[ESP/ENG] WHEN A MARRIAGE ENDS... WHOSE FAULT IS IT? THIS IS MY STORY!

Hola amigos!!!

¡Saludos y Bendiciones!

Hi friends!!! Greetings and hugs to all the emotional community of #LadiesofHive once again I come to show myself and talk to you since the best thing that human beings can have is to be able to express what we feel without fear of being judged or singled out.

I feel confident and after some time with the security of being able to talk about this particular topic with you, since more than 3 months ago my current husband and I began the process of separation and future divorce and it has been one of the worst but at the same time liberating decisions I have made in my life.

We had complications of communication and understanding from the beginning of our relationship but as I always told myself: I want to fight for my marriage! stay there and hold on until the end. When the disrespect and verbal violence knocked on my door was when I asked myself What more should I put up with? and talking to family members and friends I realized that unfortunately we could not continue living together because our safety both mentally and physically was at stake and my 2 young daughters were at stake and that if I was not going to negotiate.

Was it an easy decision? Am I happy? Are I sorry? Well it was not easy and I think it will never be for anyone, the fact of separating your family and start the whole process of separation and subsequent divorce is very complicated and also expensive in my country Venezuela, but I feel it was the best I could do for my daughters, I did not want them to normalize domestic violence, that they think and see that this is love, that this is how a woman should be treated and that it is normal to live with someone in that way.

No, I am not happy, sometimes I have my episodes of sadness and nostalgia, I sit down to look at my family photos on my cell phone and without a doubt I feel that emptiness in my heart that undoubtedly leaves the bitter pill of a separation, but I do feel calm and at peace. I feel safe where I am now and so do my daughters and that beats the sadness. I know it is a process that will take time and in that I am very sure and trusting in God that it will.

I am not sorry either since it was a safe and confident decision, rather I feel that it took a long time for us to be honest with each other. We gave it a lot of time and I confess that we got to a point where we didn't want to try anymore and just got used to each other's company and that was the beginning of the end.

But now analyzing everything that happened and what we let happen and allowed, I ask myself the following question... Whose fault was it?. This feeling that was developing in my days after my separation was growing more and more every day and I desperately wanted an answer.

Guilt is the one that makes you feel that "something is wrong or that you acted in an inappropriate way " and in spite of everything I was telling myself during the course of the day if I had been the one to blame for having carried out the decision to separate.

After talking to my family, friends and even a specialist friend, I came to the conclusion that it was both of our fault. After years of struggle and trying over and over again to achieve a "perfect marriage " we both had flaws that when they collided made for an explosive, toxic and unhealthy combination for a loving relationship.

I was very permissive, submissive and unsure of myself and he was arrogant, abusive and not at all noble. We were gradually playing the role of the wolf and Little Red Riding Hood until we reached a point where the abuse and disrespect was so much that it was very evident among friends, family and neighbors.

Yes, the blame was on both of us: He for being abusive and me for allowing it, not putting a stop, not setting limits and letting the burden in everything fall on my shoulders to prove that I was "the super woman " and that being always loyal and submissive to my husband would allow me to receive better treatment.

When we go through this situation there are many feelings that come to the surface: guilt, anger, sadness, anxiety, confusion, etc. It is up to us whether we allow it or not. Living as a couple is a combination of pure love, respect and humility, pride is left aside and we work together for the harmonious creation of the family, when respect disappears with it, love disappears and that already touches the key of the end of a union, because in that way it is difficult and impossible to live.

I know that this behavior is based a lot on how we were raised and taught as children, that is why I focus so much on my daughters with this subject. Little by little and according to their age I explain to them what self-love is, how it is to truly love, I teach them about respect and to be humble from the heart. I myself am starting a therapy that little by little will help me with my security as an individual, to know where to place limits and not to allow abuses or macho behaviors that make me an inferior and sad person, because that is not who I am.

I want to show you my experience, my life because I know that there will be women and men who are in a toxic and abusive relationship and we should not allow those treatments, for the eyes of God we are all equal so let's not allow these types of treatments from other people call them husband, wife, immediate family or friends. All types of violence: *Verbal or physical hurts or hits hard to the soul, let's not allow that to happen.

Thank you for making it this far, taking the time to read my story and I hope it is helpful to you or a family member or friend in need, we are here to support each other!

Greetings and Blessings!

Abrazos

I am sorry that you and your daughters had to go through this. I'm sorry it did not work out to stay together. You were right to put your daughters and yourself first. Marriage takes work, and if he wasn't willing to (it sounds like you tried) then you are in a better place now.

Take care and take the strength that God offers each of us. !LADY

I'm sorry to read about your relationship ending. But it may have been the best for you and your children's well-being. There is no point in keeping the marriage when it endangers you. I wish you well as you move on and may peace always reign in your heart.
