Travel Bloggers in this Pandemic

I wanted to become a Travel Blogger sometime back in 2019 along with my career. I also tried to write about my travel out here on Hive. Some of the travel blogs which I have written are:

  1. Hidden Beauty of Kodaikanal - Trekking to Dolphin Nose
  2. Bike Trip to Manchanabele Reservoir and Savandurga Hill
  3. Weekend Trekking to Ramanagara
  4. A Day trip to Shravanabelagola
  5. My 2-Day Budget Trip to Mysore from Bangalore

Now I cannot call myself a travel blogger even if I have written some posts about it, but in 2019 I was fascinated by the very thought of a career like travelling and blogging. A lot of people do this as a professional but I wanted to take it as a hobby. The same thinking has crossed my mind today, what would be happening with those travel bloggers in the time of lockdown, when they actually cannot travel physically. If we talk about tourism, it has been one of the most affected industries in this situation. Though there are exceptions, because some of the countries still allowing solo travel or travel by their vehicle, but we should not count it because those are like 1-2% or even less.

One of the things in travel blogging or even any blogging is actually the trust between the clients. Most of the travel bloggers have the client who pays them to write about any restaurant opening or any hotel opening. So I guess if any of the travel bloggers have that previous client its the time to connect with them and find out the challenges they are facing. In that way you are trying to help others in this challenging time as well as if they have any work for you, then you will find the work even in the lock-down.

Along with that, the habit of writing should not stop, if they do not have anything to write (if you are not getting any work from the client), its better to write anything and everything. This should be time-bound so that when you get the work again you should not miss the deadlines. I am not a professional writer though I try to spend 30-45 minutes of my time every day to write an article from the last 10 days. Given a full-time job, a kid at home, its hard to find that time but still thinking of continuing it for another 1 month to see if I can continue writing every day. I keep the deadlines to myself that I have to write more than 500 words in 30 minutes, though sometimes it goes till 45 minutes that's ok. Now if anyone is a professional writer, they will take much more time but still, they have to keep the deadlines intact so that if they get the real work they don't miss it.

Now if we talk about travel blogging, they do not have to travel to write about it. I have seen a lot of bloggers to write about a place without actually visiting it and thus taking the photos from the client or from Google itself. Thus there is still a scope to write about something, just to give your followers to read about something interesting in the lock-down. In Hive we have seen so many people were sharing their old travel photos since they can travel anymore, there is also a good scope for the travel bloggers to enhance their past work and give it a new style and present it. I am sure, when we rewrite something again it will always come out better than the previous ones.

But I think these are testing times and we should not lose our mental strength, this is the time to put mental health before anything. We have seen so many suicides happened this year, but let me tell you ups and downs are part and parcel of life and thus this downs will also not remain constant, might be it will take some time but we will see a ray of hope soon.

I suspect that the pandemic would be a good time for travel photographers as they could get pictures without all of those pesky tourists in the way.

I imagine that the world's travel photographers are all stuck in a location and figuring out the best way to photograph that particular location.

The best photographers often spend several months trying to figure out the best way to photograph a subject. My guess then is that the best travel photographers will end up with a really nice portfolio of images of the the place they were forced to hole up in 2020.

I also desperately want to be a travel vlogger but can't travel even if there was no lockdown situation. Main reason is that I don't have any source of income and also I'm a bit early to start.

Don't want to be a professional but just because I like doing it. Someday it might be possible to do so.

Yes that's a good option to keep it as a hobby, which will also be a stress buster.
