A Wednesday walk among books, nature, and sweet treats

Hello, awesome Hivers!

Although it is already Thursday, I will tell you about my little walk yesterday, because better a little late than never, right?

My son is still getting ready for his move to university and has been getting out of some books these days. Some he has donated, others he has given to friends, but he still has a lot left. And yesterday, he told me that he wanted to take a few to a library box that has been placed on a path near our home. He noticed it when he was walking with a friend a few days ago, so we went there.

SanLuis_Biblioteca Eco1.jpg

The library box has been placed in this walkway near the entrance to the Parque La Fila, which I have already told you about in my Wednesday walks in A wee hike in the afternoon. It has been there for only a couple of months.

SanLuis_Biblioteca Eco2.jpg

It's made of wood, and they've put a couple of wooden benches on either side of the library box. The initiative, as far as we could find out, is from one of the neighbors in the area, who has built the library box himself with the support of one of the local businesses that operate in a nearby shopping area. And apparently, it has been a success. People are going to take books. And most are returning them, according to a neighbor who was walking around the site and came over to chat.

SanLuis_Biblioteca Eco3.jpg

We left the books that my son brought, and we plan to bring more these days.

SanLuis_Biblioteca Eco4.jpg

I love initiatives like this that humanize places and make you feel that there are people who still care. And want to have a better quality of life for themselves and care about what they have around.

SanLuis_Biblioteca Eco5.jpg

We then walked a little way along the path, as we wanted to get to the shopping center that is down the street parallel to it.

And on our way, we were able to admire some small samples of how wonderful nature is, like these fungi. It has been a long time since I had seen such striking ones.

SanLuis_Fungi.jpg

There were also these small fuchsia wildflowers.

SanLuis_WFlowers.jpg

And these yellow ones, which were blooming in some trees in the area.

SanLuis_WFlowers2.jpg

Already when the path approached the area where the shopping center is.

SanLuis_WalkingPath.jpg

I noticed that there was a woodcarving on the side of the path.

SanLuis_Woodcarving.jpg

The chatty neighbor we had seen when we were dropping off the books had told us that we would see it and that it was made by the same person who made the library box.

SanLuis_Woodcarving2.jpg

At this point, we crossed to the opposite sidewalk to go to the shopping center. On the pavement, they were already setting up the vegetable market that usually takes place there on Thursdays. It is common in some areas of the city this type of market which is set up once a week with vegetables brought from Los Andes. And now that I think about it, I will have to visit one of these markets these days to make a post for #MarketFriday.

SanLuis_MercadoGochos.jpg

In the shopping center, after going to the pharmacy for a couple of medicines we had to buy, we couldn't help but go to eat ice cream.

My ice cream was dark chocolate with raisins and candied fruit pieces. This was for you and to celebrate your birthday Super Ed @tengolotodo ;)

SanLuis_MiramarIIceCream.jpg

And thus ends our walk this Wednesday.

This is my post for this week's #wednesdaywalk challenge hosted by @tattoodjay in collaboration with #makemesmile hosted by @elizacheng.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading.

Teens here in general are not fond of reading either, but it's nice to give them some options. And maybe, one day a change will happen. ;)
Thank you for stopping by :)

Woahoo, those are lots of books and they will be really helpful to others, I'm happy you are giving them out.

That path seems really quiet and calm, I love the flowers too and that wood across the road looks so cool too.

Please do well to keep my chocolate ice-cream 😍😍.

We have a similar mini library at our neighborhood park. I think it's a great initiative to encourage people to read.

jeje thank you for the ice cream picture and thought Super Eli!
I do love the book swap ideas that are getting more common, and love this one made in wood and the statue that he made, it reminds me of bat statue carved out of wood on the way to Raith lake which we saw again tomorrow!
And you are awesome, Rodrigo is taking after you with his kindness:)

What an awesome place to walk through Eli! That must be a very special person to think of this initiative plus then bring it to fruition. The carving is simply stunning as well, REALLY special.
You have reason to be proud of your son as not many young people would even notice this library box👌
Mmmm that ice cream cone is the perfect end to a lovely walk!

I thought the initiative of the person who did it was great, and I am even happier to see that the community is proud of the mini library box and that they take care of it and approach it if someone shows curiosity.
Thanks for the words about my son, and it's not because I'm a proud mother, which I am, hehe but he's awesome ;)
Happy Sunday, Lizzie 🤗

Hi, @wrestlingdesires! Thank you for stopping by and for the support. Very much appreciated :)

I also hope that more parks will follow the initiative. Creating reading habits that have been lost in time is very important for individuals and society, and this kind of initiative can encourage people to read. Cheers!

I bet you enjoyed your stroll. A community library box is such a great initiative. I like that the person who built it is using his skill and art (the statue) to support and benefit the community. I like too that the pieces are from wood, quite fitting for a nature park.
I should search around my community for a box. There are several books I could drop off. Lol!

It is a great initiative. And I too love the action of this neighbor, who is using his skills for the community, and to make a space more pleasant for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy the weekend!😊
