Adjustments in this new work environment
Hello Hivers!
It's been a while since I made an update about what's going on in my life. That's why I thought of making a post about my life in the past few weeks.
As expected, the shift from being a freelancer to a full-timer at a job has a difference. Now, I have to comply with a specific time in a day to do my work. Having a full-time job means that I'm expected to work within that 8-hour time in a day; in my case, that's 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Our lunchtime is between 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. One major adjustment I am making is waking up at 6:00 AM because I need about 1 hour and 30 minutes to travel from my house to our office. My residence is quite far from the office and the distance I have to walk from my house to the MRT station is quite long. The same goes for my office from the MRT station. In total, I had to walk for about 25 minutes during the entire period of me going from my home to my workplace; however, if I'm in a rush then I can walk faster and reduce that time to 20 minutes.
Another adjustment that I did because of this shift is the timing of my lunch. I'm used to eating at around noon like everyone else, right? However, since our work starts at 9:00 AM, our lunchtime was moved 1 hour later than that. At first, I felt really hungry before lunch time but because I didn't have a choice I simply forced myself to transition to that routine. I'm already used to this kind of timing.
Probably the biggest adjustment that I made in this transition was the need for me to talk to people who are involved in a project that I'm working on. I'm not used to this work process during my time as a freelancer. Now, I have to personally discuss with many people or groups a specific matter that I'm currently working on. I have to make a lot of emails and graphical presentations of the topic that I'm discussing with the team to be able to communicate much better with them. Now, I have to think of ways to effectively deliver the message that I wanted to relay to other people involved. This is entirely different from what I do during my freelance jobs which in most cases is that I work alone.
So far, I'm loving the challenge of my day-to-day work life in the office. I think that I have a lot to learn and I'm very eager to learn more about my trade and the skill I need to be a better communicator.
I will be providing more updates soon. I hope you are all having a great weekend. Cheers!
