Why People NEED to Vote on Articles (and why you should be accumulating HP and LP)

Why Do People Vote?

Everyone has seen those posts on the front page with hundreds of #HIVE and/or #LEO in votes. Maybe you've even been fortunate enough to have been on the receiving end a time or two. I've actually had a couple get over a hundred, but nothing in the hundreds, plural. Hopefully someday.

But how do these people get these massive payoffs for their articles?

It's pretty simple actually. People VOTE on them. Lots of people. And many of them have large votes, which can add up in a hurry.

But why do they get these votes? Well, it's usually because they are adding value to the platform. The authors have consistently proven to write quality articles that people like to read.

But why do people actually vote on them?

The answer to that is the reason for this post and it's very simple: The voters get paid to vote on things! So while it may seem like the author is making a nice payday from their work (and they are), what people tend to forget is that roughly half of that payout is going back to the people who did the voting.

This, more than any other reason, in my opinion, is why you need to build your HP and LP in your accounts. Because while it may seem like you're spinning your wheels sometimes getting small payouts for your articles, if you build up your voting power, you can make sure you are getting paid every day just by voting on other people's work.

It's one of the greatest thing about this platform. Not only can you earn money for content you provide, you can also earn by providing value to other people's content. And by providing that value, you in turn get paid.

Of course the benefits of this go far beyond just getting half of your vote back. By engaging these authors with thoughtful replies in the comments section, you may very possibly get a vote in return. They will also see your name and the more they see it, the more they'll recognize it. Who knows, at some point they may come to one of your posts and give you a nice upvote. After all, they know they need to vote as well to maximize their voting power.

Voting Power

There's a little number somewhere on the front-end page you use (usually by your username) that shows you your current voting power. Every time you vote, that number goes down a little. While you're sitting still, it slowly recharges back towards 100%. That number should NEVER read 100%, in my opinion. If it does, you are wasting money.

Think of it like a glass of water that is constantly getting dripped into. As long as there is room in the glass, the drips will slowly refill it. But once there is no more room, the water spills over the edge and it is wasted. If your voting power reaches 100%, you are wasting that money.

Your voting power recharges at 20% per day so if you can keep it constantly between 80-99%, you will get maximum benefit from your votes and the pool will constantly be recharging, without wasting anything pouring into a full glass.

Anyway, do yourself a favor and really concentrate on building up your HP and LP. Look for little waypoints along the way to strive for. If your vote is worth basically nothing, get it to a penny. If it's worth a penny, shoot for a nickel. But keep striving to grow that number.

You can give twenty 100% upvotes in a day. That will take your voting power down to 80% which means it can fully recharge by the next day. If you like to give lots of votes, do forty 50% percent votes. Again, that will take you down to 80% where it can fully recharge by the next day. But however you do it, VOTE. You're not doing anyone any good sitting at 100% voting power. Least of all yourself.

NOW is the time to get busy on this. #Hive and #Leo both have so many developments going on behind the scenes right now that it's only a matter of time before they really start to take off. When that happens, it will be much harder to grow your HP and LP because they will cost so much more. It's a LOT easier to gather them when LEO is trading at 20 cents and HIVE is $1.30. Time is ticking. Don't get left behind.

Thanks for reading. As always, comments and questions are welcomed and appreciated. Feel free to leave them below. Happy growing!

Growing HP and lp is really of essence, posts are just potential rewards but those curation are the real gem that keeps the system moving forward.

Still growing my lp pennies but we'll get there with time.

Alot of people find it hard to do the simple thing which is to interact, people don't search for random authors unless they are friends in the real world. Commenting will get you out there and do the magic.

HP is the foundation for all we do on Hive. People need to understand this.

The key is time and consistent activity. That is all that is required on Hive.

It is a simple concept yet very difficult to achieve.

Consistency is key and always will be.

It's for sure not an easy task, takes alot of dedication to keep dropping by everyday, moreover distractions is like plaque in the outside world and it affects our overall productivity.

What's important isn't anymore.

Absolutely! The single best way I know to grow your account is NOT to post all the time. It's to engage other people's posts. Posting is definitely something you should do, don't get me wrong. But by simply engaging other authors every day, you will eventually make your posts worth a LOT more when you write them. Plus, as I say in the article, commenting gets you paid both from your own votes and the votes you get from the authors you voted on. It just makes perfect sense to get out there and engage.

I'm not even much of a posting person myself lol, but reading is what I love doing and keeps me sane sometimes.

You have to crawl before you walk I guess, then you can later fly. It's all a process, I would advice any newbie to comment more and post less. We all have different ways to approach things tho.

Not really a newbie but some old habits die hard.

I agree with this so much! I'm relatively new to the space and I've noticed the only way to really grow is to talk to lots of people and try and grow your network. Finding communities to be active in is especially important.

You're right.

It's always good to start from a community you're comfortable with or familiar with what they do, then grow your follower from there.

Also, you can always go to any other community you're excited about as time goes on. You'll always be welcomed as long as you're not violating any rules

Interaction is very crucial.

More importantly, this is a social space so we all should treat it like one.

Hope you're having a great day today.

Couldn't agree more. This coincides with my article about smaller accounts being able to grow their accounts (thus influence) at a greater pace relative to the larger accounts.

Increasing one's HP has so many benefits. It cannot be expressed enough how vital that is.

Keep adding to the platform on a consistent basis and good things will happen. It all adds up.

Indeed. I know I keep writing articles about this but it just seems to be something that people need to be reminded about constantly. The names we see every day are the ones doing this and they're also the ones with bigger accounts.

I think it's important to keep hammering this point home so that hopefully the smaller accounts realize how vital it is to their success.

I mean, the one single thing that almost all the "big" accounts have in common is that they vote and engage. Yes, there are some that just bought their stake. But most of them bought some and now use that stake to build their accounts even further. It's a no-brainer.

Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it!

I am. lol This is where it starts for people. Comment on other's work and engage with them and you'll start to gain some traction.

Thanks for the comment.

This is an awesome reminder on how people should keep on engaging more in the space! Votes for people with less HP are small in value, but small yet consistent actions such as voting and engaging people in this space is what will create more value in the long run.

Yup, it is really not that difficult to grow your small account to a couple hundred HP/LP if you just get out there and engage. Hell, I try to vote on every unique contributor to LeoMarketTalk every day and my vote is usually worth around 1 LEO. If you are a small account and come to LMT every day to engage, you'd probably get over a couple hundred LEO in the first year, just from that one single spot alone. It really is a no-brainer. Engage, engage, engage.

I think there is no excuse to leaving the account at 100% VP. If people don't have time, they can always set their auto-votes when their VP is above a certain threshold. After all, the value generated matter over time.

Totally agree. Worst case, you could literally open up LEO, read the titles of articles, and vote for 20 of them. Done. I don't think that's what you should do, but it really is that simple. If you don't have time, at least use your votes so 20 people get some rewards and you get half your vote back to you 20 times. It's not rocket science.

Okay, I am voting :)
Yeah, if someone like me can earn fairly good on my curation then I can imagine how much big accounts may earn.

Thank you! Yes, curation is about effort. Take a minute to engage with the author and chances are you'll get rewarded. Plus, you get half your vote back from your own vote. Pretty simple.

Yes, curation can be quite rewarding at times, especially when your HP is high, as you then basically ensure a return on your interaction and effort in responding to articles that you find interesting... or have something to contribute.

Building every aspect of your account is obviously a win/win.

It's important to read, comment, and curate. You get your name out there and you get practice and ideas for writing your own posts. There really is no downside to doing it. On the contrary, it's the fastest way I know to build your account.

(Edited)

When I first came here years ago onmy main account, I was used to the Blogger way of blogging. I'd hit 'publish' then wait for the readers to come, always wondering why they didn't. It was only when I started "getting out there" and commenting and upvoting others, that I began to get noticed. Steadily, things got better exposure-wise over time. So if you're new to Hive, get out there and jump in, the water's fine!

You are right. One of the best ways to enjoy the blockchain is to build considerable Hivepower and Leo power. Everyone loves to have this but it comes with the individual size of living also.

Yes, but everyone has to start somewhere and there are plenty of people on here who have built their accounts to 10's of thousands of HP simply by engaging and learning to post. It certainly doesn't happen overnight, but the more you can acquire, the faster your account will grow.

It might take you 2 years to build up 1000 HP but once you're there, it will probably take you less than a year to go to 2000. Just how it works. It starts slow but once it starts building, it will all start to add up.

Great point. There's really no excuse not to vote. Even if you can't do it manually, which is how I like to do things, you can still follow a trail by someone you trust so your VP doesn't go to waste.

Hey! Thanks for dropping by! I haven't seen you for a while. Of course I was out for about three weeks with covid so...I didn't see anyone for a while.

As far as the trail goes, I just tried doing that with my VYB but I didn't like it. It actually cuts into your Hive voting power as well. Since I 100% manually curate, I was actually losing out on using my votes where I wanted and my voting power went down into the low 70's. Not for me.

If I know I'll be out a day or two, I'll take my voting power down to 60% or 40% so it's at least recharging the entire time I'm gone. Other than that I try to stay above 80%...

Oh, sorry to hear that! I hope you're feeling better now!

But I've been away myself as well. I'm still working my day job while also starting my own business and, as you know very well, that's a lot of work! I'm slowly figuring out this new life of mine and hopefully, I'll be around more.

But on the topic of curation, I agree with you. I also do 100% manual curation and I prefer to take my VP down if I'm going to be out for a couple of days.

I'm a shameless LEO/Hive hoarder and I am 100% sure there will be a lot of people crying when they realize they sold pure gold to me at $1.3 a pop.

The revolution starts here.

lol I'm right there with you. I'm still crying a little inside that I didn't sell a bunch of my other stuff to buy more at 30 cents, but it is what it is. Not worth focusing on things I can't change. I'm happy I've got what I've got and I'm just going to keep building it as much as possible. Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate it!

You did explained all the things pretty well. Building up hive power and delegate is also a good option to earn a yummy passive income.and investing that to other tokens or power up would be more great 😀.
What do you think delegation of hive power is good manual curation is good ??

I've got about 1/3 of my HP delegated to different things but very little of my LeoPower. That's because I try to manually curate almost exclusively on LEO so I feel like I earn the most rewards by keeping my vote value high.

While delegating is definitely something to consider, especially if you want to help certain projects, I really think manually curating is the best way to build your account. As I pointed out above, by curating, not only are you receiving half the value of the upvotes you provide, but you are also giving yourself the opportunity to receive upvotes on your comments and getting your name out there so it is recognized when you DO write articles.

All of that, plus you continuously learn what's happening on the platform and you sharpen your skills at writing and interacting with people. I think that's probably even MORE important for people where English is not their first language.

Just my opinion. As I've said before, one of the greatest things about HIVE is that there are many different ways to interact, learn, and earn. You just have to decide which are the best ways for you, because it can be different for everybody.

Thank you for the reminder. Sometimes we get caught up with just posting blog without interacting with other hivers which is the essence of the blockchain.
