Piling Monochrome Monday

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share some pictures from our recent trip that I really enjoyed in black and white!

Piling Monochrome Monday

Going to the beach is definitely one of the more enjoyable things that we can do when we go away. There are lots of things to do of course, but spending a few days relaxing near the beach is high on that list!

We recently went on a nice vacation and some of the days we were there, we spent them on the beach of some sort. I love listening to the waves, smelling the fresh salt air and just generally relaxing in the sunlight. This also means doing a little exploring up and down the coastline!

I don't get to see piers too often, or pilings, when we are at the beach. The places that we go generally just don't have these places which is okay, but when we do end up at a beach where they have a pier going out into the water, it is a really cool thing! I certainly love walking down the pier and seeing the perspective out on the water of course, but I also love going underneath them. I don't know what it is about standing underneath it, seeing the hundreds of thousands of barnacles all over the pilings, clinging on and getting a little bit of food as the water comes and goes. It's got such a cool look to it!

I also really enjoy the sound of the waves with the echo off the pier above it, it's quite a different sound for the ocean than you would think. The reverberations of the crash of the waves hits different when it's partially muted from the roof above and the pilings, but also reflected around because of the same factors. It's a remarkable unique sound to it!

Turning some of the pictures into black and white though is really cool as well! We get a bit of a different feel to them and it lends an aura of a little bit of doom, to some extent. I love how it deepens the shadows that are at the top of the pier, even though it's daylight it is fairly gloomy under there. This particular set is pretty cool because it's got a long row of pilings one after the other, with one at the very end right in the middle giving it a little bit of a creepy feel to it!

I love taking these everyday pictures and transferring them into something more unique and interesting through just making a simple change to black and white. The absence of color makes you think of different things and I like that, having to put in some extra work to get the different perspective it brings.
