One of the causes of food shortages in the world today is the devastating effects of global warming and climatic change. In Africa, there's a rise of desertification and drought most especially in the Horn of Africa and the Sahara desert. These have really affected food production and other economic activities within the continent.

Apart from desertification and droughts, other parts of the world are experiencing flooding that is caused by the same global warming. This has been one of the challenges facing the United Nations and other bodies responsible for stabilizing global warming.

It should be noted that to savage global warming and climatic change completely, it'll take billions of dollars and some special orientation on how to conserve nature and other natural habitats.

Climate change could cost the US federal budget about $2 trillion annually by the end of the century.
In addition to this:

The analysis by the Office of Management and Budget, which administers the federal budget, also said the U.S. government could spend an additional $25 billion to $128 billion each year in such areas as coastal disaster relief, flood insurance and crop insurance.Source

Just imagine the some of money that moves out the federal budget of the United States for tackling climate change annually and imagine what other countries of the world and some private as well as non-governmental organizations spend to savage global warming and climatic change, then you'll appreciate any individual who has a philanthropic heart towards the betterment of the world rather than any personal aggrandizement.

On Wednesday, one of the most expecting news was announced by a philanthropist who has ever been after reclaiming the environment from the devastating hands global warming and climatic change. The philanthropists name is Yvon Chouinard. According to him, instead of continuously taking from nature, he wants to give back to nature.

Instead, he, his wife and their two children agreed to transfer all of Patagonia’s voting shares, or stock that gives the holder voting rights, in the company to a trust in charge of ensuring the brand’s environmental values are respected.
All of Patagonia’s non-voting shares have been transferred to a non-profit body dedicated to fighting against climate change and nature protection and conservation. Company profits will also be donated to the non-profit.Source

In the announcement, Yvon Chouinard said that him, his family and the Patagonian board have agreed to transfer the company to a Nonprofit Organization as part of their contribution to fight against climate change and global warming.

This is his statement:

“Earth is now our only shareholder,” Chouinard wrote in an open letter on Wednesday posted to Patagonia’s website.Source

Only men with the heart of gold can give up a company that's highly productive for the seek of returning nature back to its former state or close to its former state.

The information of handing over the company to save the planet earth was confirmed by a tweet by him as seen below:
https://twitter.com/patagonia/status/1570151257112969216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1570151257112969216%7Ctwgr%5Ed98b437b1375d9bf266df4873d999463723643c1%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.aljazeera.com%2Fnews%2F2022%2F9%2F15%2Fpatagonia-owner-yvon-chouinard-gives-away-company-to-save-planet

Prior to the handing over of the Patagonia for savaging climate change, Yvon Chouinard usually gives 1% of the company's revenue for Climatic Change and now he said one percent isn't enough for that purpose, which led to the new decision of transferring everything to the Nonprofit Organization to hand issues relating to climate change and global warming.

Truth be told, if the rich half of the world will have the same mindset like Yvon Chouinard, people in Pakistan, India, Ethiopia, Eritrea and other cities suffering from flood, severe heat and desertification will be hopeful that it'll be better next year.

I'll conclude by saying that selflessness is what the world needs right now, people who'll not put themselves in from but the betterment of the entire world.

A big thanks to Yvon Chouinard and the board of Patagonia for their selfless decision to make the world a better place.
