¿Por qué no?/Why not?

Siempre me han gustado las manualidades. La dificultad en mi país para realizarlas ha sido la no existencia de una tienda que se dedique a vender este tipo de productos. Con el transcurso de los años, esas importaciones llegaron a las fronteras de mi tierra, posibilitando la creación de diversos negocios que venden foami, silicona en barra, pistolas para usarla, moldes, organizadores, cintas, limpiapipas. Algunos hasta venden hilo de estambre y ganchillo de crochet.

Antes no me atrevía a emprender el arte de hacer pulseras, que es lo más fácil que se puede realizar cuando empiezas. Hasta que un día un amigo me dijo que debía hacer algo para relajarme debido al estrés que me provoca el trabajo que desempeño en estos momentos, y que ni con la escritura logro disipar.

Tomé un poco del dinero que tenía guardado e invertí en unos hilos, ojos turcos y perlas, tanto blancas como negras, para realizar mi primera manualidad. Ojo, eso lo hice luego de ver algunos videos en YouTube sobre cómo hacer pulseras sencillas. Al final, realicé mi primer trabajo.

Una amiga me pidió varias de esas pulseras. Al inicio no me salieron bien y tuve que arreglar las que le había dado. Pero en estos momentos puedo hacer diseños que nunca creí que lograría realizar.

He confeccionado tantas pulseras que casi he alcanzado a llenar un pote, eso sin contar una que recientemente hice por encargo y a la que no le hice una copia (me gusta dejar copias básicas de mis manualidades por si olvido cómo se hacen).

Intenté hacer cosas de bisutería más complicadas, como anillos y dijes, que requieren de pinzas y alambre, pero a falta de material, y de experiencia, me he quedado por el momento con las pulseras de hilo.

También he incursionado en la confección de flores con limpiapipas, pero quizás tampoco sea mi camino en el mundo de las manualidades. No me siento conforme con la forma en que me quedan.

Quiero hacer flores eternas, ya sean de listón o de retazo, pero todavía me falta conseguir algunos implementos. Por ahora, improvisaré con un poco de tela que me dio una amiga. Además, deseo adentrarme en el mundo del crochet y aprender a realizar algunos puntos. No hablo de coser porque no tengo máquina para eso y a mano me considero un desastre.

Lamentablemente, no todos los tipos de manualidades se pueden confeccionar debido a que a Camagüey no llegan algunos de los artículos para realizarlas. Lo único que se puede hacer es improvisar o aguardar pacientemente a que caiga una estrella, como dicen las personas cuando ocurre un milagro, y que en alguno de los diferentes puntos de venta oferten lo que se necesita para la manualidad deseada.

A pesar de todo, me gustaría seguir en este camino hasta que ya no pueda más. Es relajante y la satisfacción de ver el producto realizado es enorme.

I have always liked crafts. The difficulty in my country to make them has been the lack of a store dedicated to selling these types of products. Over the years, those imports have reached the borders of my land, enabling the creation of various businesses that sell foam, glue sticks, glue guns, molds, organizers, ribbons, and pipe cleaners. Some even sell yarn and crochet hooks.

Before, I didn’t dare to venture into the art of making bracelets, which is the easiest thing you can do when you start. Until one day a friend told me that I should do something to relax due to the stress caused by the job I currently have, which I can't even dissipate with writing.

I took some of the money I had saved and invested it in some threads, evil eyes, and pearls, both white and black, to make my first craft. Mind you, I did this after watching some videos on YouTube about how to make simple bracelets. In the end, I completed my first piece.

A friend asked me for several of those bracelets. At first, they didn’t turn out well, and I had to fix the ones I had given her. But now I can create designs that I never thought I would be able to make.

I have made so many bracelets that I have almost filled a container, not counting one that I recently made on request and for which I didn’t make a copy (I like to keep basic copies of my crafts in case I forget how to make them).

I tried to make more complicated jewelry items, like rings and charms, which require pliers and wire, but lacking materials and experience, I have stuck for now with thread bracelets.

I have also ventured into making flowers with pipe cleaners, but maybe that’s not my path in the world of crafts either. I’m not satisfied with how they turn out.

I want to make everlasting flowers, whether from ribbon or fabric scraps, but I still need to get some supplies. For now, I will improvise with some fabric that a friend gave me. Also, I want to dive into the world of crochet and learn how to make some stitches. I’m not talking about sewing because I don’t have a machine for that, and by hand, I consider myself a disaster.

Unfortunately, not all types of crafts can be made because some of the necessary items do not arrive in Camagüey. The only thing that can be done is to improvise or patiently wait for a star to fall, as people say when a miracle happens, and hope that one of the different points of sale offers what is needed for the desired craft.

Despite everything, I would like to continue on this path until I can’t anymore. It’s relaxing, and the satisfaction of seeing the finished product is enormous.
