Early morning joggle with a rat

Last night, around 8:00 PM, my neighbor came knocking on my door. I was already dozing off, my head resting on the table, but I managed to mumble an invitation for him to come inside and grab my phone charger. As a good neighbor, he obliged, opened the door, and made his way to the spot where I usually kept the charger. He went away with a "thank you" which I responded and fell on my bed and slept off as if I took a sleeping injection.

It was a long sweet and night which I woke up by 5:00am to a disturbing sound in my room which is very unusual.. It was as if someone or something was lurking in the shadows, an unusual occurrence in my tiny room. I reached for my phone and activated the flashlight, and as if by magic, the noise ceased instantly. My initial thought was that it must be a formidable rat.

Anger settled in so badly because I hate rat, and rat don't have access to my house except someone opened the door for it to enter.
I didn't think twice to know that my neighbor that came last night had stayed with the door opened for some minutes to allow the rat to enter. So bad for me, I helped him with my charger and he called in rat to my house, this is why is not good to help people (in Carter Efe's voice).

I turned off the flashlight and lay still, hoping to hear the rat's noises again so I could pinpoint its location and put an end to its unwelcome intrusion. Ten minutes of patient waiting passed until I heard that unmistakable 'wikky wikky' sound once more. Swiftly, I rose from the bed, tiptoed to where my trusty broom stood, and snatched it up, ready for action. But, just as before, the rat's noise vanished, and I was no closer to identifying its hideout.

I decided to remain stationary, frozen like the model figure in a Alo Vera Soap advertisement, ready to pounce when the rat made its next move. Ten more minutes passed in suspense until the noise returned, this time revealing its source. With my flashlight blazing, I dashed towards the disturbance with speed of light, and there, caught in the beam of light, was the rat, scurrying away from the brightness.

I struck at its location, believing I had successfully cornered it. However, to my dismay, the rat vanished into thin air. It was as if it had dissolved into the shadows, leaving me puzzled and frustrated.

I combed the room in a frantic search, moving everything to the center of the room and scrutinizing every nook and cranny. My mind raced with questions. Where had the rat gone? How had it managed to escape? I rushed to check that my door was still securely closed, fearing it might have tried to flee. Thankfully, the door was sealed tight. The vanishing act of the rat left me both astounded and disconcerted. I had heard stories of rats disappearing but had never personally experienced it until that moment.

In the aftermath, I couldn't help but entertain the whimsical idea that perhaps such vanishing rats were more than mere rodents. Could they be witches or wizards in rat form, using it as a means of transportation to secret covens or gatherings? It was a bizarre thought, but the inexplicable disappearance of the rat left me with a sense of the uncanny.
