Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I found some pictures on my phone that I don't think I posted from last year, of a great butteryfly!

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly

With Hive and the various things that I post, there are always going to be pictures on my phone that I didn't get to post for one reason or another lol. This is one of those groups!

Last summer when I was walking, I remember it well, I happened to see a butterfly shooting across the area and I decided that it would be a good idea to follow it! It was a yellow butterfly, not one we usually see. Upon some research it appears that it might be an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail but I'm not an entomologist so I don't know specifically if this is accurate or not. In any case though, it's a beautiful butterfly!

I was surprised to get the pictures of the fella. Most of the butterflies I encounter are very skittish of people and if they see me approach them, they immediately take flight and zip off pretty far away. This one was not as skittish as others were and let me get fairly close which was nice. Granted I didn't get the chance to get within arms length of it to get the best pictures but I did manage to get a few good ones of it trying to enjoy some nice flower nectar!

I'm lucky that I did end up getting a couple feet from it! The colors and design on the thing were quite beautiful. I don't know if I've seen this type of butterfly around before, we usually see the occasional Monarch. I think this is my best picture of the fella overall for sure!

He, or she, I don't know the differences of the butterflies very well, was quite interested in making sure to get all the delicious nectar of the plants and not as much attention on the giant bipedal thing standing behind it, so it was cool to get a little bit closer to it than I normally would have been otherwise! I made sure to show the pictures to the little man a few days later, he tends to get upset that he doesn't get to see these things up close lol but I was not expecting to get a few pictures of anything interesting. I was doing a trash run after all! I tend to bring my phone with me for no other reason than to have it ready to snap a couple pictures if the opportunity presents itself!

The opportunity here certainly did present itself and I'm glad that it did. I tend to forget these small but cool encounters that I have, as unique as they are, they get flushed right out unless I take a picture of it lol so that I can remember it. My wife's memory is like a damn elephant and she will remember things from 10 years ago but I can't remember certain things from a week ago since my mind didn't find it that relevant. Since I took a picture of this fella though, I remember the exact scenario I was in when I took them so that's certainly something to grind her gears hahaha. Maybe if she's mad at me for something I should take a picture of her face and I might remember the situation better LOL I can imagine the look on her face as I'm pulling out my phone to say "cheese". Not thrilled I'm sure :D

I have so very many pictures I haven't posted anywhere (yet)... one day. Maybe.

Your picture of this butterfly is beautiful. You really were lucky that it didn't immediately flutter away.
