Have you ever gotten overwhelmed by the fact that you have a lot of tasks to do and they are all coming to your head at once, and you got so burdened by them that you don’t even know where to start from?

Personally, I hate having so many piled tasks because of the way they get to me when they all rush into my head at once. It gets so overwhelming that I might not even know where to start, and I might end up procrastinating on those things. This definitely might not apply to everyone, but I am really curious to know how others handle it when they have multiple tasks. I threw the question at a friend of mine, and he actually shared a thoughtful method that he claimed works for him.

He said he ranks his tasks in this manner;

  • Important and urgent
  • Important but not urgent
  • Not important and not urgent

It actually made sense because this will naturally give you a sense of direction and urgency to carry out those tasks and will even help in organizing those tasks according to how important and urgent they are. As efficient as this method might sound, the issue is still that, at the end of the day, it still takes a determined and intentional person to actually make good use of the method. Imagine that after ranking your tasks, you still don’t take a step to do the things that need to be done. Nevertheless, I still think this is a good method to actually evaluate our tasks in order to be more productive and efficient.

I also read in a book titled ‘Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy that one of the best ways to go about doing your tasks efficiently without procrastinating is by listing them out from the most tedious to the least tedious. The most important tip that was recommended in this method is to start by doing that first task that is very tedious and on which you would most likely procrastinate. How brilliant does that sound to you? Technically, by doing the most tedious task on your list, it gives you this sense of achievement that makes you want to do more, and before you know it, you have bounced on your other little tasks, doing them one after the other and successfully having the most productive day or week. Then, you can go ahead and treat yourself to something nice for a job well done.

Well, to end this piece, I will like us to all take note that these methods I mentioned above, and even any others you deliberately look up online or stumble upon somewhere somehow, will all be useless if you don’t take ACTION. If we want to be real with ourselves, we’ll know that’s the most important step to making a change happen. No matter how much you rank your tasks or identify your most tedious task, if you don’t have the willingness to get up and take action, you’ll just keep moving in circles and getting angrier with yourself.

So, basically, for a change to occur and for you to become a better and more productive individual, all you simply need to do is take action. I understand it is not as easy as it sounds, but I hope you find the strength to start and, most importantly, the morale to keep going.

  • Importantes y urgentes
  • Importantes pero no urgentes
  • No importantes y no urgentes

I have had similar situations happen to me and it is a bit frustrating. Now I know I'm not the only one.

yes sis, we are in this together. I hope we eventually get to the point where we have full control of what happens around us and not get overwhelmed by them.

Organizing activities in the way you described is super helpful!

I read something similar in some of Stephen Covey's books. Love the concept

Oh wow. Probably my friend read it from these books as well.

It is indeed a very reasonable technique
