What did I learn this month? | Hive Power Up Day.

I can hear the rain falling outside. It's lovely. It gives me reason to pause and reflect on the last month.

Is it just me or did it go oh so fast?

I learned things (last) month. Things both here on Hive and off. Useful things.

Let's talk about the Hive ones first.

I realised, just tonight, that if I want to spend more time engaging with other people's posts (reading, commenting, upvoting, reblogging) then I needed to make it easier and more enjoyable. I think I was accidentally trying to do it "right"? Whatever that means.

Tonight I tried something different. I tried an experiment. I opened one version of a feed and clicked on the first thing that looked interesting. It was good. Useful. Upvote-worthy. Reblog-worthy. So I did those things and then I looked for the next obvious, easy place to click.

I followed the easiest, most enjoyable thread that Ecency offered me. Sometimes I would see a (user)name in the comments section I recognised or that intrigued me. I'd click on them to see what they'd posted or reblogged most recently. And the stepping from one blog to the next, one user to the next, continued.

When I got bored by what I was seeing around me, I'd reload another version of the feed and start again, with whatever was easy of course.

This was fun. An easy way to use my resource credits and meant I was engaging with more people's posts much more easily than whatever hyper-controlled way I was trying to do it before.

I'm sure I learned more on Hive...

Oh yes! Samantha Smith helped me solve a puzzle that had been bugging me for ages: how to unpin a post I had created a couple of months ago and no longer wanted to be pinned to the top. (I had written it on Peakd, an interface I rarely use, and then looked at it every day since on Ecency and was blind to see what I was doing wrong!)

Off Hive, I think I learned oodles this month. I probably learn at least one new thing in my business probably every single day. I kind of wonder, actually, how my head doesn't explode; I challenge it so effing much to stretch and take in new info and do new things.

Amazing. Thanks brain. Let me take a moment now to acknowledge how utterly amazing you are. 💗😊🙏

While the rain outside slowly gets louder and louder, as the raindrops increase in number, filling and flowing over the top of our gutters, I continue to ponder the things I've learned this month. There have been a lot.

I've been teaching Human Design classes for beginners on a newish platform that's specifically for women over 40. As far as I can tell, most of the 28,000 members are in the U.S.

This is fine with me because I'd say half of my clients usually come to me from the U.S., almost all of them are women and many of those I end up serving 1:1 are in their 40's and 50's anyway.

So I've been running classes, something I'm completely capable of doing but have done very little of over the last decade, and have been absolutely loving it. It's a fun challenge, thinking about how to take thousands of women from (in most cases) zero knowledge of Human Design up to, well, more knowledge about Human Design 😜

I've run three Intro classes now and next week I'll run the Part 2 class for the first time. And since that one filled up within 48 hours of posting it, I'll run another two Part 2 classes over the next five weeks.

Since I get sick of repeating myself fairly quickly, as a general rule, I've already turned the Intro class into an online course so that others, outside of that private community, can buy it without my needing to teach it (again) and if I decide I don't want to ever run the Intro class again for this group of women then I can just direct them to the course.

Happy with this stroke of genius. Check out me learning new things 🙌

One last thing before I settle into bed and get lost in the sound of all that lovely rain:

I did way better with posting great posts this month that were loved and upvoted well by the Hive community. What did I do differently? Well, probably gave myself even more permission (again!) to ignore what my Love, the ever consistent, everyday blogger, @new.things does, and just posted when I felt like it.

Did I have something I really wanted to say? If yes, then I wrote it. I wrote it my way. I wrote with flow. I wrote with ease. I let the words fall out of my head and through my fingers to land on the page you see on your screen.

Easy. Enjoyable. Effective.

So expect more of that next month. That, and possibly more alliteration 😉

Did you do a Hive Power Up Day post this month? If you did, feel free to share a link to your post below (only after giving me some love here of course 😜). I'd love to read what you got up to.

I’ve been told crocodiles can grow up to 15 feet
but I’ve never seen one with more than four.

You're welcome @consciouscat. It was partly a strategy to remind me (and it fell out of my head) to come back and say to you that I think your revised approach is the right one. Because if being here's not good for you, it's not good for anyone.

Things are getting better in my little corner, and I plan for them to get betterer!

Be well!

This seems like a wise insight indeed.
