Some hobbies to retake

avatar

Hello awesome Hivers and Silver Bloggers

Today, I finally sit down to write my post for the #silverprompts about hobbies and crafts. The last few days apart from being busy, I have also taken some time for myself, and yesterday I met with some of the mums of my son's friends with whom I have made friends over the years. And curiously, this subject of hobbies came up. Since the life dynamics of many of us who do not have other children of school age will change. And with laughter and a few glasses of wine in between, we were making plans about what things we should start doing. Like getting together like yesterday more often, and maybe have a group to play cards or some other board game once a week. We even talked about taking some dance classes.

And since my son will leave home in a couple of months, one of the things that are clear to me is that from September I want to be very busy. But I also want to get back to doing some of the things that distracted me in the past and that for some reason or another, due to the dynamics of life, I left by the wayside.

Time to resume hobbies and crafts of the past

A few months ago, I took out my crochet needles again, and although lately, I haven't dedicated much time to it, It is one of the hobbies I would love to take up again. And it seems that someone else would like me to do it, judging by the joy he had playing with this infinity scarf that I wanted to take a picture of but he wouldn't let me.

Grogu_scarf.jpgGrogu

This photo of your nephew is for you @tengolotodo.

And at least, he let me photograph this pot holder I made some time ago.

I also did cross-stitch at some point in my life. And maybe it's time to take it up again and embroider Grogu's name, maybe I'll make him a cushion, what do you think?

Hobbies_1.jpg

Something I would like to learn

I would like to learn how to make bread. At home for a long time, my husband and son have at different times tried to make bread with sourdough. Some trials have been less disastrous than others, but none have been very successful. So my husband and I have been talking for a long time about doing a baking course together. There is a reputable school here that trains professional bakers, but they also run courses for amateurs. And maybe it's time to think about saving up to do it.

A hobby to achieve a goal

One of the things I have been passionate about all my life is traveling and getting to know other places, other cultures, and as far as possible, exploring the world. And I have been lucky enough to have been able to travel to many places. But in recent years this has become more difficult for various reasons. However. there is something I would love to do in these years that I would not call retirement since both my husband and I are still active and working. And here for now there is no retirement plan. It is to travel with a backpack and go to different destinations as I feel like it along the way. Just like my younger me did 25 years ago.

Yo_Eli.jpgMe in Italy, many many years ago

And among those backpacking trips, there is one that has been on my wish list for a long time. We've wanted to do the Camino de Santiago for a long time. Maybe 2023 is the right time to do it. But to go for it, besides the need to saving a lot, we have to start training. Hubby has been out of shape due to medical rest. But now he can start exercising again. And one of the hobbies we need to take up again is hiking regularly, especially with the possibility of having a nice trail only 5 minutes drive from home.

TrailSanLuis.jpgLa Fila Park, Caracas

These are few ideas that come to my mind talking about some hobbies I want to retake or try for the first time. And this is my entry to Silver Prompt 2: Hobbies, crafts, and retirement. If you would like to participate, you have until tomorrow, July 3 at midnight UTC to do so.

Thank you very much for reading!

This is nice that you managed to catch up with your friends, I can imagine a bit the discussions :) meeting more often is surely a good idea !

... as is the one about focusing more on one hobby to achieve goals ! I tried crochet several times, but even if I studied fabric design, I didn’t have great results ^^ but I still love the skills and style of this technic !

I wish you a enjoyable weekend :)

It was nice indeed to catch up with friends indeed. The crafts that I'm good at are the ones where I follow some instruction, that's why I like crochet and cross stitch. But I have never been able to learn to sew for example.

Have a nice weekend and thanks for stopping by :)

Thanks :)

I understand, I'm more into sewing, after that it depends if we make clothes or things for the house... but instinctively, I'm more into the " without instructions " team 😂

Hehe, that team of "without instructions" works well for me with other things but not with crafts 😂
Have a great day!

haha ! Thank you ☺️ Sure, it can be a bit tricky in the beginning, but after, it’s just following the flow of your instinct :)

5 minutes drive from home, then get your arses up there!!
He is so darn cute is my nephew, his eyes looking at you taking the picture jaja truly a rascal after my own heart!
Crochet him a cushion would be cool or an animal Super Eli :)

That's right, we have no excuse having that trail so close.
I want to make Ageese, your wee rascal nephew, a little mouse with a rope in crochet. I've already found a pattern, but I haven't had time to make it. I want to make him a blanket too. And the cross stiched cushion with the name will be later since I have to buy the fabric to do it. But I'll have to make him two, one that says Grogu and another that says Ageese, jeje

Yes you do need to see what animals you see on that trail!
Aha yes a mouse would be easy enough to do, especially if you have a pattern.
Although Ageese reminds me of a cheeky wee monkey...

This is so darn cute, Super Ed. I have to make one like this for Ageese with that cheeky look jaja. I'm sure you didn't make that one and it's Mrs. Tengo's handiwork.

I'm sure he would love monkeys. Rodrigo used to love monkeys and gorillas. I remember one time we went to NY when he was little and we took him to one of those shops where you pick out your teddy bear and put a beating heart inside and then dress him up. Rodrigo didn't want any of bear out of the hundreds that were there, and he settled on the only one Gorilla, and to our joy, because each outfit cost a few bucks, he just put on it some sandals, jaja. The gorilla is still somewhere in his room, hehe.

I am guessing would like these then.
hehe yep she is a dab hand at it, her family saw the one and all wanted one!
I would have been like Rorro too and taken the gorilla!

I love them all. I understand why everyone wanted one, I want one too, hehe :)
I'm sure you would have chosen the gorilla, and left him without clothes only with sandals too, jeje ;)

jeje yes and then they wanted the hats and the banana too!
Yes I would have just had the gorilla in sandals, why not, no need for clothes 🤣🤣🤣

Jaja!!!

no need for clothes 🤣

That was precisely Rodrigo's argument for not wanting to put clothes on him 🤣 so little my boy at that time, but even then, he was so assertive LOLOL.

Uff I had forgotten about the community contests, thanks for the reminder it made me want to participate.

One of the things I want to do is learn to knit, I don't know anything about anything, and that cat looks beautiful with your knitting.

You are going to walk the road to Santiago, you already thought about it, you wished it and wrote it down, these are the first steps, enjoy it in your mind and it will materialize faster.

Hi, Ana Maria, I like to knit, when I was young I used to knit with two needles. Now I like crochet more.

you already thought about it, you wished it and wrote it down

You are right. That's a way to decree things and is the first step to achieving them.

How is your brother doing? I hope he is better.
Abrazos y feliz domingo!

Thank you, sis! I think that as the years go by we realize that it is important to spend more time doing what we like and what makes us feel good and if we do it with people close to our hearts, so much the better.
Have a lovely evening, and I hope you had a great weekend 🤗😘

I have a crochet blanket hanging over the back of the chair in our lounge, and squares belonging to it. Unfinished. I used to knit and crochet. A lot.

Cooking and work have taken over. I am hoping that as things settle, I shall get back to it and at least finish that blanket!

Oh, and on bread making: it's all in the practise. Actually, you have reminded me, I have a draft post. It may happen later!

The unfinished crochet blanket is also in my repertoire, haha. I've thought of turning it into cushions at some point to use all the granny squares I already have.

The baking bread thing I suppose is in the practice, yep. In my fridge, there is sourdough that my husband uses from time to time, but he always ends up a bit frustrated. That's why we think we need some guidance on the matter, hehe. So looking forward to that bread making post ;)

And that's not all. I have a top. I need to unpick it and turn the yarn into table mats or coasters...🤣

It's always my dream to be an expert in crochet, but I haven't started it due to hectic sched. But one day, I will surely try. Anyway, I so love your work 😍😍😍✨

Those sound exciting especially the traveling part. I'm surprised you don't bake. I have a feeling that you do but I guess I was wrong. I hope you get to learn how to do it. It's good to know that your husband can exercise again. Good luck to you both :) You look lovely in your photo, btw :)

Thank you, Kuboy. 😊 I bake cakes and pies, but I don't make bread. And especially not sourdough bread which is the one I would like to learn to make.

Ah, got it. I thought it's kind of an automatic thing. Once you bake one thing, you can bake anything lol! I'm not familiar with the kinds of breads but I have tried sourdough a few times.

In the case of bread, it's not that simple, hehe. Sourdough has a lot of work behind it. You have to feed the leaven every day to keep it alive. And then finger cross to get the bread to rise and all that :)

I like your plans and ideas. And I like to make bread, it's very simple and much better than when we buy it. Cushion is a great idea, you are very talented and creative. Sometimes I dream about that time when the children will go their own way and I will have enough time to devote myself to my hobbies like you do now. Traveling to different destinations with a backpack would be awesome, I wish you a lot of money to make it happen. 😊

Hi Jelena!

I have sometimes made bread with those quick recipes one gets on the internet. But never bread with sourdough. My husband has tried it, but it never turns out completely well.

Traveling to different destinations with a backpack would be awesome, I wish you a lot of money to make it happen. 😊

Thank you for the wishes, I need them a lot to make it happen, hehe ;)

Have a lovely week ahead 🤗

Hi Arianni! He says hi to Tofu, hehe :)😺
Needles can be dangerous for children, but knitting needles are not so dangerous since they don't prick ;)

I love the idea of dance classes, that sounds like grand fun, especially ballet, I 🤔 think. I’d love to do ballet again, but Spanish dancing is also lovely. I think it’s hard, but also good, when kids leave home, you know that you’ve done something right and that they’re growing as people? Crochet is therapeutic, it’s a nice hobby (and so very useful).
BREAD, I love baking bread and although it’s not sourdough ( you need to chat to @fionasfavourites for that❤️), it works quite well (the recipe I use is on my blog)
A great website for breads of all kinds is https://www.biggerbolderbaking.com
Gemma Stanford is a cracking baker, and she has such quality recipes to offer for breads of all kind. ❤️🙃🤗💯💓💕
PS: I’m interested in learning how to do flatbread and crackers

I don't see myself at this age learning ballet, hehe. But when I was young I danced Spanish dancing (flamenco) and I would love to do it again and learn to dance tango.

Thanks for sharing that site. Yes, Fiona is an expert on sourdough bread, her posts always leave me hungry, and I want to learn how to make koeksisters. I have made bread a few times from some quick recipes on the internet and using yeast, but I would love to learn how to make good sourdough bread.

Thanks for stopping by, and you are very welcome to join the prompt with your hobbies if you feel like doing it 😊🤗🌹

This traveling of a thing is what I so much cherish. I love traveling to places but want to go to places like valley and places that have mountains and Forest.
