Maybe it is my fault that The Matrix Resurrections sucked

Resurrect me 🪦

This post isn't going to be a review about how good or bad The Matrix Resurrections is. Instead, I am going to focus on the fact that I got way too high before I watched this movie and how it is my fault that the new Matrix movie was terrible. I can't blame Keanu for this, it is my own fault that one of my most anticipated fils of 2021 was an absolute letdown.

My brother was in town for Christmas and we went to go visit a couple of our friends at their new apartment. When we arrived, I walked in and was encouraged to eat a chocolate edible. Then they proceeded to roll up the first blunt I had seen in over a year. I hadn't been smoking and have only been eating small amounts of Delta-8. My tolerance had become very low. I wasn't about to be the guy sitting in the corner not partaking with my friends though. It was a rare occasion to have us all in one place after all.

I knew I was too high whenever I got slumped on their couch and had been petting their dog for about an hour straight. We eventually left and went over to my parent's house for dinner. I swear I ate the most food I have eaten in quite a long time. I had 3 servings of pork tenderloin along with everything else that was on the table. My belly was a bottomless pit, thanks to the weed.

After dinner, we decided to watch a movie as a family. The Matrix Resurrections had just come out on HBO Max that day. We fired it up and began watching in glorious 4K. I had been waiting a year for this, it was about time.

The first half of the movie was so damn slow and nothing like I expected. It had been so long since I watched any Matrix film, I sort of forgot about everything. All of the callbacks to old films went over my head. I kept waiting for some action, but it never seemed to come, Neo was boring/old and most of the characters I remembered had been replaced with new faces. I couldn't get into it.

Then I began to doze off, I was so exhausted. As soon as the movie finally started to have some exciting moments, I was in and out of consciousness. I can't really recall much of what happened in the Matrix Resurrections, to be honest. It is my own fault that I left with a bad impression.

Maybe I should go back and watch it again, but it is just so freaking long and I honestly do not feel like it. I will probably never be able to give a true review of this movie, thanks to getting way too high before I watched it.

I don't plan on smoking weed anymore anytime soon, I prefer the mild high that Delta-8 edibles gives me. Plus I'm kind of over drowning my lungs with smoke, just doesn't seem feasible long term. As fun as it was to chill with some old friends, getting fried certainly ruined The Matrix Resurrections for me. It is my fault that this film sucked, everyone can blame me.

No reason to blame it on the film crew 😜

It is an unnecessary movie, they just wanted to make money with the nostalgia of those of us who watch the triogia. This new movie is a total disappointment. I had high expectations too.

I guess I got hyped without trying to understand why they were even making this fourth movie. It was totally unneeded for sure.

Yeah I must have been high too, because I fell soundly asleep 20 min into the movie... I still finished watching it though, and my life would be exactly the same if I hadn't. It's probably my fault that it sucked so much because I saw Don't look up right before this one. 😬

I watched Don’t Look Up one or two movies after this one, during the same week. That film was drastically better than The Matrix.

I was a little drunk whilest watching it but got the gist of the movie. It has A LOT of fanservice and it's clear it wasn't really an attempt at making a proper Matrix sequel. However I did enjoy it still.
I did not have too much hype for it, I've managed to stop that whenever something gets me excited because nowadays almost everything is a letdown... So this wasn't really that terrible for me. It's a fun movie and all the callbacks, references, old characters, etc were pretty fun. The new characters are a little odd at first but I grew to like them.
I just really didn't like who they cast as Agent Smith.
If you ever find yourself not high and wanting a simple movie to pass some time, this isn't a bad choice, I do have pretty bad taste but eh, I liked it.

I kinda wanna get high now though.

It had just been so long since I watched the originals and I was very young at the time. The callbacks didn’t do much for me. It felt like this movie was forced just to make some money. There are however many movies out there far worse than this one.

I enjoyed it for what it was. It was a fun love story with some call backs. It was also a giant FU to Warner Brothers and to the industry as a whole. Lana Wachowski obviously didn't want to make it and she never misses a chance to tell us WB forced her to do it and that they are evil. Of course WB doesn't care. They make money whether the movie is trashing them or not. But it does make it more amusing.

It really felt like a lot of the older characters such as Neo didn’t even want to do this. Maybe they did, just not this way.

Really? I never knew that was the case. Must be why it sucked indeed.

It did suck. Did you realize how the writers/directors even mocked it with the game and being forced to make another one? It was shit!

Oooh that sounds like you were higher than the stars bro!

BTW Happy New Year!

Yes I noticed how in the movie they complained about making a movie. That says it all.

Happy New Years to you as well!

I was so excited for this movie too. I rewatched the previous Matrix movies to prepare for it. The first movie movie was so good and this new one was just dumb

Hahahah, your post made me laugh so much!! Whether you watched it high or not, the impression would be the same! I watched it yesterday and it was hilarious, not in a positive way! It turned up to be a romantic comedy, almost 😂 and there were better effects in the first part, way back in time. Just don't watch it again, better play the pianista game, please :))

I wanted action and mind expansion, not a RomCom 😭

I’ll stick to Pianista 🎹

I’ll stick to Pianista 🎹

great :))

I am a bit slow these days in posting and all... I wanted to start to play the pieces from the list from Pianista and mention you as the source of inspiration hahaha, but also looking forward to seeing when you post something from there. Well, nothing from me in this music field for the next few days for sure, as I am going on a trip, an unexpected one.

I haven't watched the new matrix but I'll make sure to not watch it while high 😂

I can only imagine how funny it would be to watch you passing in and out of consciousness while the movies going. Like an old man getting the nods during church, but instead it's you and exciting parts of the movie.

Literally made me feel just like an old man. I couldn’t keep my eyes open and every once in awhile would just jolt back awake to full awareness, only to pass back out soon after.

I was expecting more of this movie, to be honest. I didn't like the fact it was simply a new iteration of the same events from the first film, however, I have to say there were some enjoyable scenes as well. And the last scene was super cool too but that doesn't make me wish for a new movie. I think Matrix should end with this one.

I think all of the gripes many of us have from this are much easier to focus on than the good things. I can find things I enjoyed about it, but it’s more fun to find things that disappointed me. That’s what they get for getting me so hyped 🤣😂

No it's not your weed. It's bad. It looked like a parody of the matrix trilogy. I didn't know if I should laugh while watching but I kept watching until the end. You can skip rewatching it imho.

(Btw, so buildawhale still works? Just send 1 SBD to get an upvote? Or?)

A parody is a good way to put it, sure didn't seem like what I was expecting it to be.

No, bid bots are long gone from here. So do not just send your HBD to that account. Buildawhale is now just an amazing curation account that gives votes without having to pay for them.

I don't think it was the weed man!

I had a very similar experience. I did watch it twice though. First time really baked, second time not so baked.

I felt the same way, the beginning was all over the place. I couldn't get into the new character faces. I didn't like the backstory they tried creating. I expected much more from the franchise. Like you said, it takes close to an hour before you even see any Matrix level action.

The movie just fell flat for me.

I really tried to like this though and did watch it a second time. It was a little better, but I think that was just wishful thinking on my part or me just WANTING to like it so badly. Regardless, I think it fell flat on both times I watched it!

Sounds to me like neither one of wants to officially say that The Matrix sucks since we liked the original so much.

Maybe that was their hidden message... THE MATRIX SUCKS, SO UNPLUG
