Does technology distract children from learning?
Hello again, I hope to continue contributing to very necessary topics for the development of our children, and is that we are living in a technological world where using a physical book is now a myth.
In this XXI century we are living in a world collapsed with technologies that every day more and more surround us in such a way that we have become totally dependent on it and it is not all bad but are our children giving it a good use at the time of learning?
Nowadays it is a little complicated to have the right attention at the time of studying because of 100% of a student population more than 80% carry a smartphone, in the same way other distractions such as Tablet, computers and TV reduce the performance at the time of any academic activity.
The performance of a student at school is determined by the degree of concentration with which he/she carries out his/her tasks, if the study of any exam was immersed in any distraction, the performance will always be low.
The negative side of all this is that if a student carries out technological tasks while studying, it could present mental fatigue and retake the main idea of a subject is much more difficult, on the other hand, the student will not fully consume all the resources necessary for learning, what is learned often become short term.
As a parent we want our children to have a real academic performance and that is why I could suggest some things we can implement to help them concentrate when studying:
- Give them to understand that the priority at study time is that, divert as much as possible the attention to the TV or cell phone while they could be doing some kind of memorization or something that requires much more attention.
- To offer them a time of rest, where this could make use of the technology.
- Help them in the realization of the activities using resources such as books, newspapers, magazines, or any other that is not so involved the use of technology.
In the classroom, many times technological resources are handled, such as computers, and it is the role of the teacher to give them the appropriate use that allows them to receive the corresponding information about these technologies.
If we look further, nowadays the exaggerated use of technologies is causing a worldwide rupture of social exchange, children no longer want to go out to play and share soccer because they are playing video games or are on social networks.
And the parks have Wifi Zone, that the friends that a meeting is presented to talk and we can see how everyone is looking at their cell phone.
We also see how some parents give our children from a very young age technological tools just for us to do our activities.
It is really a pity how we are in a society where our main oxygen is technology.....
Let's put heart to all this, let's help our children today, they are the future of tomorrow.
