LEO's got a new UI: From bumpy, gravel road, to brand new Pavement.

A Perfectly Good Airplane

Twenty something odd years ago I went skydiving. It was my one and only experience of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. There were different options you could choose when you signed up. There was the static line where you hooked onto the plane and your chute automatically deployed when you jumped. You only went up about 3-4 thousand feet for that IIRC, maybe less. There was the tandem jump where you were strapped to a jumpmaster who did all the work and you just went along for the ride. And there was the solo, where you did everything yourself.

I chose the solo. I figured if I was going to be stupid enough to do it, I might as well get the whole experience. So, a buddy and I took the eight hour class required, geared up, and hopped into this tin can of a plane. I'll never forget watching that dial slowly go around counting up the altitude. 1000 ft, 2000 ft, 5000 ft....knowing the whole time I had to jump out of this stupid plane when it hit 11,500 ft. It was a nerve-wracking few minutes. But, not nearly as nerve-wracking as climbing out onto the bars supporting the wing. lol And then having to throw myself off. Backwards! The wind rushing past as I clutched those bars with a deathgrip made me feel like I was going to saw myself in half on the tail rudder if I let go.

It took every fiber of my willpower to jump, but I did it. And immediately blacked out. lol As I found out afterwards, apparently that's not an uncommon occurrence. We are born with two innate fears, the rest are learned. The fear of loud noises and the fear of falling. Throwing yourself out of an airplane is such an unnatural act that the brain can shut itself down to protect itself. That's what mine did.

I tumbled for a few seconds and then at the back of my brain I barely heard a voice yelling at me to "Arch!" "Arch!" And I did. Next thing I know I'm flying through the air with the whole world below me, wind whooshing through my hair and a spectacular view all around. It was amazing. When people ask me what it was like I use this analogy. It's like driving on a washboard gravel road in a beat up pickup truck with a set of tools rattling around in the back, to suddenly being in a brand new Cadillac on a freshly paved asphalt road. It was crazy.

Needless to say, I survived or I wouldn't be here writing this story.

LeoFinance's New UI

The reason I bring this up, is because this is what I thought of when I started using the new UI on LeoFinance. The old UI was that gravel road. Sure, you got where you were going. But there were a lot of things making "noise" around you. Transitioning from page to page always took a little longer than it should. Sometimes posts would load without the comments and you had to refresh a couple times to get them. When you tried to write a post you always had to go through three or four steps to see what it would look like when posted. Figuring out where you were on #threads could be a challenge, especially if you were trying to look for comments or replies. Lots of "noise".

The new UI, however, is the Cadillac. Super smooth and fast, with a very sleek design and everything there for you on one screen. It's obviously got a ways to go before it is "fully loaded" (to continue the car analogy), but the machine itself is smooth as silk. Super easy to navigate and very easy on the eyes. #Threads is now the centerpiece of the entire vehicle. No longer are people restricted to only posting finance and crypto related material. It is now open to any and all content and is already becoming a great source for finding new articles and communities in the Hive ecosystem.

The Leo team has knocked it out of the park with this one and every upgrade and enhancement and new feature added moving forward is just going to make it that much better. It is going to be FUN to drive.

And that's what we want. The goal is to make this place fast, easy, fun, and profitable to use. Something no other social media platform out there can boast. It's been a long wait to get to this point, but @khal promised it would be worth it, and he was right.

LeoFinance has entered a new era. The pieces continue to be put into place to make this the "Everything" app we all want it to be. Today marks a huge step in that direction. The "Gateway" that is LeoFinance is expanding and the future is bright.

Hive is the Way.
LeoFinance, the Gateway.

wow !!! I was feeling like I'm doing sky diving while reading your post, It's a dream of many to have sky diving, but it's only for those who have a strong heart and who doesn't fear height.

As far as New UI from Leo has concern, they have done a great job, I have heard of some errors and bugs, but they will be resolved as the time passes.

Yes, there are definitely things that will need to be worked out. But that's what we're here for, right? We get to test-drive this thing for a while so the devs can work out the kinks. By the time new people start hearing about it, hopefully it will be a lean, mean, threading machine. :-)

Yes Yes ;) Practice makes a man perfect and testing makes their observations and experiments perfects.

I haven't checked out the new UI and I am opting more for the stable old UI until the weekend. There is only so much time and I don't want to run into any issues.

As for your jumping out of plane experience, that sounds like something I would never do. I am scared of heights and I am not sure I would even dare to do that at all.

I'm also very keen on skydiving but haven't been able to do it yet but I intend to do it in the next few months and see how it feels. Many people are afraid to do this, only those who have a very big heart can do it. This decision taken by Leo Finance team is very good because people were having a lot of trouble to use it now they have given new link which is being used by common people. And the way we're seeing technology is getting faster and faster, it's much faster, and it's much better to use, and it's faster to do everything, like reply and comment.

My palms started sweating just reading the bit about skydiving. Haha. I might have done it when I was younger if the opportunity had come up, but no way am I even considering it now. That said, it's cool that you forced yourself to do it and have that experience.

I like Threads so far. I'm going to write them to try to get a LEO delegation for Blockchain Poets and encourage our poets to use it, but I just haven't gotten around to that yet.

I put out a thread last night with the latest prompt telling people to check it out. People should post links to their poems on there and use the tag #bcpoets or something. Can you add that to the community page as a link? I'm just trying to think of a shorter tag that would let people still find the community without having to write it all out. 240 characters on threads is pretty short so #blockchainpoets is 16 characters. lol

You should maybe put a link in the prompt post telling people to post a link on threads as an added requirement to get voted. And, like I said, have them use the hashtag #bcpoets. Once the hashtag gets a couple dozen uses it will be easy to find on threads and people could start using it to check out everyone's posts each week. Maybe make it a suggestion for a couple weeks letting people know it will be a requirement in the future. It only benefits everyone as it brings in a much larger audience.

Users, users, users. That's the name of the game. The more we can integrate all of Hive on threads, the more users and transactions will show, the more ad revenue LEO can generate, the more LEO that is burned and given back to the users. The more users will want to join. And to use everything, they'll need Hive. It's a virtuous circle once it starts building.

Those are some great ideas! #bcpoets... I like that. I suck at managing a community, and Moe has left it to me for sometime, so I'm kind of floundering my way through things. I'll take any suggestions I can get!

Sorry about that @dbooster. For what it's worth you're doing a great job and obviously much better than I have ever done myself. I've been trying to get back into poetry and Hive in general but I'm just stuck in a rut which I can't seem to jump out of.

No worries, buddy. I don't mind being put in charge, I'm just saying I have no idea what I'm doing 😅

But thank you for the compliment 😃 I'm trying!

Oh, and I hope you can find your way out of the rut. I completely understand there. I was in one myself not so long ago.

Yeah, I have no interest in running things, but I'm usually a pretty good idea guy. lol That's the problem with us poets, we're moody. We can go from top of the world motivated to why does this shit even matter in the span of a few days. It helps when trying to capture emotions and feelings in our poetry, but it can make it difficult to stay on an even keel in every day life. A blessing and a curse.

We could do some micropoetry challenges. There are a number of short forms available such as triolets.

That's a great idea too. Right now the tag tracking only seems to show the last few so I don't think a challenge would work yet, but as soon as it becomes easier to track them, we can create all kinds of challenges.

How have you been, man? I've been a little busy lately (for like a year or two), but it's nice to see you popping up on hive again.

I'm never jumping put of a plane by choice, but I'm glad you had a good experience. Just tried out threads and I was pretty impressed. It's like you said, very smooth.

Hey! Good to hear from you. I've been busy on here for the past few months anyway. I tend to not participate much over the summer because of work and golf but these winter months I'm all in.

Yes, the new UI on threads is pretty sweet. They'll be adding and upgrading it weekly going forward so hopefully it can really start to attract new users and expand the reach of the communities already here on Hive. It's off to a very good start.

You should pop in now and again and at least throw out a few threads. It's basically Twitter so there doesn't need to be any rhyme or reason. Just whatever's happening. There are no "feeds" yet so it would just be hit or miss on who sees you, but that should be added in fairly soon and then you'll show up on people who follow you. Right now, you just use a hashtag (like #bcpoets--my suggestion to @dbooster for that community to start posting their links on threads) and it will get categorized in the trending tags.

It's pretty good now but it's only going to get better in the months ahead. It's a good time to get going on this again.

Don't be a stranger. :-)
