Bitcoin Better than 401K

Hi fellow Lions,

Today I wanted to explore a little bit the idea of Bitcoin as a store of value.

Bitcoin Better than 401K

One of the things that we often hear from the older generation is that we need to set ourselves up with money for retirement income. What does that really mean though?

I'm not trying to fall into the trap of blaming those older than us for things because I feel like we make our own choices and can affect things we want in our lives. One of the big things that we can do is try to establish something that we think is a good idea and investment for our own future.

Previous knowledge, mostly in the past 30 years or so, has focused on doing everything you can when it comes to stocks. The stock market was the golden ticket!!! Or so we were led to believe. In that time, there have been numerous crashes and bubbles that have deflated or popped and it came from greed of people that are in the older generation, that I think are trying to extract as much money as possible from the younger generation. I lost many thousands of dollars in the stock market, money that I could've put to better use had I not invested it, back in 2008 when things went to shit.

I don't blame people like my dad, or most other of the average working class for any of this. It's the people who are insanely rich and trying to extract and bend everything to their will that I think are the crux of the issue. We can certainly see this being the case for all kinds of foolish things when it comes to stocks. Companies are trying to bend the regulatory will, known as regulatory capture, in order to force retirement funds and other capital managers to invest in "green" technologies and other farces.

I have some assets in this legacy system but one of the things that I think is going to be important is the ability to invest alternatively into different things that I think will be much stronger for our financial future. Bitcoin is definitely one of those things! Some might say that investing in Bitcoin is a bad idea when the markets have been down and trading sideways for a while but I think it's more of a time to get in than other times for sure. There is more volatility with Bitcoin in the short term but one thing that can't happen with Bitcoin is companies can't artificially buy back their stock to drive it up, Bitcoin can't (theoretically) be shut down if a government entity doesn't like the freedom it's giving people and it's a better store of value going into the future than the vast majority of stocks are.

What I like the most about Bitcoin and some of the other cryptocurrencies though is they are decentralized much more than stocks are. There is no central issuing authority other than the network itself and the miners trying to validate the blocks. The miners and network are expanded across the entire globe and it's given people opportunities to get out of the debt-slavery cycle that they otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to.

With the evolving landscape of this year and beyond, I know there are going to be a lot of things that are messed up by powers-that-shouldn't-be being bored and wanting to mess with people but one of the things that they thankfully cannot control is the vast network that is Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

I've been reading a lot about all kinds of other cryptocurrencies and I admire peoples vision and drive to create solutions to what they think are some of the worlds problems, it's definitely admirable. I know I'll be missing a lot of gains and opportunities but one of the things that I have been enjoying is just focusing my attention and efforts on regular old Bitcoin. I don't need all kinds of other transactions doing sketchy things looking to evade all this stuff or prevent a rug pull. I am more comfortable spending my time and effort on something as simple(complicated) as Bitcoin is. One can only have so many things going on in their lives before they have a mental breakdown.

I'm thankful that I've had the ability to invest some decent money over time into Bitcoin and be in a much better position than some who haven't been able to do much with the coin. It will definitely be one of my preferred investments over time and one that I am going to gladly admit I diverted away from the stock market and conventional wisdom that told me to invest it there!

YeH for sure. I want to get more bitcoin for sure but I'm a lot better off than a good amount of people I think! With it trading sideways and down it's a little hard to see some futures in it but I believe in the project and its future. With as many countries and people getting into it, I don't think it can be a rug pull at this point but I could be wrong!

I know it will at some point for sure! Will be interesting the “bitcoin” stocks they try to make that are meaningless since they aren’t the actual coin.
