Greeting to you all in the name of Lord Jesus Christ. Today will be my second time of sharing with you what I learnt from mass Indoctrination teaching session on prayer. This has been a great opportunity for us to learn more about prayer and how to do it the right way and also knowing about some erroneous teachings on prayer by some denominations. Prayer is not something that is easily done, it is a hard work and so we need to learn how to do it the right way for us to receive answers.

Important points we have learned from God's word discussed in the Zoom meeting:

A prayer has a content according to the Bible and it is not a narrative or story telling. Ehphesians 4:6 makes us understand that a prayer is a request or petition. Whatever it is we need to ask God. Whenever you need something you ask and you don't recite any kind of prayer like the Apostle's Creed.

In Acts 1:25, we learnt that when the Apostles needed a replacement for Judas Iscariot they asked God for a new disciple by gathering in prayer for God to lead them. This is exactly what is prayer is about, the Apostles prayed for what they needed at the moment and never engaged in vain repetition.

The Meaning of Prayer

The meaning of prayer is asking from God. it isn't about reciting anything but asking about what you need from the Lord at the moment of prayer. The request has to be made with thanksgiving as we are directed by the Bible in Philippians 4:6.

Thanksgiving is included because you trust that your request is granted as you pray. In Mathew 11:24, Jesus tells us to believe anything we ask for in prayer and thanking God whenever you pray is a sign that believe you have received.

Our prayer shouldn't be about telling stories or narrating something as some denominations do, like reciting hail Mary, full of grace...... We are the ones to pray and not to command some personalities like the mother of Christ, Mary to pray for us.

It is wrong doctrine to ask the dead to pray for you and this is not right according to the Bible. The Bible rather commands us to pray by making our requests known to God like Christ prayed by giving thanks and broke the bread for the 5000 men.

When Should We Pray?

Some people only pray when they have problems or when they have a lot of issue but when times are good they hardly pray and that should be not be our case. We should pray at all times. People use their phones the whole day but forget prayer in a day.

According to the parable of Jesus in Luke 18:1-8 we are commanded to pray and not cease. This means prayer should be done at all times and not sometimes.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to pray without ceasing. The church of God should offer pray at all times without ceasing just like how Christ taught us.

How Can We Be Sure Our Prayers Will Be Heard?

Our entire being needs to be in conformity with the word of God for our prayer to be heard. 2 Timothy 2:22 tells us that the one who calls on God should do it out of pure heart. If you call on God without pure heart your prayers will not be heard.

1 Peter 3:11 tells us more that it will be impossible for God to listen to anyone who is praying and having an evil heart or wicked heart. When the upright pray God is delighted.

What is The Meaning of a Pure Heart?

In Mattew 15:19 we are told about the things that proceeds from the heart that defile a person. When you pray with all these malice in your heart you have an unpure heart and God won't listen.

Jeremiah 17:10 tells us that the Lord searches our heart to see what is in there to give us according to our deeds. Prayer should be offered with the right and pure heart.

2 Chronicles 7:14 shows us the conditions of God concerning prayer which is not that difficult to follow. It is all about purifying our hearts before we pray. A lot of people pray without meeting the conditions of God and so do not receive answers. Cleansing our heart is the first thing we need to do before we pray.

How Can Our Heart Be Made Clean?

In John 15:3, we understood that our heart can be clean through the word of God. How? To clean our heart with the word of God we need to allow it to enter our heart just like David said in Psalm 119:11.

We need to study the word of God to be able allow it to enter our heart to cleanse us of sin. The purification of our heart is all about the obedience to the truth which is the word of God. John 17:17

For our hearts to be purified and for God to listen to us we should depart from iniquity just as we are told in 2 Timothy 2:19. The iniquities we are to depart from are what is listed in Galantians 5:20.

If our hearts is pure our mouth will be pure and our prayers will be pure for God. If our heart is evil whatever may proceed from our mouth will be evil making our prayers unpure before God.
We should also remember what the Lord said to us in Matthew 5:37. Our "YES" should be "YES" and our "NO" should be "NO" in our communication.

We should be truthful at all times in our communication in order not to sin with our tongue for it to hinder our prayers. The tongue cannot be tamed by any man but the word of God can teach us how to tame it. Since the same tongue is what we use in prayer we need to use it well with respect to God's word.

We were admonished to pray always, God is always with us according Hebrews 13:5. If we know how to trust and obey God, His words will always work in our favour and our prayers will be effective.

Old Belief That was Improved By Listening To The Bible Studies:

From the teachings today, I discovered how thanksgiving can make our prayers very effective. I used to think that we thank God just because we need to do so in our prayers but from the teachings I discovered that thanking God even before we receive answer to our prayers is a sign that we trust and believe in His ability to answer or grant our petition. It is a sign that we believe that we will receive whatever we ask for in prayer.

How the Study Can Make Us Better And How We Can Use In Our Daily Lives

Prayer is a necessity for survival and we can't do without it. It is a way we are able to communicate with God and when not done the right way it will only be a waste of our time. By the end of the session I'm sure a lot will be uncovered on prayer which is very broad topic and I believe it will help us to communicate effectively with God everyday. Our channel to God which is prayer can be distorted with the many things that the teaching sessions has helped to unravel and with this kind of knowledge I believe we will not pray amiss.

Thanks be to God for listening on our meeting.

MCGI Cares (Hive) community's main mission is to share the words of God, not the Hive upvotes. If we get upvotes, please treat it as just a bonus. Do not focus mainly on material things as the bible is teaching us not to look at things seen but rather focus our eyes on things not seen.

II CORINTHIANS 4:18
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
