Kaspa turns to Rust in the near future, testnet 11

Kaspa is making some new moves and they will be switching things up and changing to Rust for the new upcoming testnet. But what does that mean and how does it change things, let us try and find out!

What is Rust, and why use it?

Rust is a programming language and with this new testnet Kaspa is not only switching up all its code to Rust. From Go the previous programming language used. But in doing so they will also achieve a higher block rate, or blocks minted per second. And this of course translates into more transactions per second. And just how fast will it be? Well, they are set to achieve a staggering 10 blocks per second or a whopping 3,000 transactions per second.

And just how do that stack up to other big blockchains? Well, Bitcoin is sitting at ~20 min per block and Ethereum is currently at around 10-20 seconds per block. With the new speeds, Kaspa is set to be able to achieve they are looking like they will become the de facto gold standard. As in the fastest proof of work network available. And it is looking like they will even be able to rival, and eventually outperform, more centralized blockchains like Solana. Solana currently has a block speed of 400 milliseconds or 2.5 blocks per second.

What is in store for the future?

I have to say that this is really starting to look like Spider-Man´s origin story, with great speed, comes great responsibility. What I mean by that is just like when Peter finds out he has superpowers, he then has to figure out what to do with them. And with Kaspa they are just not seeing the full potential of their "super powers", now we need to see what they do with them.

What needs to happen is we need to see the Kaspa ecosystem start to take form. Because as it is now it is just a lot of speed. But speed without a purpose is pretty much pointless. We need somewhere where we can make use of that speed. With that, I do hope Kaspa has its uncle Ben moment soon, and when that happens I hope they choose the right path forward. And not the one that leads to infamy and possibly obscurity.

Testnet 11

If you like to read a bit more about Kaspas move to Rust and the testnet that is currently live, there is a link to the official post at the bottom. And if you currently are developing a dApp why not think about making it for Kaspa? =)

I would love to hear what you think about Kaspas switch to Rust, do you perhaps think when it goes live it will be Kaspas uncle Ben moment? Please let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
