Generating Checklists

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about something pretty nerdy, if I do say so myself!

Generating Checklists

I've certainly done a number of things in my life - nonetheless there is always room for improvement! I actually implemented one of those improvements and it's been pretty good from what I would estimate!

IMG_0776.JPG

I've always been one of those "go with the flow" people in almost every area of my life. It helps me quite a bit but it also can hurt me in other ways. One of those ways was my lack of preparation assistance because I could remember some of the things, but certainly not all of them. This is where checklists come in!

I know.. it's pretty fucking dumb that I'm bragging about checklists, but they do everything they need them to do: remind you of shit LOL. I was usually one who would defer most of that stuff to my wife which was exhausting for her, but we are all infallible and we would often forget a couple things. My wife is one of those people who is pretty organized and loves checklists. I resisted them quite a bit throughout the years but it is sadly efficient.. lol. I'm usually good at remembering things but sadly some things do slip my mind and it's not good when you are in the situation of getting ready for a vacation.

My current role as a project manager means that I have to be more organized than I would be in the past. I often remember a lot of the tasks or conversations that I have at work but there are quite a few things that it's best to not use just your memory, but doing a number of tasks via checklists. Adding items to the list and then crossing them off when complete - that's pretty good to me! I think one of the things that I like about the checklists is that it helps me feel like I've done things.

Whether in work or in life though, I have definitely improved since I started making checklists for things. I've reserved them to big things in the personal life but when it came to helping prepare for the vacation that we are on, you better believe I gotta pull out the big guns so that I can help my wife with the whole thing a lot more than I would before.

It is to be determined if I indeed forgot to add something to the checklist, but it was a pretty successful endeavor. I think of all kinds of things that we would like to bring when I'm just going about my day. The biggest thing to remember to do is write the damn thing down LOL. I started doing that for my Hive posts and that's been good because I am able to check it off the list of pending posts!

What about you, have you improved your life and organizational skills by doing normal things like having a checklist? Do you use checklists? Let me know in the comments

I don't have a checklist, I just pretty much let God happen to me. This doesn't mean I'm not organized, I just feel like the pressure of having to mark something on the checklist as "approved" can be tasking. Although it can be satisfying to do. I feel it's a skill.

Yeah that was me for sure before kids lol they are a lot and you need more than just a couple pairs of clothes so I've adopted checklists that I do for work too. It helps me not forget things!

Lol
I don’t have a checklist though but I’ve got plans for my life and know the things of next thing for me to do in life but the checklist is not something I’ve ever thought of having

Yep ! I do use these lists to get organized. Without them, I lose myself in activities that are important for my well-being, but that don't allow me to move forward with my work and other projects.

A client I work with recently confided in me, "I don't need a checklist, I have everything in my head." It was at this point that I felt like reminding him of the number of meetings he had forgotten to have with me because of other meetings he had also forgotten, as well as the many times he had to provide me with items for the project and failed to do so. However, I held back because it's important not to offend a client.

However, my point is that without a checklist, it can feel like you're managing efficiently and holding everything back. I'm not questioning their ability. But one thing is certain: the absence of a checklist makes it impossible to prioritize tasks effectively. And it's this inability to prioritize that wastes everyone's time. So, yes, I use checklists a lot.

Recently, I've been using them a little less (for the past two weeks), and I've fallen way behind on my work by accepting too many requests from new customers and "forgetting" that I was already committed to many other projects.

Yeah for sure it's really helped me personally and professionally to get good at using checklists! I go by memory on some things but I'm trying to get more formal and utilizing checklists for the important pieces. I used to try to do it all in my head but that's a fool's errand often times and we should let the tools available help us!

I'm glad you are better off with the lists. I know it can sometimes be annoying to use them but it certainly helps.

To be boring is to be boring. Especially for people who don't like control (probably like most people on Hive, by the way ^^), but it's still really practical and, above all, it allows you to move forward more confidently towards your long-term goals.

oh yeah, checklists...I know them;)) but I don't make them:))
I'd better use them like visualisation, making plans or lists of wishes I try to reach. sometimes I practice it, and it's very interesting to see what you wrote 1-2 years ago

Lol ya I’m one to enjoy a good list! I’m actually not far from your neck of the woods- in Daytona!

Looks are definitely deceiving! I’m sure I look a bit different than my interests but we all are unique for sure.
