Today I wanted to appreciate the opportunity we are getting with some discounted Hive!

HBD For Hive Lately

Since the month of October began, I don't believe I've deposited a single Hive Back Dollar (HBD) into my savings account for it!

One of the things that's been an aggressive goal of mine for the last few months is trying to achieve my Hive Power goal for the year, which is 25,000 Hive Power staked for my account! I'm going to ping a friend of mine that's way better at SQL than I am (Asher! :D) to check for me what my Hive Power was for 1/1/2022. I'd be curious to what that number was! I don't really remember it, I think it was 19k or 20k Hive Power which would be great if I was able to earn in one form or another, 5,000 Hive Power in a year! That number doesn't matter as much to me as my end of the year goal of 25,000 HP though!

Goal setting has been one of the things that I've gotten better at in various forms which is nice. This has allowed me to have some focus on things both inside as well as outside crypto!

With that goal in mind of 25k HP though!, I had a period of time where I was pretty sure I wasn't going to be able to hack it and would fall short! That was based on calculations based on current reward and curation payouts over the next 60 days it was, since I was posting that on 11/1/22, and it didn't look like it was going to happen unless I had some incredible luck somewhere along the line.

That luck ended up turning up, and in a pretty damn good way!

The Splinterlands ecosystem has been a key driver for success for many on here, myself included. I originally got into the game out of fun and because I had won a contest or two where I got some of the packs for free. That was way back in the day when Asher and others ran some minnow league stuff which was a lot of fun! In those minnow leagues, I was able to win some of the prizes and at the time those prizes were Alpha and Beta packs for Splinterlands! Fast forward to today, it's wild to think about getting a beta pack, considering the price of them now lol but that's asset appreciation. It could easily have gone the other way and down the toilet like some other things have!

The ecosystem has allowed me to earn all kinds of incredible amounts of rewards in various means, over the few years that I've played it. I think I've invested several thousand dollars at this point, as well as thousands of hours of playtime. That equates to quite a bit of assets that I've bought and accumulated! With investing in those numbers though, there's going to be returns somewhere along the line if you're able to play your cards right (see what I did there? :D unintended pun!).

The Splinterlands ecosystem has pulled in for me big this time, and it was crunch time down to the wire type stuff! I'm talking about their expansion with Major League Soccer in their roll out of Genesis League Sports that's going to be coming up. In preparation for that, those who hold SPS in Splinterlands (which I've got tens of thousands of!) get airdrops daily in the asset that is the game token of some kind. I don't know enough about it though, because sadly, I am going to not be playing it lol I have enough things that I've got going on and I can't add another game to my plate!

What that means is that I've been selling every bit of the asset that I've gotten via the airdrop! I know some people might be offended by that but that's the nature of things. I don't plan on playing or investing in the environment for a few reasons (KYC being one of them..) so I'm out! That's allowed me to have an unexpected windfall of 450 or so Hive! That was such a huge plus to my rewards for the upcoming #HPUD that I am now definitely able to cross the 25,000 Hive Power goal I've got for the year! I'm stoked about that one for sure lol. Even if all my upcoming posts get nulled out to 0 I will still be able to make the 25,000 based on curation plus the liquid Hive I've got hanging out in my wallet!

I read something yesterday that someone was peeved about people selling HBD in a market downturn like we're having. I get the focus on it but it's an asset that is meant to be spent. If things turn south people are looking for exit liquidity and HBD has been one of them. If we are to have Hive be a long-term competitor of the various other crypto projects out there, we will need to make sure we can withstand volatility in the various assets we've got, specifically HBD. I think we have the capability to do that, it will just depend on some other factors coming about. HBD sinks is one of the big ones and savings accounts are one of the many tools we've got to try and encourage the capture of HBD.
