HOW MY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WENT || FULL GIST!

The post is long overdue but I guess it is never too late to share a memorable experience, especially if it’s a promise. I promised to share this on my birthday, but I got caught up in a lot! I will gist you all about it, ride with me.

First of all, I would love to thank my Hive family for the massive love shown to me on my birthday which was exactly a month ago. I don't even know the choice of words that can express my gratitude. I am truly grateful and I pray God blesses you all in multiple folds. Thank you so much!♥️

THE GIST

---

The day started in the midnight, because I definitely did not sleep early. Even on a normal day, I don’t sleep so early, not to even talk of a special day like my birthday. Calls, WhatsApp messages and text messages started entering by 12am and minutes after. I think it is very beautiful for people to put you in mind and show you they care, even if it’s a special day. It’s probably by design to receive all the love or compliments on your milestones, but still, I appreciate anyone that remembers and even care enough to drop a message for me on my special day.

The week of my birthday was the week my final examination started, but I was lucky enough to not have exam on this particular day (it was even on a Friday,to add😌). It isn’t like I had any special or specific plan, but then, I just liked the idea that I would have all the day to celebrate, without thinking of my examination.

In the morning, I took my bath early and wore a simple shorts, new shirt I gifted myself and looked as pretty as any birthday girl would😌. I must mention that my family members’ call woke me from my sleep. They had all gone to lagos for my uncle’s 20th remembrance, but I couldn’t, because of my examination. It was a full house over there and it was so beautiful when they all joined their voices together to sing for me and passed the phone to one another to pray for me after.

I was home alone, my cousin had gone to school for her examination. I spent the entire morning lying on my bed taking calls, reply text messages, replying WhatsApp messages, replying statuses and all of that. I did this for a while, and before you know it, birthday girl was dozing off😂😭 @olujay’s call brought me back to life😂 He wished me a happy birthday and even sang me a birthday song🥹 In addition, he sent me birthday cash gift and I think that was very kind of him. Thank you again @olujay 🫶

A while after, my cousin got back from school and soon after that, @starstrings01 arrived at my hostel. He did disappoint guysss🥹🥹 He brought the most thoughtful birthday gifts! Can you even guess?? I guess not😌. He got me a journal with my nickname ‘pearl’ inscribed on it and and Oraimo earpods. Guyyyyssss, I was grinning from ear to ear, I was so so happy, because I have wanted those things for a while now.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that he added a note in the journal, a handwritten note!!! Call me old school, but then, handwritten notes >>>>>>>>>

My cousin stepped out some minutes later, but I needed to ask her something, so I was about going in search for her at my hostel mate’s place, not knowing I was about to encounter another surprise. As I opened the door, I saw her coming with a cake🥹

Honestly, I never knew I would get a cake that day. I wanted to get myself one but I couldn’t, so I already took my mind off it. Apparently, it was her and @starstrings01 that planned the whole cake thing, and they got me, honestly😂🙈. She brought the cake it, and they both sang me a birthday song. I didn’t even know how to react at that moment, I was dumbfounded but I was so happy and definitely so grateful for doing that for me.

I proposed us making stir fry spaghetti to celebrate the day, and honestly, that dish is a lot, especially when you are making a large quantity. I volunteered to cook it because my cousin was quite exhausted and tired, but we went out together to get the ingredients though. We got chicken, more spag, vegetable oil, carrots, green pepper, green peas, hotdogs, etc.

After our shopping, we were both exhausted at this point, but I guess the excitement of the whole birthday thing was giving me all the adrenaline that did wonders😂. I didn’t sit, I just went straight to the kitchen to begin all the preparation. Starstrings had been waiting for us since, and was looking like he was bored already, so I got him to work too😂😌. I showed him how to cut the green pepper, the green peas and the carrots, he was and at the end, he did a great job (although, he got help from my friend that came around later😏)

I was meant to also travel to Ibadan that day because the next day was my brother’s convocation at Ilorin, kwara state and the whole family was going to travel very early the next morning. I had no choice but to go that day, and there was still a lot to do. Thankfully, my friend came around and helped out and to cut the long story short, the food came out really nice and everyone enjoyed it.

Sorry, I don’t have pictures, because I was in haste and didn’t remember to take any. The whole cooking thing finished later than I thought it would, and my mom was getting worried. Some friends even came around in the evening, but I couldn’t be with them for long. We just served them the meal and I told them the situation on ground, which they understood well.

On a brighter note, they still continued the celebration after I left, because it was a full house and there was another celebrant in the house. I was actually glad for that, and it made me feel better about the whole situation.

I couldn’t eat my food, I just packed it with my luggage, took a shower, put some things in order, and headed to Ibadan from Abeokuta some minutes to 8 p.m.

Trust me, I know it was risky, but I didn’t have an option. I couldn’t stab going for my brother’s convocation. Starstrings was kind enough to see me off to the park that night🥹❤️ My mum had been calling me, but I was too scared to pick her call. I knew she might be worried and start overthinking things, so I called her back only when I got into the bus. My dad called as well and I told them both that I was on my way already. They scolded me a bit and yeah, I understand that🌝

I got home minutes to 11, and they were both already waiting for me at the bus stop. They scolded me for arriving that late😩, they were worried for my safety and all of that, and again, I understood them perfectly and apologized. Their anger didn’t last a minute because they were very happy to see me, and also because I told them I had gist😂😂. I told them about how the whole day went, why I left school that late, the gifts I got, and so on. When we got home, I brought out my plate of stir fry spag and we all ate it together.

The next morning, we headed straight to Ilorin for my brother’s convocation ceremony and it was very nice. I met some of his friends as well. Here are some of the pictures from the ceremony.

We were to go back home the same day after visiting his hostel and sharing food to his neighbors and friends around. After leaving his hostel, he followed us to a nearby supermarket, where he got some things for us to take home. I followed him in, while my mom and dad stayed in the car.

Something unexpected happened here…

I forgot to carry my handbag into the store because I was told to drop it at the entrance when we initially entered. My brother had gone back to his hostel and we were far away from Ilorin when I realized that I had forgotten my handbag at the store. I was so shattered because it contained my small phone (which had my hotline inside it), my charger, and my mom’s power bank. I wanted to cryyyy, ‘cuz I was thinking how I could be so forgetful like that. My battery was already low, I couldn’t even listen to music to calm my head.

I informed my parents and after scolding me as expected, we quickly called my brother to go retrieve the bag. After such a long day, I felt bad for causing him trouble.

To cut the long story short and not bore you, I couldn’t use my phone for about 30 hours+ because the spare cable I bought by the road side to stand in for the one I forgot, was so fake. It was discharging my phone and I felt so scattered. I couldn’t reply my texts, write my hive posts, reply customers, etc.

My brother sent the bag through a commercial bus the next day, but I couldn’t get it until the morning of the following day, because he arrived town late in the night. I was so sad I cried, but at the end of the day, I got my bag back and even a jotter. My brother’s friend sent me a copy of his convocation jotter alongside my forgotten luggage. That was very thoughtful and it did put a smile on my face after the whole frustrating situation.
