Russia releases 10 foreigners captured in Ukraine: Saudi Arabia - A step towards peace

Hello InformationWar platform! It's another time to share some news about Russia-Ukraine war and to inform you guys that there's still hope for those in Ukraine as the war surpasses 200 days.

Some few months ago, it was reported that the Russians government had arrested some foreigners in Ukraine who are believed to be fighting for the Ukrainian military and most of them were sentenced to death by a court in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), one of Russia’s proxies in eastern Ukraine.

Immediately after their arrest, the international community condemned the arrest and talks were held for the prisoners of war to be released to their various countries. Although, the deliberations towards their release felt abortive, which led to serial negotiations by both the US, UK and some other nations whose citizens were among those arrested in Donetsk.

It should be noted that the Saudi Arabian government have announced the release of 10 foreigners who were prisoners of war in Russia and they've arrived Saudi Arabia today.

Ten prisoners of war from countries including the United States and Britain have been released and transferred to Saudi Arabia as part of an exchange between Russia and Ukraine, the Gulf kingdom said on Wednesday.
The release came following mediation by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, “in continuation of [his] commitment to the humanitarian initiatives towards the Russian-Ukrainian crisis”, the Saudi foreign ministry said.Source

The Saudi Crown Prince have been and is still in the business of helping victims of the Russia-Ukraine war in his humanitarian way and today's efforts has marked a epoch in the history of modern diplomacy.

He has been in the forefront in the mediation and release of the 10 foreigners and making this come through today has shown that there's hope for dialogue to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.

It should be noted that the Saudi Crown Prince has a cordial relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and as a long standing member of OPEC, they've both worked together for a very long time.

The group includes five British nationals, two Americans, a Croatian, a Moroccan and a Swedish national, the ministry said in a statement, adding that a plane carrying the prisoners landed in the kingdom.
The Saudi statement said they had arrived from Russia and that Saudi authorities were “facilitating procedures for their safe return to their respective countries”.Source

With the confirmation of their safe arrival to the Saudi kingdom, the next step is for the Saudi Arabian government to facilitate their safe return to their various countries. With this the whole world can be rest assured that these former prisoners of war are now save and their safety is guaranteed.

Both Ukrainian and Russian forces have captured hundreds of enemy fighters since the start of the conflict, with a handful of prisoner exchanges having taken place.
The head of the United Nations human rights mission in Ukraine said earlier this month that Russia was not allowing access to prisoners of war (POWs), adding that the UN had evidence that some had been subjected to torture and ill-treatment that could amount to war crimes.Source

With evidence from both the UN and other investigation agencies, it has shown that most prisoners of war in Russia are being tortured and subjected to all forms of ills that are not in consonant with the international humanitarian laws, leading to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

It's high time, we look deeply into war crimes committed by both Russia and Ukraine in the past seven months, remember that every life that have been taken that's not in consonant with the international humanitarian laws, should be given justice.

Thanks to the Saudi Crown Prince for his efforts in making sure that those prisoners of war were released, he still owes the entire world one more assignment and that is to meditate and see that the war between Russia and Ukraine ends in soonest.
