Local Scenery Photography

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to participate in the scenery contest with a selection of my favorite scenery images I've taken!

I (blame) thank Galen for the number of images here :D Or maybe I blame myself for taking so many damn pictures! Lol

Photography is one of the things that my wife and I consider a good hobby of ours. We don't exactly have the best eye for the perfect shot but we manage to snag a picture or two here and there that ends up looking halfway decent and worth committing to the blockchain a little bit! I've likely got more pictures somewhere on my hard drive but I wanted to make this one a little more concise. I'll give some background for the pictures and what was going on when we took the shot!

The first one here is a lovely sunset. I've got a thing for sunset photography! I know that sunrise photography is pretty cool but there's something to the expiration of the day and the warm, orange glow that occurs and the crazy hues and beautiful scenery that comes with it. It's certainly a nice thing to experience! This one was taken in Maine one of the summers, I forget if it was last year or the year before.

This is one of my oldest pictures that I've saved! I took this I think 10 years ago or maybe a little more but I went on an unexpected snowboarding trip up to Vermont near where my grandfather used to live. The mountain is called Jay (Kris lives fairly close to it now that he's up in VT!) and one of the common things with Jay is the beauty they call "Jay Cloud" where the lake near the base of the mountain produces all kinds of awesome clouds. This was getting close to the top of the mountain and peering down to the mist, it's by far one of my favorite pictures I've ever taken! Very ominous looking lol

I will admit that this wasn't a picture that I was able to get, because it's freaking hard to catch lightning at the right moment but we recorded a video of a lightning storm a few years ago and I took some stills from it. Looks awesome, those crazy dark clouds are my favorite with that giant flash ripping across the sky! Gotta love New Hampshire!

This is one of my favorite pictures I've ever taken, and I actually ended up printing it once and it's hanging up on a wall near my office space. It was an incredible early October snowstorm that we got while the trees still had their New England fall colors on them! I absolutely love the freshly fallen snow look to it and the calm, reflective look of the lake. With the house in the background there, it sometimes reminds me of a painting or something that you would see at a random store in Vermont or Maine lol. Absolutely one of my favorites I've ever had the luck of taking!

This one here is a pretty common feature in some of my posts where I'm talking about things that have absolutely nothing to do with the picture lol. I've used it in a number of my Leo posts for whatever reason :D. I love the reflection of the mountain and the crisp snap of the environment that we were able to get with the camera. This one was taken with our DSLR digital camera and a 50mm lens. It's a nice, summery photo that I fondly look at and remember the trip that we took up to the mountains and the beauty we looked at all around us.

The pictures here wouldn't be complete without a fall foliage one or two! Looking back at these different pictures though, I've realized that I'm a little lacking with some foliage shots! I will have to try and correct that in the upcoming fall, which is thankfully months away so that I can enjoy a few months of summer before it gets there lol. We are lucky to live near a few lakes and ponds, to give us a chance to take a few snaps like this one!

Summertime is definitely the season for us though and our adventures. We've traveled to quite a number of places throughout the region and we've been able to visit some beautiful spots! This one is at the lower end of the mountains, about an hour away from the bridge waterfall picture above. This river here is one that I've spent many days on as I've gotten older, it's quite a large and windy one that starts up in the mountains and empties out into other rivers and lakes to eventually dump into the ocean. This area right here is about 15 miles or so from the source, and the river runs for a few hundred miles!

This one is kind of funny, in that we got a random beautiful batch of weather in the middle of winter! We had this fantastic batch of weather in the heart of January recently and damn was it amazing. You got the gorgeous sunshine, a bit of warmth and some beach to break up the winter challenges with cold temperatures, dreary weather and steel-gray skies. We soaked in these hours as much as possible that's for sure!

The little man and I spend quite a bit of time near water, if you couldn't figure that out by now :D he's obsessed with rivers! I don't mind at all, because it brings us to some really beautiful areas and we get to take some great opportunities to spend time together, do a little fishing, hiking and I'm able to sneak a picture or two. This one is a little cocked off kilter but that's okay lol. I'm probably one of the only ones who noticed that aspect of it :D Maybe Taraz too! Him and I chatted about that, where it's a little annoying when they are slightly off kilter and throws the mojo off.

I think this one here is one of my favorites. I absolutely love seeing sunsets but when you get those wild cloud formations like this, it makes it truly special! We were in Maine a few years ago and got this beautiful little room at a place that was right on a lake. The lake was gorgeous, warm water, crystal clear and full of fish! We really had a lot of fun at this one but I also was able to snatch a photo or two like this when the little man was off doing other things.

Ah that was a really fun trip down memory lane! I definitely enjoy taking pictures of the beauty around us, but what's truly special is that you don't have to travel to the ends of the earth to get it! We all have absolutely beautiful places around us no matter where we live, you just have to take a little step back and appreciate it in a different eye. Yeah it's definitely cool to go to places like New Zealand, Rome or the Amazon to see some beautiful places but often times we have such beauty outside our doorstep! We just may not realize it! All of these pictures were taken within 3 hours of where we live, we didn't have to drive thousands of miles to far off places to see the beauty around us. I think it would be cool if more people thought of it that way! :D

Looking forward to seeing what others come up with for the contest!
