Blind Leading The Blind

I thought selling a car would be easy a show hard can it be to fill in some forms. I am on day 3 having visited the Licensing department 3 days running and even though it is still not completed I have actually got somewhere. I thought you just submitted a change of ownership form along with a fee and you are all done. This was like trying to work out a difficult jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces.

I need the title proving that I am indeed the owner which I understand yet I never had that piece of paperwork ever. The car was originally financed and even though was paid off more than 3 years ago don't recall seeing any such paperwork.

Why couldn't the licensing department have told me that on day one that the title holder is still the bank is beyond me and has taken 3 days to get this far. Firstly today I had to go and make a copy of my drivers license and Identity document for an eye watering $3 knowing it only costs cents to make a copy.

I was worried about the location as these types of Government centers somehow attract the worst kinds of society. The car park is full of people who have no right being there and are only there to try and scam you and feels as though you are running a gauntlet whilst holding on to all valuables. I am by no means an easy target and you feel for when a female has to get this type of admin work done as it is not safe by any means.

Cutting a long story short I was told to come back as was informed the bank was still the title holder of the vehicle. As I stated this was paid off over 2 years ago and have no clue why they haven't forwarded the papers on. When I spoke to the bank you are supposed to request these which is news to me. This will now delay the entire process by 1 week and unfortunately need to go and do the gauntlet yet again.

Nothing is easy these days as there is always some type of road block when you need to get something done. What I find bizarre is I am trying to go the legal route yet in the car park outside I could organize a drivers license and most likely process the papers I need bypassing the system for a fee. The only reason why there are so many people outside is because there is money to be made servicing the government employees inside where everyone gets a cut. You actually leave there feeling dirty as the place reeks of corruption and shady deals.

This is why I usually just trade my car in to the place that I am buying a new one. Then they have to handle all of that. It is a pain over here and I am sure it is even worse over there. I don't think you get as much money as you might selling it privately, but not having the headache is worth it!

Tend to agree with you after what hassles I have seen this week. I didn't plan on buying another vehicle but if I do it wont be via dealership as repos at auction will be 30% under retail. The repos will have warranty and service plans so there is no risk.
