Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share some photos from the recent zoo trip that we went on!

Zootopic Monochrome Monday

The zoo is one of the places that we have gone to every so often for the last few years, since our son has been able to make longer trips. There is a lot to be said about a zoo; animals should be in their natural habitat and other things. With some of the better zoos however, I think that we can give the animals a pretty good life despite the challenges!

Zoos have been a pretty hot topic for as long as I can remember, with animal rights people trying to get them shut down and all that. I get it, but at the same time, we are the stewards of the planet and that also comes with abilities to take animals out of their environments which can be pretty unfortunate and chaotic given that a lot of people are trying to cut down the forests and areas where these animals are calling home. That is a different topic in of itself but it's something to keep in mind here.

With the recent trip to the zoo that we went on, we saw all kinds of really wonderful animals and it's good to keep exposing our son to these things so that we can help him appreciate the life that surrounds us. Too many people have their kids stuck in front of a device and other foolish and time-wasting activities instead of being outside in nature, learning something about the things that we are sharing the planet with. My wife and I have made it a very purposeful mission of ours to get our son to experience and do as many things that we can, so that we can help mold him into what we think he should be as he gets older. Primarily, a good man and human!

The zoo shows us all kinds of animals that we don't normally get to see, like the tortoises, monkeys, snakes and other mammals of the animal kingdom. This was the first year that I had brought the really good camera and lens though, so you bet your ass I was going to be taking pictures! :D I am really happy how they turned out, honestly! A lot of them came out really well and I picked out the best ones here for a few pictures to get flipped to black and white for monochrome Monday. The monkeys were certainly a highlight for me, though I didn't get to convince many of them to look right at me how I wanted but that's okay. I still got some!

I think my absolute favorite one of the day has got to be this flamingo picture! The eye staring directly at you while it's trying to rest is a really powerful statement and I think it is much more apparent in black and white. I think what really tops the whole thing off is the pinpoint little dot in the middle of it's eye, it feels like the damn thing is staring into your soul! Shit lol. I took this picture relatively early in our time at the zoo so I was surprised that I didn't get another photo that I felt was as dramatic as this one, but I am so happy that I captured it! It looks incredible in black and white in my opinion!

I share the opinion that animals should be in their natural habitat, fortunately some are well cared for in various zoos. Beautiful pictures!

Yeah many animals should be in their natural habitats but if the zoo is not a mess and actually take care of the animals then it's not so bad!

I'm one of those too dude. I try to look the other way if there's so much as a billboard advertisement which are only in the US, by the way. Fly into London or Rome or something and there's no billboards blinding the plane like LAX. Imagine that!! Freeways and interstates and off-ramps without billboard advertisements..

No judging. I'm actually a big fan of seeing images with the children enjoying themselves. I'm not an advocate, though, that's for sure, quite the opposite. As soon as I learned Sea World lied to me I got nothing but middle fingers for ALL quote animal sanctuaries end quote.

Yeah it's annoying how some places try to pull the wool over peoples eyes with how they treat and care for the animals. Thankfully this zoo here is one of the good ones. We have a few others in our area but they are the ones that are shitty IMO so we don’t give them any money. One of the inner city ones has a bunch of random local animals lol like ok we don’t need to go to the zoo to see a coyote or a deer but people who live in the cities don’t get exposed to it much, so I guess that’s their option.

Your son must be filled with lots of knowledge including the fishing experiences he had. The pictures are so cool…
