Gardens grow in the city ruins. Poems about survival in a fallen world.

In the ruins of a once great city, I grow a garden.
The soil is hard and rocky, but I make it fertile with my sweat and love.
I sow seeds of hope and joy, and watch them grow into beautiful flowers.
This is my oasis in the midst of despair – a place to find beauty in the world's destruction.
I look out at the cityscape and see only despair, but in my garden I find hope.
I am grateful for this place, where I can grow something beautiful amidst the ruins.

As the wind howls through the broken windows,
I plant my herbs in the rubble of a city.
The soil is gritty and red with dried blood,
but I know that it will be fertile ground for my plants.
I water them with rain that never comes,
and they grow tall and strong amidst the destruction.

The weeds grow tall in the cracks of the city walls
And ivy creeps up around the fallen bricks
Insects buzz and hum in the abandoned courtyards
And a warm breeze whispers in the leaves
This is my garden, this is my home
Amidst all of the rubble and ruin
I find peace and solace here, growing herbs
For all of humanity has vanished, fled to some other place
And I am alone, but not for long
Soon others will come, and they will rebuild
This city, this land, will be their home
And in the gardens, we will once again grow
Herbs to heal the wounds of a world gone mad
And flowers to soothe the hearts of broken people
For we are the last of humanity, and we will rise again.

This was a poetic tale from the city of Lazarus, A dystopian metropolis half sunken in the sea, along with ai art created with stable diffusion / Midjourney ai browser applications, inspired by the words of the poem. War and climate change took its toll on this and every other city we know. This is one of many short tales of a young woman ("the narrator") and her daily life surviving in the ruble of the modern world.
I am adding individual poems to a collection that I plan on eventually publishing into an ebook.

Thank you for reading.

💔Here are a few links to some of the other poems about the dystopian City of Lazarus:
