I Will No Longer Vote On Takers

This post is a reaction to a couple of posts - Here For The Community? - Actions Speak Louder Than Words! by hitmeasap and The Leofinance 12K Comment Push by taskmaster4450le to name a few. These posts have mirrored some feelings I have been having as I struggle to find my place.

After making an effort to ramp up my comments, even though I fell short of my April goals, I am noticing a trend... some people never reply. These people only seem to post content, not respond to comments and collect votes... I labeled these content creators TAKERS

Takers
I have noticed several of the creators I had been commenting and voting on for several weeks, had never responded. While it could be my comments suck or they just didn't respond to me so I decided to check it out. NOPE - they didnt seem to respond to comments all. In my mind, this is not creating a better community, or acting in a way that fosters growth. If we have new users join, see posts with nice up votes, comments and no replies... what example is that setting.

Takers are not new - they around on every platform, and sometimes they are on several platforms with the same content. While I won't wade into multi chain posting - personally if you interact on the chain with your post, I find value in the conversations. Takers take value, they take away engagement, they take away community.

GIVERS
Givers is pretty clear - they give more than they take. I am not talking about post value, I am talking about fostering discussion ideas. These are the creators who responded to comments on the articles. Maybe not everyone, but enough to show they are building community. Some people are crazy with how many comments they can make and reply too, but just making that effort is what creates that community I like in LEO and POB.

I want to support GIVERS not TAKERS....

No Longer Voting on TAKERS

I will no longer vote those creators I know never respond. I may or may not follow, but I will save my time and efforts posting on authors who take the time to read and respond. My vote, all 0.021 LEO will also be reserved for those that help foster growth and discussion in the community.

I have seen enough takers on platforms over the years. I don't see LEO/HIVE as a faucet... this isn't a place to just milk for free returns. If you are going to write something and think its worth sharing, then you better take the time to respond to the reactions you create, or not, your choice.. my vote just wont be coming your way.....

Everyone has your own VP, Ethics and Views on how things should be run, but if you are invested in the long run prospect of these projects long term, are your actions helping drive towards improvement?

Time to go find more people to follow... plenty of GEMS out there posting and creating value.

sincerely,

Hi @cluelessinvestor, thank you for your honesty and sharing. It is definitely a really tricky one. I love creating posts of my own and I also endeavour to comment on other people's content and replies on my content.

In terms of replies, one dApp that I have found incredibly helpful to keep track of all the comments I receive on my content is https://engage.hivechain.app/.

Check out the user guide: https://peakd.com/hive/@hive.engage/stay-connected-with-your-hive-audience-and-catch-attention. Thanks to the team at @hive.engage.

For those out there that find it difficult to reply or comment regularly on your content, visit this dApp, it has helped me to be a lot more engaged and in touch with people that take the time to give my content comments.

Tools can help us to give more! ;-)

This is a pretty interesting tool. I can see it being helpful if you start to get a large number of comments, to help keep track of them and respond when it makes sense to continue the conversation. I am using it now to reply to you - I will give it shot, not sure if I need it yet, I usually get only 0-2 comments on a post so it is pretty easy to manage.

Hi again @cluelessinvestor, trust me I know it can be very frustrating when you put a lot of effort into your posts and the engagement from the platform is low. I have been there and still some of posts are like that.

Give it time, you will find your audience, you will find your loyal followers. One of your posts caught my eye.

Keep doing what you are doing, keep writing authentic pieces, with feeling that offer value to an audience and they will come.

Keep rocking on and you will become a rockstar in the community. 😎

You're right, takers don't contribute to the growth of the platform, i wonder why a user will make a post and not check on the comments made about the article published. No one will hold you guilty if you decide on giving out your vote to only those who are givers to the community, in some ways they foster growth and desire the growth of the platform. Engagement is key to growth.

I think some users have managed to get on enough auto voting trails that it makes sense to keep publishing. I guess I can see why they might if every post they make, gives them a few more HIVE even when they don't respond.

For me, the only reason to post is it share something, in the hopes of getting a reaction and discussion. I have spend a long time on some posts just reading the comment sections - there is a ton of additional information in there.
