Sea Faring Ducklings

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to appreciate the tenacity of the animal world!

Sea Faring Ducklings

Summertime is full of lots of wonderful things for sure and one of those things for me, particularly of late, is appreciating the life that sprouts up all around the place!

We've done a lot of fun stuff at the tide pools this summer and last year we found this really fun and cool inlet in one of the areas on the coastline of New Hampshire where we found all kinds of really cool wildlife. This year we got to see a pretty sizable family of ocean-going ducks!

I spent a few minutes trying to figure out what the hell type of bird this is but I turned up nothing lol ah well, the internet is full of a wealth of information but that can be a downside as well! In any case though, this species of bird was quite the active ones! I was really happy to see such a large number of the chicks swimming around with the parents. I don't know the percentage of the chicks that grow up into adulthood. I am hoping that it would be high enough since the chicks were appearing to be a few weeks old at least so they got over the biggest hurdle.

The little things were doing great at foraging through the shallow parts of the tide here! This part of the beach wasn't the best because for whatever reason it was getting a lot of algae and seaweed in it where lots of the other parts of this beach weren't. That meant it was prime spot for the little chicks to get used to eating the food and foraging around for the good stuff! I am assuming that the sea ducks here eat all kinds of small sea life like crustaceans such as crabs and whatnot. Good nutrition there for sure!

I will definitely be keeping an eye on these little guys the next time we go back to this beach, if they are even still there! These photos were taken a few weeks ago and these critters tend to grow fast so they can start flying off on their own!

For sure, you will see them again. I love how peaceful the beach in your place is. Looking forward to see these ducks in your blog again.

Thanks! I know we will see the little critters again!

This place is definitely a beautiful and calm area, which is why we go there. Most of the people go to the larger beaches with lots of people. It's fun to go there for sure but we prefer the quieter areas where we get less people and competition for the space! This beach is full of rocks and not very comfortable to sit down which is why less people go here lol but we don't mind, we are usually in the water more than anything!
