This Hearty Bowl of Lor Mee is Worth the Queue

avatar

Lor Mee is a noodle dish with a bold flavor and an interesting texture. If you can appreciate its unique taste, you’ll surely enjoy this one. It’s delicious and packed with a variety of toppings, which I always look forward to whenever I visit my favorite hawker stall at Golden Mile Food Centre.

Although there aren’t many stalls that sell this dish, some, like the Keng Heng Whampoa Teochew Lor Mee stall, have dedicated their entire business to it. They specialize exclusively in Lor Mee, and that’s why I enjoy ordering from them. They have truly mastered their recipe, and it shows in the quality of their food.

The uncle preparing the dish works quickly, but the demand is so high that there was already a queue when I arrived. It’s always a good sign of quality when people are willing to wait in line, and of course, I was one of them!

There are three price options: SGD 4, 5, and 6, making it easy to choose when ordering. I usually go for the SGD 5 version, which I find just right.

The great thing about Golden Mile Food Centre is that, no matter how crowded it gets, there always seem to be available tables. That’s because most customers are here purely for the food—they eat and leave as soon as they’re done.

1000012692.jpg

Just look at these thick egg noodles as I lift them from the rich, dark gravy—you’ll need a firm grip on your chopsticks to handle this dish! It’s hearty, heavy, and incredibly satisfying.

1000012684.jpg

I'm really enjoying the toppings in this dish. For just SGD 5, I’m getting plenty of fish and meat. No wonder they have long queues—the generous portions and the care they put into each serving make it well worth the wait!

My favorite topping is the fish skin! Dipping it in vinegar and adding a bit of dark gravy makes it taste even better.

Overall, this Lor Mee was a satisfying and hearty meal, packed with generous toppings and rich flavors. The long queues are a testament to the stall’s quality, and I can see why so many people keep coming back. If you’re a fan of thick, flavorful gravy and well-balanced textures, this is definitely a dish worth trying!

LOR MEE FOR LIFE!!!

In Hong Kong, we have something similiar...we call it Lo-Lo. "Lo" mean's "to mix" in cantonese. Basically a type of street food where you get cold or hot noodles as a base, you choose your sauce, you choose your fillings (dumplings, veggies, fish balls, other small seafoods). You can buy these Lo-los for like $3-$10. Have you seen em before?

I google lo-lo and I got this, is this correct?

Over here, we have a popular breakfast food... We call it Economic Bee Hoon. Noodles is the base then we build it by choosing from different toppings 😁 While reading your comment, I'm imagining it to be like this.

Not quite but it's very similar to your search results.

Normally when you go to a street vendor in HK, they will give you a medium sized food grade see-through plastic bags, where you can choose to have plain stir fried noodles, or even ramen noodles as a base. Then you start loading up on fishballs, prawns, chicken, or even just veggies. Then you would squirt some soya sauce, then our Cantonese specialty Chilli oil, then you put some more squid, some more fishballs, some more garnishes like diced fried scallops, or crushed peanuts, or sesame seeds on top.

Lo-Lo!!!!

I am dreaming of tasting the best noodle too. Here in the Philippines, it is a challenge finding an authentic Noodle house.

I really like noodle dishes because of the texture, it's just so fun to slurp and eat. I hope you'll be able to visit Chinatown in Philippines. Saw vlogs about the food their and they say it's good even for international standards.

I tried some in Chinatown here in the Philippines, Binondo is the name. Some are truly delicious and the noodles are manually made.

Of course it is.
And many of the dishes we currently eat in Venezuela have a strong Chinese influence.
