La amiguita mala//The bad friend

¡Corre, corre!

Run, run! Maye said, panting, with a broken voice.

I was running full of fear and I didn't dare to turn around to find out what was going on, I only knew that I had to keep running but I couldn't stop anymore.

-Stop, I screamed while crying. In my memory of that day, with each stride my body slipped like dry sand through my fingers.

-The tree, let's hide behind the tree, he won't see us there.

After a few minutes and still with my heart jumping, I risked peeking my head over the edge of the tree, but all I could see were my friends laughing and playing in the park. Maye insisted, -Don't see her, she's there, waiting for us to go out, she's there, urgently whispering: there, there!

-I don't see her, where is she, what does she look like?

-She's Yeviny, she has long hair, she's wearing the blue skirt and white uniform shirt, like us, she's pretty but bad, she's my little friend but now she wants me to do bad things.

-But we are in the park, not at school, I don't see any girls in uniform.

Maye peeks her head out again very carefully and tells me: -She's already gone.

At that moment I see my mom walking smiling towards us, I run out to meet her and hug her tightly:

-What are they doing there, why aren't they playing? I don't know why they say they want to come to the park and then they are hiding.

-Maye..., Maye looked at me and finished saying: -We were playing hide and seek.

In the evening I told my mom what had happened that afternoon at the park. I told her that Maye had a little friend who was mean and that she chased us around the park, that's why we were hiding, she reassured me by telling me that she would talk to Maye to find out who that little girl was that was bothering us.

The next morning while my mom was driving us to school I asked Maye who was the girl that had been chasing us. Maye, angry, told me that she was "a watery mouth" and that she didn't have to tell my mom, so we got to school and she didn't say who Yeviny was.

That day at noon, when my mom was serving lunch Maye grabbed her plate and threw the food in the trash, then she grabbed mine and also threw the food in the trash. I didn't dare to say anything, but when my mom realized it, she got very upset and grabbed Maye by the shoulders and shook her and said:

"What's up, girl?
-Well, girl what's the matter with you, why did you throw the food in the trash? Maye didn't say anything, she looked at my mom with her eyes peeled; my mom, even more annoyed, shouted at her:

-Di-me why-why-did-you-throw-you-my-co-mi-da?

Maye, crying, said to her: "It's Yeviny".

Here it is true that my mother exploded. -What Yeviny, or what Yeviny, if there is no Yeviny here? Go to your room and we'll talk later.

That day we didn't have lunch, while my mom and I were cleaning up the kitchen I told her that Yeviny was the girl who had chased us in the park, Maye said that she was her friend and that now she had become a bad girl. My mom, as always, tried to reassure me that she would clear that up with Maye.

The next day when we arrived at school my mom came in with us and went to talk to Maye's teacher, after greeting her she asked her who this girl Jeviny was.

The astonished teacher told her that there was no girl with that name in the classroom, that Maye named her all the time, she said that she played with her a lot and that they went out for walks, she also said that she had always believed that she was Maye's little cousin.

My mom was very sad, while she took me to the classroom she said nothing, at the door before entering, she hugged me, gave me a blessing and a kiss.

That day at lunch my mom was very careful to put the dishes almost at the same time on the table, when we sat down she asked Maye, if Yeviny was in the kitchen with us, she answered yes, mom told her:

-Tell her to let us eat quietly, now later we talk to her.

Maye then, said out loud: -Yeviny, my mom says to let us eat quietly, we'll talk to you later. Immediately, smiling, she spoke again, "Yenivy says yes.

At that time I didn't know what a madman was, if they had explained it to me and asked me I would have said that I lived with two madwomen because I didn't see the bad girl anywhere and they both talked to her.

In the middle of the afternoon, before sitting down to do homework, we went to bed with my mom in her bed, there between games and laughter my mom asked Maye again if Yeviny was in the room.

Maye affirmed with a movement, my mom asked where in the room she was and she put her hand up and placed it behind her head.

  • Is she listening to us talking?

-Yes, and she's crying.

-Why is she crying?

-Because she doesn't want to leave. That's why she was so angry, she scared me and made me do something terrible.

Mom, she's saying goodbye! I don't want her to go! With her I play doll, we play at making and drinking coffee, we paint, we make up stories.

She says I'm getting big, that my imagination is flying to other places. She's hugging me, she has to go and accompany another girl in her games, that I already have more little friends and that this is how it should be. I love her mommy!

-Let her go mommy, as she says, you don't need her anymore, it's time to have your real friends.

Several years have passed, sometimes we remember Jeveny and the scare she gave us. In the midst of disbelief her presence was felt and if it wasn't because we shared it, I would believe it was just part of my imagination.

While I was reading I imagined many things, like a real bad girl, who could be Maye herself or her friend, also a presence from another dimension and it ended up being imagination.
I liked the way the story was told, I ran and got scared with the girls.
