Tenía mucho tiempo que no veía una película nueva del género romántico y este fin de semana buscando en la cartelera neflix 2021 me encontré con “La Última Carta de Amor”.

La película no me decepcionó, una historia de amor, sin dramas exagerados, llena de una gran pasión, con un argumento no muy original, sin embargo, cumple su cometido a través de una narración donde corren paralelamente dos historias en tiempos diferentes, la central, que vamos conociendo con los FlashBack y la segunda, que la protagonista narradora va viviendo mientras reconstruye la primera. Vayamos a la trama.

La trama

Ellie Haworth (Felicity Jones) es una periodista con una vida “patética” en relación con el amor, no quiere compromisos por lo que mantiene sexo ocasional con algún hombre que le guste. Trabaja en un diario y sus artículos giran en torno a la vida particular de las personas al estilo crónica. Le asignan hacer un escrito sobre una anciana exeditora del diario, recientemente fallecida, para lo cual debe buscar información en los archivos.

El archivador y documentalista Rory McCallan (Nabhaan Rizwan) un hombre extremadamente meticuloso, inflexible con las normas y apegado a los procedimientos, se la pone difícil para Ellie pueda acceder a la información, cuando finalmente le proporciona el material que requiere, encuentra, entre estos, una carta de amor. Jennifer, le deja unas cartas a la editora del periódico donde trabajaba Anthony para que trate de hacérselas llegar de algún modo.

Son las cartas que cincuenta años después Ellie, ayudada por Rory, quien se ha interesado en la historia y la periodista, encuentran en los viejos archivos del periódico. Ellie se propone buscar a los protagonistas de la romántica e inconclusa historia de amor.

Gracias a la vida que es así porque, ¡Que cosa tan buena! es sentir esa emoción, llenarse de ese sentimiento,… el solo sentirlo, bien vale vivir.

La última carta de amor, dirigida por Augustine Frizzell, logra definir claramente esos dos momentos temporales, para ello se vale de la moda, un vestuario muy in que todos asociamos a esos años 60 y que inmortalizó Jacqueline Onassis, la música e iluminación en una penumbra que brilla a fuerza de neón, y los objetos puntuales como carros descapotables y hasta un papel tapiz te ponen en un contexto imperdible. Me encantó la escenografía cargada de un fuerte estilo bohemio.

Todo contrasta, simultáneamente, con el mundo actual, donde nuevamente la iluminación juega un papel dominante que dan, a la ciudad y a los espacios, un dinamismo cosmopolita y moderno y ni que decir de las relaciones más informales y menos comprometidas.

Es interesante, como el tiempo va transformando las conceptualizaciones sociales, los paradigmas, por ejemplo: no es que ahora la infidelidad sea bien vista sino que el divorcio es una opción donde la mujer no pierde sus derechos.

La última carta de amor es una historia bien contada que deja algunas lecciones, entre ellas: que cuando no tomamos decisiones en el momento oportuno podemos dejar escapar opciones de vida y segundo, que al amor, cuando llega, siempre hay que brindarle una oportunidad.

I loved the scenery loaded with a strong bohemian style.

The last love letter, is a well-told story that leaves some lessons, among them: that when we do not make decisions at the right time we can miss life options and secondly, that love, when it comes, we must always give it a chance.
