Daily Posting Anniversary: What I've Learned

https://peakd.com/hive-173115/@cmplxty/throwback-skating-pics

That was the post that started me off my daily posting journey. I had attempted it a few times prior to that but failed. I think the reason I failed was a few but one of the important ones is that I didn't have my posts scheduled the way I do now!

I know some might be expecting profound knowledge that I have founded upon but I think what I've learned is modest but important for me! I'll be focusing on two of the most important parts of what I've learned, commitment and consistency.

Commitment

One of the things that I've gotten better at is trying to make a commitment to certain things. I have obvious commitments to common things such as work, my wife and other things but I don't have a lot of commitment to other things that I used to such as skateboarding and doing fun things.

I enjoy Hive and posting, interacting and spending time on here but what I didn't have a commitment to was posting daily until I decided one day to try and give it a commitment! I had been trying to get a week straight streak going for a while back when I officially started this but failed for one reason or another. What I made important for me was to schedule at least one or two posts ahead of time!

The post scheduling is what really allowed me to take off with posting daily. I have certainly had times where I didn't meet my post scheduling commitment but I did manage to scrape through and get a post scheduled daily for the last 365 days! I would like to think that a very low percentage of those posts, hopefully in the single digits, one would consider a "shit-post"

Consistency

The other thing that I had to try to focus on is to get to some level of consistency. My consistency is still improving but one of the things that I really learned from this all is to try and make sure that I'm consistent in a few things. One of the definite things that I'm improving upon, particularly of late, is to make sure that I engage with my audience! Anyone who visits one of my posts I make sure to reply to them for sure but I also have made it a recent point in the past few months to make sure I visit their blog and comment on at least one of their posts if they've taken the time to look at and comment on my post. I don't typically do this for those "nice post" type people but I guess I would look to improve on that, to hopefully change their perspective and try to improve upon their engagement.

Lately I am getting better at consistently getting a weeks worth of posts scheduled out there and that has really helped me in my goal of continuing to post daily. There are plenty of opportunities for me to improve on things but one thing I have enjoyed is being able to manage to get a weeks worth of posts out there. It helps relieve some personal stress that I have and I hope to be able to balance things out in life so that I can continue that practice!

You?

Have you tried to post daily for a period of time? Has it gone well? What have been important takeaways for you in this endeavor?

Imagine getting a 365 kill streak. That's impressive and it feels good to wear the crown doesn't it?

Hahah yeah that's definitely one way to put it! That's a nuke in my book lol thanks dude! Didn't think of it that way hahaha

I definitely saw people that had 300+ kill streaks on the leaderboards before. I'm sure they cheated. The thing is, we did it the legit way. My goal now is to double my goal of 365 posts and hit a minimum of 730 total for next year.

Oh for sure they cheated lol. That’s awesome dude congrats on a year! I’m hoping I can keep it up! 365 more days doesn’t sound too bad from this perspective! We will have to factor in moving to that though, so hopefully I can get a bunch of stuff scheduled ahead of time for when that arrives hahaha

Scheduling and precise planning are essential. Saved me so many times. We all get busy.

Omg, congratulations! That is consistency and commitment in all levels. I can barely make it to one week straight. There was a point in the first few weeks of Hive when I can publish 2x a day but I wasn't able to sustain. But maybe I can try again, at least once daily. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks! It's not an easy road to go on for things related to hive that's for sure! It's fun and definitely a learning experience but one that I'm hoping to continue for as long as I can. Will I make it to 2 years? I certainly hope I can get there! Glad that I spent some of it, though not as much as I'd like, in the awesome Edders community!

Wow that's some feat - well done! Post scheduling saves my life, but I don't think I've hit the 365 yet! Maybe I should give that a go, except people might get annoyed with seeing me waffle on all the time, bahaha - mind you I probably do 5/7 at least a week anyway.... a river of River!

Hahah thanks! It was tricky to keep going for a little while in the beginning when I wasn't scheduling as many posts as I do now. I've slacked a little bit of late but I'm trying to catch up!

You should give it a try, it's really an interesting experience to dedicate 365 days of doing something every single day besides eating, sleeping and working!

365 days, not out. That's pretty damn impressive 👏 👏

I am around 60 or 70 days into a streak myself, although I was dangerously close to missing out a few days ago. I fell asleep getting the kids to bed and I'm hoping my post uploaded to the blockchain at 23:59, but I've a bad feeling that it was actually 0:00. If it was, then I'll be really disappointed... if I was thinking I'd havr posted it half cooked and edited it straight away afterwards.

Hats off to you again though man, that's serious dedication and commitment

Thanks dude! I always schedule mine for blockchain time of 00:30 so that way I have wiggle room! It works out to be 8:30 PM my time so it's not bad. Giving it that 30 minute of wiggle room makes a big difference. Sometimes I've scheduled it for the wrong time and I go to check thinking wtf? and realize my mistake lol

Keep up the streak man! 365 days is tough at first but once you are getting things scheduled it becomes a lot easier!

Gosh, I haven't posted daily since early on in my blogging here. I managed a week a few times and even that included some 💩 posts.

Suddenly realising I've not been following you for some reason. Must be because I see you around enough to think that I was...

LOL I realized I wasn't following you for some reason earlier! I was like wtf? well let's fix that! hahah. I think it was the same, I saw your posts often enough that I figured I had followed you already.

I've been doing sort of good with putting out content that I don't think would be qualified as shitposts! I've got some that might be but overall I think it's some decent stuff. There were some days where I made some sacrifices (first world sacrifices honestly lol, nothing serious) in order to get a post out that day!

So you're saying stop by their page from time to time Eh just to let them know they're not the only one looking? Got it.

A whole year. Damn man. I went 7 days one time. A whole year of doing anything is impressive. Nice example.

Yeah man! I think it's fun to keep in contact with people on their turf instead of just doing it on mine. It get's a little awkward when they haven't made an actual post in a couple months (cough Tom cough) so I have to go back on something they've made months ago, if I haven't already.

I've enjoyed the daily posting for sure! It's got it's difficult days but I've learned quite a bit from it all and have come out the other side with some good stake which is awesome! Giving back to others is a lot of fun.

Thanks for stopping by to check this out after I hit up your piece!

Hahah nice, that was one hell of a song. The nut cracker with the middle fingers was my favorite!

I just heard about this guy I've never listened to before. This was a wild song and even wilder video

I've never seen that or heard that song, pretty cool song and just because that whole video was filmed in my back yard. Those tall cactus tree looking things are called Joshua's or Yuccas.

The rock pile he's playing the guitar on at 3:45, check this out, I know exactly where that's at—tour guide. They use that location in so many clips. It's called Dead Man's Point in Apple Valley, Ca and this is the most I've described a music video ever!

Congrats!!! what a milestone to be proud of! I haven't been able to finish a full month I think, lol. You did inspire me here though, as I already told myself to up my game to two posts a day in 2022, I may set the bar even higher at 750 for a nice round number.

To be able to accomplish this, I will have to plan a bit better as there is actually always enough to talk about, to share, or ideas.. It's more the lack of planning that ruins it on my end. Will prep a bit the next day and challenge myself for 2022 to make it happen.

Thanks for giving me the final push and reminder to schedule posts :)

You're welcome! It's definitely great to get posts scheduled but I would advise opting for one post a day. Two is a really significant amount of content to churn out, especially if you're going from not a month straight to a year. Add in kids, family and all the other responsibilities it becomes tricky to do all of that, sleep and post lmao. I have considered trying two a day maybe once a week but I would rather just keep it at 1, it's more manageable for me plus it continues to be fun. I don't want it to feel like a chore!

I know that one of the most crucial elements for me is post scheduling! I couldn't do this without it that's for sure. It allows me to write freely instead of under pressure to put it out. It's gotten a lot better now that I have a laptop to work on it all. A lot easier to type on lol. I was writing a lot of posts on my phone and that's not fun at all!

Best of luck with the streak! I will definitely see if I can stop in and check out some of them :D
