So Where From Here For Hive?

source

This is an image form @dalz.shorts post yesterday and what is interesting to see is when we all started and how the blockchain has grown. This may look fairly straight forward to many just looking at this, but their is history here and is not so cut and dry.

In the beginning under another name that blockchain had no funding so growth was not what it may have been. I joined just before the 1 Million member was signed up in March 2018. I was number 828 518 and there may have been loads of accounts around how many were alt accounts formed by who was already here?

I think what is more of interest to us all is what has happened since the hardfork where we got rid of the handbrake and went solo giving birth to Hive. That was March 2020 from my recollection or in that time frame and looking at that date had 1.4 million accounts. Looking at this chart we kind of stagnated at that point for nearly 1 year which is not a bad thing as it was more about making things right.

In the last 6 months we have seen the numbers grow by over 60 percent which I suggest has a lot to do with Splinterlands sudden explosion. It doesn't matter what app brings on new users as they all are joining Hive in some form of another even if they don't know it.

It takes time for an app or a blockchain to get the recognition they deserve as it is the development than will catch the attention of everyone outside. Splinterlands went from virtually nowhere to something within a very short period of time and this is how it always seems to happen. Hive having 2.4 million accounts could easily double within the next year or take another 4 years to achieve this figure.

Knowing what we know on here and how much developing is going on in various apps/tribes and new games I would think it has to be the former being closer to the next 12 months than the 4 year mark. Just within the last 7 days 128 new members have signed up to @leofinace alone and imagine when Project Blank is operational how many that will bring in.

The Network effect is somehting @taskmaster4450le mentions on a regular basis and we can now see how this could change how Hive grows over the next 12 -18 months. The more people involved with more apps being developed will speed up the growth process that you just cannot compare to what we have seen before. This all takes time to get the process to happen and with the numbers we are seeing now this should start to snowball far quicker than what we have seen in the past. Who knows instead of doubling over the next 4 years we could easily be 5 times or even 10 times bigger. The network effect is that powerful and cannot be underestimated.

How can we have that many accounts but only 16k active users? That is a LOT of accounts per user ... perhaps we have a churn issue where people try it out and then give up?

Account numbers don't really mean anything. How active they are does. Plus I feel a lot of these accounts where created for people for front end games in which they won't ever even know what Hive is lol

There are people with thousands of bot accounts for splinterlands.

But how many active daily users does Facebook have in relation to the total amount of accounts?
