La Cabaña Alpina in Sopó

Yesterday while I was doing the collection post of my trip to Bogotá, I remembered that I still had a post in a draft from that trip for #MarketFriday. If you don't know what this initiative started by @dswigle is about, you can read more here.

The day we had a getaway in the outskirts of Bogotá to go to Zipaquirá to visit the Salt Cathedral, we made a stop on the way in a village called Sopó. We stopped specifically at a shop called La Cabaña, owned by one of the biggest dairy industries in Colombia called Alpina.

Alpina1.jpg

This place sells exclusively Alpina brand products, yogurts, cheeses, arequipe, etc.

Alpina2.jpg

From what I have been able to read on the site, Alpina was created many years ago by Swiss people who settled in Colombia.

I knew the products because, in Venezuela, you can find Alpina yogurts and arequipe.

Alpina4.jpg

I was surprised since I didn't know that they made so many different types of cheese. I had only seen Alpina Parmesan cheese in Venezuela, but they also made Emmental, Gouda, Camembert, Brie, and many other varieties in Colombia.

Alpina6.jpgA great variety of yogurts.

Alpina3.jpgA lot of cheese varieties.

Alpina7.jpgReady-made desserts with Alpina dairy products.

Alpina5.jpgAns ready-packed arepas.

So there was a wide assortment of products, and I would say that 95 percent of the products were Alpina brand. And the others were some wines and beverages of other brands.

Alpina9.jpg

The store is large. The day we went, there was no one there. It was during the week, and it is a place that Bogotanos visit on weekends.

Alpina8.jpg

In addition to the cheeses, we bought a good supply of mini arequipes. My son got very nostalgic when he saw them. I used to put them in his lunch box when he was little. But for a long time, during the worst years of the shortage crisis in Venezuela, they were no longer sold in the country. So my son took a few to kill the craving of the old days.

The site has large green areas and is designed to make it a family destination for shopping and spending time.

Alpina_Cafe.jpg

They have a cafeteria in the store, and we had a coffee. It was fine, nothing special. And coffee in Colombia is cheaper than here. The Cappuccino I had cost 5800 Colombian pesos, which at today's exchange rate is about 1.25 USD.

Alpina_Flowers.jpg

Before we left, I photographed these flowers thinking about #alwaysaflower.

And then we continued on our way to Zipaquirá, passing through the roads outside Bogotá, and going through the savannah that in this area near Sopó is full of farms and everything is very green.

If you were to ask me if it is worth going out of your way to go to La Cabaña, I would say no, because the products can be found in the supermarkets in Bogotá, maybe not all of them in one place.

This is my participation this week in #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle.

Thank you for reading.

I would love to visit that site @coquicoin 😻 The place looks so nice. The decor, the facade. I remember the Alpina yogurt very well. Delicious products 😋 Do you think if I worked there, would I get free cheese? 🤭 😅

Como si viajaras a Suiza desde Colombia! Qué curioso contraste 😊

Sí, es un gran contraste. También entre los quesos, porque producen muchos quesos de tipo europeo, pero también tienen una buena variedad de quesos más locales. Feliz domingo!

Columbia is really interesting, with the higher altitude and colder climate. I wonder if that is why they have so many different cheeses.

hehe the Arepas, yes yes I need to do!

Awesome shop, and I love the look of the savannah, green so I guess they have lots of rain.
I commented after I ate dinner Super Eli just incase you tempted us! Well I do have a coffee!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend 😁

Hello hello!
In Bogota rains frequently. And the savannah is beautiful and green. The city and its surroundings are on a plateau.

And speaking of coffee, I'm going to make myself one now to catch up here. Happy Sunday, Super Ed!

Seems like a really big space, but not much merchandise? I hope they don't lose money, it's a nice destination 😲

I don't think they lose money. I think the site is more of a place to promote the brand. It's nearby to one of their principal factories. And it's great for events, and they will surely do many on weekends.

Thanks for the support:) Happy Sunday!

I love it when you find an old friend (your Alpina brand!) while passing through someplace. I understand what you mean about the store. It is not worth going out of your way if you can get it in town. But, are the prices about the same? That probably is the same.

My kids love when we come across things they had when they were kids and no longer are available so easily. Brands go out of favor, or we have moved away from where they carry it. Different reasons. But, still, it is fun for them. It looks like an amazing store, so clean and empty! A weekend shop, yes? :)

I am still away, but, I want to read about the Salt Cathedral. Did you enjoy your visit there?

I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different indicators than the world does. It is not always about the wealth in money, sometimes money means very little when there is no value behind it. You cannot buy health although you can take care of what you have. Being educated isn't always about schooling, but acquiring knowledge and using it for the better good and happiness of the society you are living in. It is with great pleasure that I read through this and all of the posts, with these thoughts in mind.

Don't miss the small things in your life, they usually make no noise but can be indicators of bigger things. I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

My kids love when we come across things they had when they were kids and no longer are available so easily.

My son loves to come across things like this. Here, after the hardest years of the crisis, many companies with the usual brands left the country and the shelves were filled with unknown brands made elsewhere.

And yes, it is a store for the weekend and for events I think.

The Salt Cathedral is worth a visit. It's amazing how they could do something like that inside a salt mine.

And I so agree that education is in no way tied to wealth.

And at the end of the day enjoying the little things in life is what makes it more enjoyable.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you are enjoying your trip. Hugs! 🌸
