Hello Hivers and music lovers!

Today is Tuesday, at least it still is on my side of the world, and it's time to make my recommendation for the #ttt or #threetunetuesday initiative by @ablaze.

Last week I saw a couple of posts from @littlebee4 (who I invite to join the #ttt if you feel like it) about Havana that made me click, and I immediately knew what my recommendation for this week would be.

Buena Vista Social Club was a social club of the kind that abounded in Havana in the 40s and 50s before the Cuban revolution. It is also the name of a group of Cuban musicians from that era of the club who became famous in the late 90s.

In 1996 the Cuban musician Juan de Marcos Gonzalez and the famous American guitarist Ry Cooder gathered a group of musicians in Havana to record the album of the same name Buena Vista Social Club. A compilation of Cuban songs of different genres, son, boleros, and salsa.

The album was a resounding success, and later the documentary of the same title by the German filmmaker Wim Wenders made the group even better known. And the furor for traditional Cuban music and Latin music, in general, grew around the world.

Some of the musicians who participated in that recording and were in the twilight of their lives, after years away from music, resumed their musical careers. Many of those who recorded that album have passed away, but Buena Vista Social Club was and will be a reference in Cuban music.

If you like Latin music, I encourage you to listen to the complete album.

But for now, let's go with my choice of three tunes for this Tuesday.

Tune No.1 Chan Chan - Buena Vista Social Club

My first choice is Chan Chan, a song first recorded in 1996 for the album. The song is an original Cuban son by one of the members of the group known as Compay Segundo. At the time of the recording, he was 89 years old.

The song is about a couple, Cha Chan and Juanica, who go to the beach to look for sand for the house they were building.

Cuando Juanica y Chan Chan
En el mar cernían arena
Como sacudía el jibe
A Chan Chan le daba pena

Tune No.2 Veinte años - Buena Vista Social Club

My second choice is a Cuban bolero, a song from the 30s with music by the Cuban Maria Teresa Vera, Veinte años.

Many singers have sung this bolero. And Buena Vista Social Club's performance is beautiful, in the voice of Omara Portuondo.

Si las cosas que uno quiere
Se pudieran alcanzar
Tú me quisieras lo mismo
Que veinte años atrás

Tune No.3 El Cuarto De Tula - Buena Vista Social Club

For my last choice for today, put on your dancing shoes. There's a salsa coming up.

El Cuarto de Tula was recorded for the album Buena Vista Social Club.

El cuarto de Tula, le cogió candela
Se quedó dormida y no apagó la vela

This is my post to Three Tune Tuesday by @ablaze.

If you have made it this far, thank you very much for reading!

Enjoy the music, enjoy life!

Hehe. I really got inspired by your posts. I usually spend the week thinking about which songs to recommend on Tuesday, hehe. If you like music, you'll find it fun. You must recommend three songs, and use the tag #ttt, so those of us who participate in the initiative can easily find your post.

Have a good night! 😄😊

You're welcome, Super Ed :)

They were famous at the end of the 90s. If you like the music, look for the documentary of Wenders with the same name Buena Vista Social Club. Is about the recordings and the musicians in La Habana. And then when they showed in Amsterdam, and the Carnegie Hall in NYC. It is a cool film.

SUCH an iconic album. Our family has always been a big fan of Ry Cooder - what a consummate musician he is, able to dip into so many genres. He's done another one with Taj Mahal of late. This album always brings good memories, and definitely bought Cuban music to the world.

I'm so glad you have good memories of that album. I grew up listening to Cuban music since I was a child. My grandmother and her sisters would tell anecdotes of visits to Cuba, and Cuban music was always played in the house. That Buena Vista Social Club album was a brilliant idea by Ry Cooder and a musical gem.
Thank you for stopping by :) !PIZZA
