Do angel delegators actually exist on Hive?

More funds = More Fun 🤑

Today I want to discuss a topic that surely will interest many. We've all noticed that our upvotes are worth a lot more today than they were this time last year. HIVE's price has continued to escalate, which has, in turn, multiplied the value of all upvotes on our very useable blockchain.

There are now quite a few accounts that can hand out a 100% upvote worth well over $100. Even accounts that once could only give out a few cents here and there are noticing that their upvotes are now worth a few dollars at present moment. It is pretty awesome to know that we can gift and earn crypto without losing anything, all that is required is to stake your HIVE and turn it into Hive Power.

Once you have Hive Power, you then have a few options on how you can utilize your newfound ability to spread the wealth. If you're like me and use Hive daily, then manually curating will be the obvious option. Some don't have the time or desire to do that and instead go down the delegation route. It's pretty easy to find a project that will pay you daily just for delegating to them. I'm not going to take the time to list out all of those options, the resources are already there to give you plenty of choices.

There is another category of supremely wealthy that aren't worried about making some extra crypto off of their Hive Power. I've personally known people to have several hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Hive Power, sometimes even millions of dollars worth, and they just have let it sit in their wallet idly for many months. Sure they are missing out on some profit, but they are already successful enough to not have to worry about it and are most likely too busy living their lives to the fullest in the real world. They are in it for the long haul and feel no need to let Hive create extra daily tasks, even though most of that can be automated if they take the time to figure it out. These whales occasionally or even consistently curate, but surely they don't have the time to spread their massive amount of upvote value across the blockchain evenly.

In comes the angel delegator 😇

Maybe you have not heard this term before. Perhaps I made it up just because it makes sense to me. I'm not really for sure about the origin, but I do know what this term means to me. Let me briefly explain what I mean by the title angel delegator.

Angel delegator: A person who for no apparent reason decides to delegate their Hive Power to another account and let them benefit from the use of an often large stake.

It probably seems crazy to think that an account would give up so much of its power just to help someone else out, but it happens. I know that if I had the financial freedom to openly give to others without needing a thing in return, it would surely feel amazing to do that. I'm quite a long way away from being able to make something that huge happen, but I will never eliminate the possibility.

I said angel delegations happen, but is this really something that is occuring? Is it more likely that there are massive business deals being done right under our noses? Are certain users being offered the opportunity to earn a delegation in return for certain expectations? Things such as promoting Hive to better ensure profitable investment. Perhaps even a personal assistant of sorts. There are many tasks that I can think of which could warrant a large Hive Power delegation.

I'm not saying that having an incoming delegation is bad in any way shape or form. I'm just curious as to how some people have managed to secure something like that and if more opportunities exist in this realm.

Nothing in life is free 🚧

Whether you realize it or not, pretty much everything has a toll to pay. Even if one were to get lucky and receive an angel delegation while they are asleep one night, they will surely have to work tremendously hard to continue to be given such a thing. If I were one of these angel delegators, I wouldn't just be handing out my power to anybody. I would wish to give someone who offers something beneficial to Hive the power to impact this place even more. There are plenty of ways that one can offer value. High-quality and consumable content, a loud voice that invites new users to Hive, developers who give us amazing utilities, or maybe even friends/family.

More often than not, there is probably some sort of private messaging happening to set up a mutually acceptable delegation. Most people on Hive are here for many reasons, one of which is often to make some money. It is pretty unlikely that a large stakeholder would be willing to erase the opportunity to increase their gains just to help someone else out. We are humans though and we find joy in helping others, no matter the cost that we may incur. An angel delegation could change the way someone lives their life and it may very well just be the motivation that they need to change the world.

What would you do with an angel delegation❓

Let's say that you did happen upon a spur-of-the-moment delegation. I'm not saying that this is likely, but we can think hypothetically for a second. How would this change your operations on Hive?

I know that me personally, not much would change with my day-to-day habits. I would continue to manually curate every single day. I would not let up on my own daily posts that I am so passionate about crafting. One major thing that would be altered is the amount of Hive Power that I would earn through curation. At the moment I earn about 20 HP on average each day from curation. If this number were to multiply to say 3x or 4x, I'd be growing my account at an even more rapid pace and be able to help others do the same.

I will not spend my spare time wishing for an angel delegator to choose me. It would be unwise to daydream about such a lottery occurring in my life. Most things that I have received in my life have come through grit and determination. I've gotten lucky here and there, but consistently being the one in a million isn't my reality. The same goes for the vast majority of the population on Earth.

Weird to read this because I now realize that someone, and I don’t know who, delegated 70 HP to me in my first month on the platform. Only now do I understand the value of that donation.

70 may not be a giant amount, but it is a number that is more than 0… which means it does accelerate your account growth rate. It’s a great feeling to know that somebody discovered you early on and was willing to delegate a portion of HP just to assist your getting started process.

Sounds to me like you are proof that angel delegators DO exist.

We would love to get one of these Angel Delegators to give @combination a hand up, as it is for a very good cause and it also gives back to participating Hive members.
But maybe just an empty dream, so we will continue to make it in our own way.

I have noticed your profile recently and am thankful that we crossed paths. I did visit your website, I love the butterfly logo and it’s relation to the Papillon name. I think it is admirable to have such a foundation. I believe as we continue to have a greater number of large stakeholders on Hive, surely at some point there will be one (or several) who believe in your mission and choose to help out.

Who wouldn’t be excited to assist with such a great motto as that one?

Thank you for this kind reply @daltono
Yes, it is our new website as the first one was 20 years old and we must still populate the website with a timeline and a history page. I also want a Gallery page, as we have many photos to load.

The thing about me is that I know human leeches very well and that's why I rather keep things on the surface with my friends here on Hive, so that nobody would see me as a false leech.
I also never ask for anything (except help with Hive's technology), as I was born way before computers, but I will never ask any soul for money.
That's why I don't bomb the Papillon account with charity posts every day, or every month.
I am only an ordinary guy that cares. That's all.

There are a few here on Hive that know me for many years and they will all attest to what I am saying here.

Yes, in all honesty help will always be welcome, but it must come from the heart, so we will see what the future holds for us here.

Sorry for the long reply, but I just wanted you to get to know me a bit better.

Please call me Zac.

When I was new I recieved a "angel delegation" from @fulltimegeek until the stupid flagging wars started.

That must have been nice at the time. Flag wars ruin lots of fun.

Earlier this year I received a random delegation from TCMDan, along with a number of others who also received delegations. All for promoting Hive on Twitter. I think mine was somewhere between the range of 5K-7K. That was pretty generous and I felt pretty lucky to have received that for many months.

I've never received an angel delegation, but would love to be big enough someday in order to lift other people up in a meaningful way. I've always dreamt of coming into a billion dollars say, then having fun giving half of it away. Not to the charities racket (where most of the funds go for ads and bonuses) but giving funds DIRECTLY to the working class people that need it the most.

I feel the same as you, I'd like to directly see the results of my gifts. Personally delivery of a life changing sum sounds pretty exciting.

It would be pretty incredible to have an angel delegator. I'd be able to focus more on curating than post, but I wouldn't change my habits. I've gotten into a very consistent routine and I love it. Being able to help others that are truly trying to make it and struggling would be incredible. I just want to make people smile.

I was calling myself mr.delegation and delegated my steem power to more than 100's of our community members (mainly dtube community) in the past.

3 years of bear market and me wasn't not prepared for the worst-case scenario made me sell all my Steem.

Fortunately, All steem delegations that I gave away (with good intentions), came back to me via someone special as Hive delegation.

I definitely remember you doing such things. I’m sure you felt amazing being able to do that back then. Spreading your success to others to create a bountiful circle of life.

Those lows hit a lot of us hard. Some more than others. It’s great that you’ve been able to bounce back and still have the same positive outlook about Hive’s future. We are happy to have you @nathanmars.

I guess I don't really delegate without reason so much, A few of my delegations are goodwill delegation because the accounts couldn't transact on hive. (they didnt have enough RCs) and sometimes I just leave these delegations running for weeks on end.

I’ve had a handful of random people who I do not know sign up for Hive through my Hive Onboard affiliate link. Luckily I get a notification when that happens and I’m aware that they require a small delegation to get started. Most of the time they don’t do anything for a month and won’t rent to any of my messages to help them. I wish all new users would go forward at full force. I’d be more than happy to delegate to them until they’re up and running on their own.

I'd do the same if anyone ever used my link, :D But I don't spam it around enough for that to happen.

I don’t either. I just have it at the bottom of all of my posts. I guess maybe some people decide they are sort of interested here and there. Then they get confused and quit before they even manage to get started.

Yeah I do the same, It can be very daunting with how much info there is to absorb, but really it comes down to just using the right analogies.

I got a delegation once, it left as mysteriously as it came. I had no idea what I did exactly but I know within that period I was very active here. I guess one beautiful saint found me pretty enough for a delegation.

Right now, I don't exactly have a lot of HP but I delegate a little to some accounts, it's a way of giving back, I guess. I take back mysteriously too, once I realize the account has begun surviving well enough without my delegation.

Hard to say why exactly that delegation appeared and disappeared. At least you were able to enjoy it for awhile. It sounds like you also have been able to do the same for others. Every little bit helps.

I am fortunate to benefit from a number of delegations. I did, once, receive an unexpected delegation. I had no idea why and as mysteriously it was removed. 🤔 No names, no pack drill.

That said, an angel delegation would ebable me to be delegate more- and to more - participants in #HivePUD. I would also be more active in other retention initiatives. I have long said that retention is as - possibly more - important than onboarding.

The fact that delegating is so easy and safe makes it a very seamless way to help others. I’m sure we can all agree that any delegation received would help further motivate our efforts. While any outgoing delegation would be a caring sacrifice for someone else.

Stupid question, but I can't seem to find the answer: if someone delegates to you, does this mean you make all the profit from curation on the delegation?

0
0
0.000
avatar

Quick answer for you...

The person receiving the delegation will receive all of the curation rewards. You will however not be able to use the received delegation to vote on a witness or proposal.

Some curation projects vow to payout to their delegators daily, but that is not something that happens automatically. They either do it manually or have some sort of automation process that they set up on their own using a bot of sorts.
