Market Friday: A Mutually Beneficial Relationship

One of the most enjoyable activities that can provide a wonderful experience is traveling to other locations. Due to work and marriage, I have lived in three different regions of Ghana. My frequent trips to Kumasi, the Ashanti's capital town, primarily to spend the weekends with my family has thought me alot. During those trips I've learned some really intriguing things about how business is done in Accra.Today I will share in #MarketFriday by @dswigle. In order for business to be conducted, buyers and marketers must cooperate; this is standard practice in the marketing industry. It appears to be more structured among people doing business in Accra.

Iet me give you a clear picture of what I'm trying to say here: Whenever I travel from Accra to Kumasi, I always choose 2M Express service. Due of their speed and careful driving, I prefer their service. They have skilled drivers that operate their vehicles cautiously, earning them a solid reputation as one of Ghana's top transportation providers. I have to say that one of Ghana's most successful industries right now is transportation. Despite the fact that many people now opt for flight when taking long trips, the majority of travel is still done by buses.

Vendors/hawkers at the 2M Express station offer goods to passengers boarding buses. For them, this is a good opportunity to do business and make quick money. They are aware of what the passengers will need and will bring these products to them as they board the buses or as soon as they are seated. They assist the drivers in keeping passengers seated as the bus conductors wait for more passengers in a way. Some of the certified vendors/hawkers even assist the transportation company in tidying up their premises. Both the transportation businesses and the vendors here seem to be doing well. They complement one another well.

Majority of buses stop at Linda Dor, a popular rest stop, after traveling from Accra for approximately an hour or from Kumasi for around three hours. Passengers can get what they need at Linda Dor before continuing their journey. We had fifteen minutes to get what we needed when our bus stopped. Everyone had to hurry and get anything they needed before the driver starts the engine again. I witnessed a case in which we were forced to leave a passenger behind since he had delayed us. Linda Dor is a busy place with practically every local and continental food that travellers would require. There is a hotel, a place of convenience, a pharmacy, ATM's, and other amenities.

The transport firms and Linda Dor especially seem to profit from the positive relationship that exists here and seems to be advantageous to everyone. Most of these bus drivers stopped at Linda Dor so that passengers might buy from them, and they are therefore entitled to tips. According to my personal observations, this location appears to be isolated from other businesses in the Bunsu town where it is located and has been monoplistic. I suppose the reason it has become such a busy location is because of the vehicles that stop there. You should understand that they must take additional steps to encourage drivers to stop by so that business can continue to prosper. Except those in extreme hurry, almost all buses traveling to Accra or Kumasi stop at Linda Dor.

Again, in an effort to outperform the competition, these transportation providers frequently devise attractive packages in the form of discounts that will increase the number of passengers. 2M Express is making an alluring offer that can be advantageous to those who want to save some money on their travel. We are in a difficult period, and inflation seems to be causing prices of products and services to grow too quickly. Initially, a four hour trip ticket on 2M Express cost ¢40 cedis/$4.6, but subsequently, the price has increased to ¢70 cedis/$8.1. With these reductions, they will be able to keep their current clientele and possibly even draw in more, while travelers like me who travel frequently can also save some money. I see another win-win situation between the customers and the transport firm.

I have learned from my observations and research how crucial it is to maintain every business, no matter how little. More stretegies should be adopted by businesses to accomplish that. The right course of action is to implement a business strategy, provided that doing so won't seriously harm the interests of other businesses. You should also be aware of how crucial it is to take into account other important players in your business.

Reading your post took me back to my college life while I used to travel between the Capital Dhaka city and my home town. The scenario are almost same. Travel by bus, stop at a certain highway hotel for a break and resume our journey.

Thanks for sharing your journey.

Great pictures friend. I love the roasted meat picture (Suya). You are right friend, the buyer and seller must agree before a deal could be struck. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, I miss traveling. I miss those long hours of travel that we have done back then when I was younger studying far from home. We then would take 8-10 and sometimes 12-hour bus ride and there were stopovers along the way signaling how close or far we are from home. I don't recall promos from any of the bus companies that we have here in terms of fare rates although some offer cheaper prices but whatever the price is, that's just it. Although discounts are given to students or senior citizens or people with disabilities.

Safe travels!

I got here through #MarketFriday :)

It is good to know how the entire system works, you are definitely able to benefit from it. It seems that you travel enough to have picked it up. What about the infrequent traveler? Is there a way for them to also take advantage of it?

What business strategy do you intend to implement? I like watching you in action and how you take note of what is going on around you.
