Sportstalk Curation Showcase

This week I was hoping for a bumper week forgetting we are now sandwiched between Christmas and New year so the Sportstalk tribe is not exactly busy. Next week I will do the best of 2021 with posts that stood out and it would be great to share them again. I have 3 or 4 still in the memory banks and it will be good fun revisiting some of them.

The idea to highlight posts from the week is to not only show what is happening in sports, but showing the authors in their best light. All of these posts are live meaning they all fall within the 7 day window of curation at time of posting. A follow would be appreciated if you find a particular author of interest.

Offside of the Law - The ultimate football prison XI

I actually enjoyed the topic of this post that @talesfrmthecrypt has put together as football is one sport that has all walks of life playing it. If we tried to make up a cricket or rugby prison team we would struggle. This would be down to many different reasons like education and upbringing. There is a different class of person whether we like it or not playing various sports.

One has to just look at the list compiled as there are some serious crimes here and not petty stuff. Attempted murder and rape is right up there whilst others like Joey Barton have been given a break in life to make something of themselves but have failed miserably. Money doesn't buy you class and he is the prime example of the image portrayed by footballers in the press. Why on earth someone would even consider him worthy of managing a team is even more ridiculous.

Football Styles And What They Say About Your Country's History

@amirtheawesome1 raises the ideas that nations have different footballing styles due to other influences. I think money ,climate and popularity play an important role into how the National team develops.

One can see how money has affected a country like England and why the National team is not very successful. When the top players in the Premiership are foreigners it may raise the standards, but they are not English. Other sports have a limitation on how many foreigners can play in a team which protects local players. Until this happens the English team will always struggle. This is all down to finances and nothing else.

Rivaldo, a Brazilian soccer wizard!

@mvl2304.sports this week writes about the great Brazilian footballer Rivaldo. I used to enjoy watching certain players and Rivaldo was one of those. I enjoy reading about the careers of players more than the matches themselves as it tells more about the individual and how successful they were. Rivaldo I knew was a Brazilian who played for Barcelona and seemed like he was there for years. Any player who averaged a goal every other game tells a lot about a player. 1033 games with 466 goals is a record to be proud of as there are not many players who can maintain such a scoring streak playing for multiple teams.

I would like to thank the sporting community once again for staying active and posting such high quality posts.

Have a great New Year and will be back again with a blockbuster of the top posts from 2021 next week. This is a post I am looking forward to as there were so many good ones over the last 12 months.

Thanks for the shout out mate.

Now you've got me thinking about whether I could do one for cricket. I guess we've had a fair few for match or spot fixing in recent years and there was always former England allrounder Chris Lewis who went to prison for smuggling cocaine but like you say I don't think I'd have the options like you do with football!

I enjoyed @talesfrmthecrypt and his post too. It reminded me just how much I hate Joey Barton!

Haha, you know what though, guys like Joey Barton have made a career out of being hated. If he wasn't a thug and general annoyance he'd just be a 2nd rate midfielder who we'd already have forgotten about. Goes to show that there really is no such thing as bad publicity!

Man that is so true! I remember Joey Barton vividly but no one will talk about Danny Guthrie who was used more in midfield than Joey during his time in Newcastle
