Experimenting with the livery editor in DIRT 5

Customization simplified 🎨

Being able to personalize my car has always been something I enjoyed in racing games. I first fell in love with this creative process back with the original Need For Speed Underground games starting in 2003. I had never been given the freedom to change how my car looked any further than simply swapping through factory paint colors. I was amazed. This of course was taken to new levels with the livery editor in Forza Motorsport 2, which I first got to use in 2007.

Since then it has become more common for racing video games to include many customization features. The latest entries in the NFS series are probably my favorite when it comes to building the exact car I want. DIRT 5 also does a really good of letting you express your creativity, but it is made very easy rather than requiring you to figure out how to handle dozens of different layers with your decals.

DIRT 5 starts you out with a very limited supply of design options. As you level up, you gain the ability to purchase new designs with the in-game currency that is very easily earned through competing in races. I have been saving for a specific car, so I haven't wasted any of my money yet. I do plan to start buying many of the different patterns and vinyl that are available. For now, I am working with the stuff you start with. Just wait until you see what all I come up with once I have an abundance of money to buy anything and everything in DIRT 5.

I'm playing on ps4. given as a gift game this month. It's a lot of fun with split screen.

It is great that some games still include split-screen. Racing games like these are very competitive and online multiplayer can only offer so much.

Thanks! I have another DIRT 5 video dropping with my opinion on the game after playing for 20 hours. I will be showing off all of my advanced liveries after unlocking a lot more of the design options.
