I purchased my first orchid around 2 months ago. Within a mere few days they stayed to die but why? I got onto YouTube and did some research.

Apparently I put these in my dark house which has a negative effect on these flowers as well as possibly giving too much water.

Apparently orchids like air on their roots
, I took them out their original plastic containers and re-planted them in coconut husk bags with stone and bark.

I was told to water these once a week only. That is correct in their original plastic containers however in this configuration need daily watering. I now take them outside daily in mottled sun and bring inside at night. This seems to be a success but time shall tell. These have to date done well and appear to be flowering. Nice.

I currently have 5 orchids, much like bonsai the colors and possibilities are endless, That been said I will more than likely collect many of these over time, such a lovely hobby too, therapeutic even.

How will they fare once it gets cold? They are very lovely, but would not fare well here in my house.

I cant imagine well. Ill.bring them indoors come winter and we shall see. They need mottled light loose roots, exposed to the air and water daily in my experience. Cheer$;)

Love these flowers, although I suck at growing them. I am a lazy gardener and leave nature to her own devices. And as you could have guessed, my orchids have since died. Lovely plants nonetheless! All the best.
