Passive and Active Earning

Hi fellow Lions,

Today I wanted to share what I think is awesome about Hive and the potential for tokenized futures in many regards.

Passive and Active Earning

While I know that many people might find the voting trails something that's distasteful or annoying, I really find it helpful as someone who has invested not only time in the platform, but money out of my own pocket as well.

One of the things that's really becoming powerful as the tokenomics of Hive and other places gains popularity and users, is the increase in the ability to have passive income streams, as well as the obvious active income streams.

Passive income streams are going to be of vital importance to the future, in my opinion, as the legacy economy tries to catch up with what we are doing here in the crypto realm, more importantly what we are doing on Hive. Places like CUB with the farms, dens and all the like are fantastic sources of income but so isn't the base layer, one thing many people tend to ignore or forget. The savings accounts of Fiat and stock portfolios are certainly going to have some challenges when more people come to realize that you can have constant bits of money coming in, even if it's small initially.

I know for most people who are on here this is nothing that's new but I've been looking at the things I've been making a day and each week to just get some rough numbers on what I've got coming in just on this platform alone. With the economic future being something that we have control over now, in the form of cryptocurrency, I am trying to crunch some personal numbers to see what I am doing and what I can do more of or improve.

Since I've been focusing not only on the different projects (Hive Engine ones) that are going on within Hive but also on trying to stack up as much Hive Power as I can, voting has been an important piece of what I do. With that voting of course, comes changes in habits. I used to be a proud manual-only curator for a long time, only voting what I wanted to so that I could decide what content I support. That was great for it's purpose but things changed for me personally and I couldn't focus as much time on voting and making sure I wasn't sitting at or near 99-100% voting power. That's when I started using the Hive.Vote service!

One of the things I'm incredibly happy and grateful to see is that on some days, my curation rewards outpace my author rewards! I think that's phenomenal! While I am working, sleeping or doing everything else I do in a day, I'm able to make some money now that I follow the Curangel voting trail. Curators for the group are in all the different timezones so there's always something coming in! (9.5% curation APR is pretty great if you ask me!)

It also helps that I'm following a bunch of people myself, who I generally like and enjoy their content. I know some bitch about this but I don't think the utopia mindset is a good one to have, we all have lives and want to earn some money when we don't have the time to spend on something. I do what I can and am happy with it! I don't just throw my votes around willy-nilly, I wait a while before adding someone to the trail of my votes.

Gaming

The other fantastic space that's really helped a lot of people, myself included for sure, gain quite a bit of funds is through Splinterlands! I've been able to do well with the deck that I've accumulated playing over the years and that's led me to both active rewards that are great in the form of winning battles as well as renting out cards.

Kiokizz has this awesome tool that you can use for Splinterlands, called SplinterStats where you can have it calculate information for you so you can see what you've gotten over the past season. I think I'll eventually do some DataViz work on that but happy to see that I earned many thousand DEC last season! At current prices (11/23), that's 166 Hive, worth about 170$.

While not as drastic, one of the important things as well is the rental markets. With the rental markets now integrated directly into the Splinterlands game instead of relying on sites like PeakMonsters and Monster Market, players that are new can easily and quickly rent cards that they want. This has led to a massive spike in the rental markets power and influence on the game!

There is also DCity but sadly the tokenomics of that one have gotten all messed up as of late and it's still fun but the manipulation has made the token plummet in value. Hopefully it can have a break-out like Splinterlands but it took Splinterlands many years to get to where it's at so I'm going long on DCity in hopes it can perform well.

To keep some brevity, I will leave it at these two important sources for me. I could also go into Hive Engine and other things like that but perhaps that's for a future post.

I think those who get sad about content and spend there whole time promoting Hive also tend to get caught up in drama and also burn out more quickly.

It's great to just enjoy it and let things slowly build over time the turn around gets impressive.

Yeah absolutely! There’s someone I interact with often that’s completely burned out and got a big case of the grumbles lately. I told him to take a break for a while and do something else. Don’t expect the world and more every time you open a browser or Ecency. Take it for what it is and try to take a step back. It’s gotta be fun in my opinion!
