Curator Cat Considers: Inflation and The Alarming Rise in the Price of Cat Food!

Greetings Fabulous Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia and surrounding areas!

I hope your weeks are off to a good start and that everybody is healthy and well!

Whatever will happen next...?

This Uncertain World!

Earlier today I overheard the Dad-Hooman talking about going to the grocery store to look for cat food and he observed as how a can of my favorite cat food had suddenly increased in price from $0.79 just a few weeks ago to $1.29!

That's ridiculous!

Evidently there is some kind of cat food shortage or there are some supply chain problems and the demand for cat food is such that the shelves are often empty and maybe if people are hoarding for their feline friends.

Regardless, the long and short of it is that the local grocery stores have really increased the price of cat food!

Should I be worried? Am I going to starve?

The humans assure me that that's not going to be the case and that they will definitely continue to buy cat food for me. However, we might have to switch to the cheap store brand as opposed to my favorite kind. Not sure how I feel about that!

But that seems to be the world we live in these days. The cost of everything goes up and up, and people's ability to make enough money from their work to fund these price increases seems to be falling a bit short.

The thing that's a bit squirrelly here is that an increase from 79 cents to $1.29 represents a 63% increase, which is not even in the same Universe as the recently released announcements that inflation now is "about 10-12%."

I know my Hoomans are worried. I would be, too, if I were the one in charge of buying cat food!

They both work at home which I like very much because there's plenty of time for ear rubs for us cats, but they're often talking about how we live in a time where self employed people are making less and less because their customers can afford less and less... while, in the meantime, the price of everything is going up and up.

I might not be a financial expert, but there's going to come point when that equation is going to just break down... for a lot of people who are already living very close to that abyss we might call "destitution."

And that won't be pretty!

Meanwhile, the Financial Markets and the Cryptosphere…

At least I'm glad to see that the meltdown in the Cryptosphere has slowed somewhat. We're by no means on the way back to where we were before, but at least we're not looking at the price of Hive of being under $0.40 and still heading down, with the bottom nowhere near in sight.

Given how bad the economy seems to be, on account of ongoing uncertainty concerning the war in Ukraine and inflation fears, I'm also not sure if we're going to see anything going back up anytime soon.

All I can say is that I'll just continue to plug away at what I'm doing here and I hope that it all gradually adds up to something. In particular, I hope it adds up to something other than slowly bleeding to death... by which I mean a situation in which we keep watching our balances (in terms of tokens) slowly increase while the overall value of those balances slowly decreases.

Smudge’s First Solo Post!

Meanwhile, my fuzzy housemate Smudge has had her first standalone post on the Mom-Hooman's blog and that's pretty cool!

She's actually a very wise old cat and I'm glad she's getting her moment in the sun even though she's well past retirement age.

I hope you'll take a moment to go read the latest post, and perhaps even to subscribe to the Mom-Hooman's blog!

Thanks for reading and have a great remainder of your week!

=^..^=

Love Cats? Get Involved in Hive's Cat Communties!

If you're a cat lover and often/sometimes post pictures or other content that includes your feline friends, why not become an active part of Hive's growing Cat Communities?

These are some of the more active Cat Communities — why not join them ALL? Remember, you can also "cross-post" your cat posts to them!

HiveCats by @curatorcat is a central "gathering place" for cat content on Hive; promoting the use of the #hivecats tag for feline content!

Cat Snaps by @manorvillemike is a place to post pictures of your cats when you don't have a whole lot to say beyond just sharing your cute photos!

Caturday Community by @saboin is a community where we get to celebrate posts relating to Saturday — aka "Caturday" — our own special day!

Cat Photos by @andrarchy is a "mixed use" cat content community; posts can be just photos or longer, as long as the subject is CATS! It has a lot of subscribers but is not very active.

Cats by @captainklaus (and Sissi!) is another "general" cat content community; it's there, but not very active.

Last, but certainly not least, a special shoutout to the recently formed Hive Pets Community which has become quite active and has quite a bit of cat content!

There are a number of other feline communities listed on Hive, but I am not sharing them for now as they have not had any activity (by their Admins OR users) since the Steem/Hive fork. Updates as they become available!

Yup! I was thinking that my cats and I would have to be on a diet soon! Eat less or I have to learn to hunt and fish! 🙀😂

Curatorcat, we are experiencing the same problem here in western, N.Y. The shelves are always empty and the prices go up so often that they don't even put the price on the shelves now. We have to try 3 or 4 different stores to get any cat food and then our cat does not even like it. These sure are crazy times and I think this may only be the beginning.
