. They shifted back and watched him as he stroked the snake with his hand and the snake quivered his body as he accept the caress without trying to harm him. That answering tremour from his caress threw them into an inexpressible confusion. “This is the power I was telling you, he muttered under his breath as if he never wanted them to hear him”. After displaying his powers, he called them in to have some words
I'm sure what I'm about to tell you will perhaps be greeted with skeptical smile, but the truth is it’s a confirmed upgrading”. “We are going to start rubbing banks with ease and we are engaging in our first operation in a week time”. They (James and John) looked at one another without saying a word but the expression on their faces speaks their mind. Mark knew they were as anxious as he is but they took the pain to conceal the fact. Their anxiousness is double edged. They were excited and at the same time worried. Having no experience and the orientation needed to rub a bank made them think of impossibility, and the huge amount that one operation would bring made them foresee a long term dream about coming true
On that fateful day of operation, they revisited the plan they mapped out and stepped out on the great mission. They arrived at the bank at the exact time, pulled the trigger and do away with 3 bags of money, each containing more than $200,000. They proceeds to the sea as planned to take a boat to a hotel on an Island. Mark beforehand told them it would be a safe operation having inquired from the snake before they embarked on the journey and it was really an easy one for them. “Mark was right” said James. “We didn’t encounter any difficulty whatsoever”. “This is the best job one can have on earth”. “I can’t believe we are individually $200,000 richer. Hahahahahhahaa. He laughed as he hit the bag he carried on his bag on the way to the sea
When they arrived at the shore, James reacted because he was afraid at the sight of the endless water. “I cannot enter the sea”. “Look at the water as it thunders against the shore”. “In fact, I can't seize viewing the violence of the wave dashing against the rocks”. “The sea is too rough”. “I wonder how the fishermen are not afraid to stay in that fragile boat”. "I wouldn't like to journey by sea". As he stood ranting, they bundled him and threw him in the boat
Lucky, comes from a very poor family. He’s a focused young lad working as an attendant at the hotel where the three friends lodge. He works hard to take care of his aged parent and also managed to send himself to school from the little salary he earns from his job. Because he wouldn’t connive with the senior staff to embezzle the hotel fund, they despise him with chronic hatred. As a 24 hours worker in the hotel, he was given a small room where he put his belongings and lay his head when work is less on him. He only gets to visit his parents once in a month
The three friends arrived at the hotel safely with no single trace from the security agents, but at their arrival, the police van landed. They quickly made it to their hotel room where they watched what was going on through the window. Mark suggested that they inquire from one of the hotel attendant what was going on. Lucky explained to them a murder that happened in one of the hotel room and it was obvious that was the reason for the police’s appearance
He died from exsanguination”. Said one of the agent. When he was asked how he figured it out, he explained that blood coagulates after death and livor mortis is discovered within a few hours which present itself like bruising, but in the case of the corpse, there was nothing like that, which implies that whoever killed him drained his blood. The police officers took all the evidence they gathered from the scene and took the corpse away in an ambulance
Their departure was a sign of relief. James has nearly wet his trousers from the fear of being caught. After settling down, they ordered for meal and plenty of wine which Lucky served them in their room. Mark and John detest Lucky for no reason. That’s prejudice, James reacted as both of them give the poor boy an inimical stare. To make the celebration of their success more significant, James went to the bar to get the best and the most expensive wine
The hotel staffs had already planned against Lucky and the manager was waiting to hand him a sack letter. When he got to the manager’s office, he was shocked at what he saw in the letter. “The management of this organization give you 30 minutes to pack your belongings and leave the Island”, the manager happily addressed Lucky. “Please sir, I have nothing to fall back to. I’m the only one catering for my family and my education will be at risk if I can’t afford to pay my school fees. Please help me sir. I’m innocent”, Lucky cried as he pleaded to the manager for mercy
The three friends had pieces a whole chicken in less than an hour. They were really starving. James relaxed on the couch with a glass of wine he poured from the special and expensive wine he bought for a special celebration waiting for Mark and John to pour theirs so that they could have a toast. Suddenly, Mark grabbed his neck from behind exactly as predators go for a jugular and John held his legs. The glass of wine slipped and broke as he struggled for his life. In less than a minute, he was choked to death. Mark and John planned to kill him and take his share when he went down to get the wine and now, the deed has been done according to their plan. Only then were they ready for the special celebration with the special wine. In excitement, they poured the wine and had a toast. Mark poured some on James body laughing in jest of his dead body
Almost all the staff of hotel de Cruz were happy to see Lucky leave. They whispered to themselves as he walked to his room to pack his belongings. Lucky sat at the edge of his bed and coursed the day he was born. “I shouldn’t have been named Lucky because I’m a living proof of the opposite”. He wept bitterly. Before his departure, he went to the hotel room where he served to collect his wrist watch he forgot on the table while attending to the three friends and meet the greatest surprise of his life. Mark and John were dead too, and the bags containing all the cash were widely open. He was totally confused on what to do. He rushed out to call the manager. On his way, another thought flashed through his mind. What if I’m accused of killing them and convicted innocently? He quickly returned to the room, packed 90% of the money in his bag leaving the rest in the three bags and left the hotel through the front door visible to everyone
After a few hours, the bodies were found by one hotel attendant. She raised an alarm and 911 was called to see into the matter. After examining the bodies they discovered that one was strangled to death and two were poisoned. James poisoned the special wine he collected for the special celebration. He planned to kill Mark and John so that he could have the whole money to himself. None of them had the money at last and the bright future they dreamt of became 6 feet at last. They were all greedy and wicked. But sometimes, some people need to be unfortunate for another person to break through. It was obvious that the three friends killed themselves because of money, so no one suspected Lucky. He got back to his family, lively happily in wealth and revamped his name to LUCKY LA CRUZ
