Using a random word generator to prompt my post - Which word did I get allocated?

Doctor.

What an interesting word to be allocated, "randomly", by a website I've never used before, after only reading a post by a fellow Australian, riverflows, about her infuriating visit to a doctor.

Interesting.

Is one website talking to the other?

Is my browser spying on me more than I realised?

Or is it just a random chance, an opportunity to ponder this word, doctor?

I remember learning, many moons ago, (not sure where) that the root of the word doctor is "docere". A quick Google tells me that Oxford Dictionary agrees with my memory and that this word I've been randomly assigned actually stems from Latin.

There's a language I'm never going to formally study.

When I learned this docere > doctor thing I also learned the actual meaning of the word docere: it means "to teach".

I don't know about the country you're in while you're reading this but the average doctor here is rarely "teaching" and is often "prescribing" some drug that most vaguely aware humans don't want to take and know is only going to mask the problem they came to solve.

I think I could gripe about the state of our "healthcare" system in Australia (that seems not that much better than most of the rich countries in the world) for... days. Doesn't seem like a good use of my time. Just like booking a doctor's appointment when I have a problem with my body - doesn't seem like a good use of my time.

Let me tell you instead what I dream of.

Source

I dream of a world where all humans have access to knowledgeable humans who understand how the body really works and teaches this knowledge to others at a price that the individual can afford.

I dream of a world where all humans have access to well-trained doctors, human beings, who care about the well-being of their patients first and foremost, and that is the reason they choose medicine as their profession.

I dream of a world where all humans have access to highly skilled doctors who are uniquely able to support said patients to heal their own bodies when something breaks.

I dream of a world where all humans learn and grow together, where healthcare looks like a partnership, a sharing of knowledge in a way that's sensible, sustainable and based in a holistic, scientific approach that keeps up with the latest research integrating new understandings quickly, easily and efficiently.

I pray for a world where we all get healthier together and where, more and more, we all know what it looks and feels like to thrive. 🙏🙏🙏

What an idea, you're into something there, I might try it 🙌🏼

As for doctor well I'm signed out to be honest. I try and heal myself where I can using natural therapies. The NHS currently is not worth the obscene amount we pay for it. I don't bother ringing the docs as you can never get an appointment and they generally don't appear to care.

Your much better off keeping health yourself and finding alternatives. We need to bring back the healing and natural medicine not the current big pharma sponsored fakes 🙏🏼

I hear ya. I love learning from people like Irene Lyon who are truly empowering people to heal their body from the ground up. To me, that's real medicine.

When I read that docere meant to teach, the question came to my mind if the word was really meant for doctors 🤣... when do they teach? Perhaps in the lecture halls of medical colleges. .....
In the clinics and hospital they just give commands prescriptions. The profession of doctor has become a business. I am not sure what exactly happens at your place but in my country the profession has gone corrupt. Doctors just prescribe irrelevant and unnecessary medicine just to earn the money to those pharmaceutical companies which give them heavy incentives in return.

Hey sister!
I like to think that the medical "profession" is a little more ethical here, and I think for the most part, most doctors are, however I think that there is just so much they don't understand. And the system they're working in is making it HARDER for them to do good work, not easier. I think it's a lose-lose situation currently. I don't love it, that's for sure.

The doctors are not really to be blamed in that situation where the system is designed in s certain way. I often discuss my medical conditions with a friend who is a doctor. She not only prescribes medicine but also explain me what and why. However I wonder if she would be doing the same with other patients when there is a huge number of patients waiting for their turn in a limited available time and not really ready to absorb the knowledge she may provide.

What an incredible dream. I would add that I dream that we educate children about medicinal plants, yoga, meditation and other systems that can help prevent disease and dis-ease!

What a funny coincidence too!

yes, yes, yes! I dream of that too. I'd add to that list: dance, play, and a deep understanding of how to regulate the nervous system somatically. Yes!
