It's hard to let go of it, but I have no choice other than to release it so as not to cause any more harm. Adam said.

A rejected small figurine was thrown out of the house of the king of Prussia. The figurine became something so tempting and harmful in the house of the king. His daughter does not want to let go of it just because of its glowing beauty. The king's daughter finally threw it away but with a painful mind. Her heart became broken because she did not want to let go of the figurine.

One thing she failed to understand was the way the figurine behaves. She has never for once seen the sculpture the way people saw it to be, but had always seen it to be a decorative image. She has been told about how the image speaks, but she has not for once believed her father, the king. Even her elder sister had told her to let go of the figurine just because of the experience she had with the image. The figurine left its original position and whispered to me "Let me go to my owner!!! Drop me at the…" but I was unable to listen to the rest of what it had to say", her sister said. She could not believe her eyes and instead ran out of the house horrifically. Finally, they let go of it.

Adam was just six years of age. He was taking a nap with his mum after which he saw this good-looking figurine in front of him. He was not ready to take it, but after some thought, he decided to take it as it has no owner. Who might have left this pretty figurine rolling freely on the road? Adam asked himself. His mum was not in support of taking the figurine but after too much cry, he allowed Adam to take the sculpture.

Adam got home and kept it in a special place where he could reach. Adam was so excited to have this figurine. He cherished it more than anything else. His mum discovered that her son's way of behaving had changed. My son has always been left lonely, but with this figurine, things became different.

Patricia, Adam's cousin, who came visiting happened to hate this figurine. Who bought it for you? She asked. I saw it and decided to pick it. Adam replied while going inside to tend to his mum's call. Patricia was not herself as she was not ready to stay in the sitting room with the sculpture. As she was leaving the sitting room, the figurine winked at her. She was not too sure and drifted closer to the figurine just to clear her doubt. The figurine maintained its position. She thought maybe it was just imagination.

As she walked close to the inner door, she heard someone call her name, immediately, she looked back but saw no one. Maybe it's just my imagination, she said.

After two days, Adam took the figurine and began to play with it. He became glued to it. Patricia was angry seeing Adam play with the figurine. "How come you developed so much love for this figurine?" She asked. It gives me joy anytime I gaze at it or play with it, Adam said.

Hmmm… I can't tell you the hatred I have for this figurine, Patricia said.

Adam's mum woke up one morning and found Patricia missing after searching the whole nook and cranny. As she wanted to shout she saw Patricia behind her coming drenched by the rain, her body oozing out an offensive odor. What's this? Where are you coming from? Adam's mum asked. I only found myself in the dustbin. I did not know how I got there. Patricia said. This got Adam's mum perplexed.

That day went by and the following day, as Patricia was asleep, the figurine came in yet again to Patricia's bedside. It was just like a dream to her that she saw the figurine shining its eyes just like a monster at her. Immediately, she woke up but saw nothing beside her. Oh… it was even a dream, she said. Patricia still felt uncomfortable in the house just because of the figurine. Why do I have the feeling that this figurine was the one hurting me? Patricia said. She walked to the parlor where it was kept and gazed at it. I must throw it away at dawn.

Adam on the other hand had not for once seen his figurine the way Patricia saw it. His mum on the other hand had been in the dark as she had no idea what was going on.

Patricia went to the parlor intending to throw the figurine out of the house but saw the unexpected. The figurine had already dropped some ointment on the floor which caused Patricia to slide and fell flat on the floor. She broke her legs and one part of her face was swollen.

Adam's mum ran fast and rushed her to the hospital. While in the hospital, Patricia, with her swollen face, told Adam's mum "I do not like this figurine in the house, I think it is the cause of what has been happening to me". How are you sure of that? Adam's mum responded. I'm 100% sure, she replied. I will find out, Adam's mum replied.

When Adam's mum got home, she found the house untidy, Patricia's clothes scattered everywhere both in the room and the parlor. What must have caused this? She asked herself. After observing, she could not see the figurine anywhere, only to find it on her bed. What!!! Who might have dropped it here? She asked. She turned to Adam's room but heard the sound of someone tiptoeing. She turned and immediately, the sound was not heard. She turned her face yet again and heard the same sound. Adam!!! Are you the one there? She asked, only for Adam to answer her from his room, "I'm in my room mum".

She raised her face to take up the television remote only to see the figurine beside the DVD. She was surprised again and later believed what Patricia said. She asked Adam if he was the one who took it to the parlor, but he answered "No".

She kept mute and that night she had a nightmare. The figurine said to her "Take me to the back of the shrine, that is where my master is or else I will keep on tormenting everyone in the house except for your son, Adam". When it was morning, Adam's mum did not say a word to his son but went straight to the shrine with the figurine. She dropped it and left immediately. On her way back, she heard a voice saying "Thank you for bringing me here". She looked around but could see no one.

She bought a teddy bear for Adam just not to make him miss the sculpture. Adam was ok with that.

Now I can move freely in the house, Patricia said after recovering from the fall.

The figurine was like an alien in the house. She wanted to return at all cost to her abode. Some part of the story can be scary. Hearing words without seeing who was speaking. Nice story.

What a frightening take on the prompt, which sees 'objets d'art' brought to life in a fascinating way. However, the freestanding dialogue and lack of scene transition can make this tale confusing at a few points. We recommend reading the article How to Write Dialogue in Fiction for tips on structure. We hope this feedback helps! Thank you for sharing your story with us, and for your engagement with other members of the community.
